Can Hawthorn succeed while ignoring the elite end of the draft? - Part 2

What best 22 players did North force out of the club in 2020 that are playing senior football? Tarrant knocked back a contract to move to Richmond, Brown knocked back a contract to move to Melbourne.

Daw, Durdin (albeit via MSD) and Wood found homes. Dumont played senior footy for Port this season (2021 list change).

I wonder how Jed Anderson feels getting tossed away to be replaced by Dan Howe.

Graham Wright would be having a chuckle that Clarko still can’t let these guys go.

Nope what?

Your post makes no sense.
Go look at the previous posts on this thread.

Hell before it was shut, go back to part 2 of this thread LoL.

The arrogance if the hawks fans was funny.

But we are Hawthorn, we don't need to finish bottom 4 to get good kids.

Clarkson has never done anything wrong.

Let's sum it up. Hawks got their last flag in 2015. Hawks then went out in straight sets in 2016.

Hawks finished bottom 6 in 2017.

Hawks some how manage to get a top 4 spot in 2018. They didn't dominate the 2018 season. Just like 2016, hawks in 2018 did just enough to get top 4 buy relying on the old farts to grind out just enough wins to get top 4. Good on them.

They then traded picks for players like trading Chad Wingard. Ok rebuild done. LoL

There were many arrogant hawks fans in late 2018.

You had posters on here saying the hawks would peak in 2022.

Hawks are apparently immune to spending 5-6 years in a row not making finals.

Teams rise, teams fall and teams rise again and fall again. Your team is no different mate.

Some teams fans like yours are lucky enough to see flags.

Some teams fans like Freo may not see one in their lifetime.

That's the way the cookie crumbles.

Can anyone enlighten me as to WTF the Hawks were doing in that trade with Sydney ..?!?!??

Barring a miracle I think it’s fair to say best case in 2023 Hawks finish 12th.

So they’ve traded 27, F25 and F43 for pick 18. And F25and F43 in what is touted as a very deep draft.

Sydney played them on a break. I’d be furious as a Hawks supporter. Weddle needs to be a superstar to justify this trade

Ironic given the thread title…and tanking? Hasn’t that been the recommendation for the past 5 years

We have already succeeded
People still venture down Melt City even when the Hawks are wooden spoon contenders. Success creates jealousy.
My thoughts exactly.

Again, some fans like hawks fans are lucky to see a few flags in their life time.

Some fans have not or will not such as dockers fans, sun's fans and GWS fans might not see their 1st AFL flag anytime, if ever

Welcome to 3 years ago. This thread has been redundant since then. It’s when Hawthorn stopped trading away first rounders.

Fact is no supporter base had more right to have faith in their coach and club than Hawk fans in 2017, and as has been raised many times, who knows how the fortunes change if Roughead doesn’t get cancer, Rioli doesn’t retire at 28 and Coniglio sticks to his word and crosses to Hawthorn amongst other things that changed the course of the list.

And yes, we’re still arrogant… and Freo have still achieved nothing. 😊

Can we redefine elite end to be pick 5 or earlier?

Nah. I started this thread and stand by that. There are thousands and thousands and thousands of 18yo footballers in Australia. I’m happy to call the Top 40 (~ first two rounds of the draft) the elite kids. They don’t have to end up stars, but it’s where long term senior AFL players, the core of your team, comes from.

Hawthorn, for whatever reason, thought they could sidestep it completely. It was an interesting experiment but ultimately a complete failure in that it left their list in a hell of a hole. It seemed fraught with danger and in the end, it was.

In any case, they realised this some time ago and went back to drafting.

Still not unhappy they had a go. It worked for Geelong….eventually

Geelong premiers 11 and 22. Hawks need something by 2026 to match that

Where are the hawks on the ladder?

4 years ago at the end of 2018, hawks made top 4 but went out in straight sets.

Clarkson squeezed every drop of blood and sweat and tears out of that ageing Hawks squad

Hawks are in the bottom 4? Why?

Your third line is the answer to your question on the fourth line.

Nope.....

Hawks board are as crazy and deluded as the Russian Federation government under Vladimir Putin LoL

Go back and read the post you decided to bump and see what was written.

I'm too lazy to do that.

Hawks fans predicted that they didn't need early picks to rebuild.

They also predicted they were never gonna bottom out lol

Need to change the thread title to “Can Hawthorn succeed while not being as continuously shizen as North to grab multiple top 3 picks?”

Seems like that’s the argument that North fans want to make in every thread now.
Who's higher on the ladder?

North or hawks?

I wish part one of this thread wasn't shut down because the amount of arrogance and delusional posts that were Putin type posts were funny LoL
