Can Hawthorn succeed while ignoring the elite end of the draft?

A lot of that stems from the situation for example a higher team poaching a lower teams asset for example T Lynch and Rich. The asset Rich could offer wasnt better than the AFL listed compo so that made sense. Your first pick is better than the AFL listed comp so that would be going to GWS in any potential trade. That would be the starting point for the trade and you would be throwing more than that into the trade IF coniglio chooses Hawthorn. If you think you are signing him without giving away compensation you are delusional
So where is this list? What are you waiting for?

You desperately want a team to match a bid, based on speculation of where he might land, we get it.

Why are you talking about Hill?
Really?

Are you going to tell me you didnt share a rumour from your board where the Hawks had a standing agreement with Freo that Hill would go back without fuss should he want to and that your board that you were a chance of Hill, Whitfield, Congilio and Patton in the one year?

So a rumor got you this triggered, that you’re going to bring it to a completely different thread and melt about it.

Classic Abasi, ignore the whole argument and discussion and pick things that suit you the best. You do you mate

Edit: Not being able to put mods on ignore is irritating

The best some people can do is come on here and make predictions of doom about a team that won 4 flags in a decade and shot for 5 grands finals in a row, and are now rebuilding.

There needs to be a word like "incels" for these types.

Amusing.

Maybe you can provide a list of times where a FA contract has been matched?

It shouldn’t take you long.

Non Hawks fan - " No team has ever built a premiership team without building through the draft".

Hawks fan - "It is a new era of list management. We are doing something new."

Non Hawks fan - "GWS will match the contract to force a trade.

Hawks fan - "That has never happened before."

🤦‍♂️

How did Patrick Dangerfield get to Geelong again?

Man you’re trying way too hard, as usual.

Where did anyone say it has never happened?

I asked a for list of matched bids if it’s something that is definitely going to happen, and got nothing.

You’re literally whining about posts on a club board where posters are free to speculate and hypothesis players joining their club, ignoring the number of posters who are saying “we can’t get all of these players”.

Literally every board has these threads, so quit making out like it’s just Hawks fans.

Dangerfield signed with Adelaide and then they traded him.

I don't think he ever signed with Geelong did he?

The two teams sorted it out before it got to the point of matching.

This (in my opinion) is what will happen if Cogs decides to go to Hawthorn.

And you are shifting the goalposts in a discussion, as usual.
Says the fool who just attributed a bunch of quotes to posters that were never actually said. Give up.

Yep. Eligible RFA but didn't just sign with Geelong. GWS would be looking at the draft picks and potential available players from clubs sniffing around Coniglio.

Who do hawks fans think they are bringing in? Patton seems a lock but conigs seems a 30% chance. Any other names? Serious question

We need an experienced big body forward so our kids can learn. I just dont know that Patton is the one. You would hope the medical staff give him a serious checking over.

As for questions of Coniglio and Whitfield and others, I assume we will go for more than one, expecting to get one.

How? Clarko and Wright.

They seem to do okay at the game.

The whole RFA system is rigged. Any team can just up their contract offer for the first two years if another team tries to outbid them, and then pay them a lower wage from then on.

In Dangerfield's case, I thought it was more about Danger wanting to leave the Crows on good terms, little fuss, rather than the risk Geelong could not match.

Technically didn’t even match. It was an orchestrated trade.

But let’s count it.....so there’s 1.

We could potentially gift them a ruckman like Ceglar and pick 8, whilst also paying overs for Patton to facilitate the trade. So long as there is enough points left for McGuiness all is sweet.

Greater Western Sydney CEO David Matthews said the club wouldn’t hold Coniglio against his will if he requests a trade at the end of the season.

“Matching theoretically makes sense but you would never want it to come to that,” Matthews told the Herald Sun.

“If there are reasons they want to go, you would let them.”

So they and you are ‘delusional’ too. I often find posters using that descriptor fit it better than those they are describing

How do Hawthorn plan on satisfying GWS with trades for Cogs and Whitfield (who I believe they are after as well)

Both are worth two low 1st round picks each with Whitfield probably being worth more than that he is probably the most in form player in the comp
Cogs is a free agent this year, so only salary cap. Whitfield is a free agent next year, so only salary cap.

I'd like to consider myself an optimist but this is pushing the limits, I would expect Giants would force a trade on both players. Even when Dave Mathews said he wouldn't.
