Can Hawthorn succeed while ignoring the elite end of the draft? - Part 2

I'll pose the question to Hawthorn supporters.

Which players currently 21 or under do you think have the potential to become A grade players?
Potential?

Will Day, Finn Maginness, James Worpel, Jack Scrimshaw

Who knows if they will or not but they all have the talent

Depends what you consider “A grade”... but we currently would only have a couple with the “potential”..

Mitch Lewis- suffered few injuries earlier on this season which has affected him. He showed great potential late last season and was our best forward in some big wins.

Jack scrimshaw- in the mould of grant birchall. Was playing great footy for us before getting injured two weeks ago. Unfortunately, he’s body looks like it won’t hold up to the rigours of AFL. Already too injury prone.

Will Day looked really good on Friday night and was one of our three best players on debut.

We will see Finn Macginness over the next few weeks who has big wraps.

Other players 21 and under that have played and will play late this season and next season:

Harry Jones
Oliver Hanrahan
Emerson Jeka
Dylan Moore
Harry Morrison
Connor Nash
Jackson Ross
Matt walker
Jacob Koschitzke
Changkuotu Jiath
Josh Morris

HOWEVER, none of the guys mentioned above are in or will be in the same league as guys like Rozee, rankine, bailey smith, King twins, Walsh just to name a few..hope im wrong, but none of the above have “Star” quality.

Our supporters will throw in worpel, but as I’ve said numerous times on this thread, he will never be an “a grade” player. He’s a nice inside midfielder but has below average skills and is slow. A standard player every club has. He will be a solid 200+ game player.

Hawthorn still haven’t played any of last years bottom six teams yet. The easy part is coming. :$:thumbsu:
No game is easy. The problem is between the ears at the moment

Every club can boast a list of players that have "potential" to be A Grade. Some live up to it some dont, although we do have a few players that seem likely to: Worpel, Scrimshaw, Lewis, Day and Magginess. I'd also throw in Nash as well as he is just a freak athlete.

Nash? Potential to be A-Grade?

Have we entered Clown World?

Thanks.

Fwiw I think Hawthorn are in for years of pain. They just don't have many, if any, potential A graders among there youth that's capable of challenging for premierships given you're going to have some important retirements coming.

I think you've made some trading mistakes that's going to set you back for a while.

Scrimshaw and Worpel look ok but you're taking the piss with Nash. He'll be delisted shortly.

Day looked ok on debut too so there's something to work with there.

What's happened to Jiath? I rated him at under 18 level.

Just my opinion you can have yours. I'm happy for Nash to vindicate me in a few years or I'll own it as a bad call.

Definitely not one that will be shared by many so I expect a few silly comments coming my way 🤪

Another that's in the Nash basket, good athlete fast, good leap. I'm not as bullish on him as I am Nash but he could make an impact at AFL.

Interesting, thanks. Like Geelong, you're going to have to make some tough calls soon and play the kids.

No offense mate, but you're delusional.

Connor Nash an a-grader... Jesus

CJ is ineligible to play as he’s a Category B rookie.

And once the holy trinity, Hawkins, Taylor, etc retire, who are yours? Parfitt?
Feel free to start your own thread and keep on the topic of this one.

Will Scrimshaw actually become a good footballer? I see him touted here as a future A grader. Screams Trent Mackenzie to me. Soft half back flanker

Scrimshaw was second in contested possessions per game and first in contested marks among the half back flankers last year despite playing less then half a season.

Fail.

Might wanna watch him closer. Has been seriously underrated by many since moving across, still young and had a lot of injuries holding him back. Has looked really good every chance he has had and was BOG for the Hawks up until he got injured last week.

He may or may not reach 'A grader' level but he will be at worst a really solid half back flanker.

The real question is, will he ever reach the level of Conor Nash?

Dude the joke was lame the first time and it was lame this time. Nash is terrible and if he develops he may become average.
