His pace compared to others is a possible issue, but I am unsure if he looks slower due to the role he's playing atm (it's difficult to look quick when you have little space to move due to playing in heavy traffic as opposed to playing more on the outside like Smith, or possibly he puts himself in that position and needs to work on that part of his game or simply isn't fast enough to get that space). He's definitely worth persisting with in my opinion. He's one of the better young players at Hawthorn. Him and Teia Miles are my favourite Box Hill players, because they just look so classy compared to everyone else.He does look classy when he gets the ball. His main issue is that he has trouble getting his hands on it enough. That may be his role this year as you say, but his secondary issue that he seems to lack the pace of a lot of outside players (compared to players like Smith) so probably needs to offer more than just being good on the outside to have a long term career.

Stagnating.James Worpel with a lazy 10 coaches votes on the weekend.
Star.
Depends on the team.
Some teams continue to wallow at the bottom.
But look at someone like Brisbane.
Gone from basket case to genuine finals threat in 2 or 3 years, mainly based off top picks and smart gap filling via recruitment.
Actually quite similar to how Hawthorn did it.
As will WingardScully will be a completely different player next year
Who is number one?To be fair 5 of the top 6 posters in the thread are Hawthorn fans![]()
Who are you tipping GE?Big game v a stumbling Geelong this week.
Lose and any chance of finals would be gone but win, well things then change
An intriguing encounter for the Hawthorn Hawks
I’d take a bullet for Hardwick

You’re putting a lot of pressure on Gryan Miers but I agree he is a special talentWho are you tipping GE?
I’m tipping a former Geelong Falcons boy to get his team just over the line
Gryan Miers has been talked up a lot but i just see him as a benefactor of playing in a strong side and getting a lot of opportunities in the front half to impact the play or kick goals. The pro Geelong media look for young players they can rave on about. It might be cynical but i think he's an average player. lets see how wrong i am...You’re putting a lot of pressure on Gryan Miers but I agree he is a special talent
Very rare to hear Clarko singing the praises of a rook but he almost cursed Morrison in the pre-season when he said something along the lines of "having A-Grade potential", as he hasnt looked the same player at senior level.I get the vibe Morrison's inconsistent year is more a product of playing a utility / plug-up role at the moment as his best role is being taken by older, more experienced players (wing, HBF, run-out defender). He's also pretty young at the moment and I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a leap next year if Smith leaves (and he has a better opportunity to play his first-choice role). He's an awesome outside player in the ressies.
Probably explains why he's being given so much responsibility to plug up holes.Very rare to hear Clarko singing the praises of a rook but he almost cursed Morrison in the pre-season when he said something along the lines of "having A-Grade potential", as he hasnt looked the same player at senior level.
Gift and a curse. There was an element of tongue in cheek in my response to threesixpio which is unusual as I’m not prone to levity on these boards.Gryan Miers has been talked up a lot but i just see him as a benefactor of playing in a strong side and getting a lot of opportunities in the front half to impact the play or kick goals. But just on Miers, yes he may not be that special but he is fulfilling a role that team has needed for some time - small forward that kicks goals and creates pressure. Interestingly one of the guys he effectively replaced after Geelong lost patience with his injuries - Lincoln McCarthy - is having a great year with Brisbane.
Miers I think went late 50s national draft so an ok pick up by Geelong
both received priority pick(s)I wonder what the common denominator is there?
You wonder the hole he would leave if he suddenly left.Personally I think Hawthorn will succeed as long as Al Clarko is the coach.
Look at what he's extracted from someone like Ricky Henderson. Delisted at Adelaide to core mid at Hawks. Astounding.
