The award-winning British soul singer Amy Winehouse has been arrested overnight in connection with claims that she attacked two men during a boozy night out, reports said.
"A 24-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault after attending a central London police station by appointment. She is currently in custody," a Scotland Yard spokesman said in a statement.
Grammy award-winning Winehouse, who has fought a public battle with alcohol, drugs, self-harm and an eating disorder and was charged with cannabis possession in Norway last year, was not named in line with Scotland Yard policy.
But she was seen by a crowd of photographers and reporters arriving at Holborn police station shortly before 5:10pm (local time).
Her spokesman said earlier that her appearance was in connection with an alleged incident in the north London district of Camden, home to a plethora of bars and clubs, in the early hours of Wednesday.
British newspapers said this week that she allegedly attacked two men, head-butting one and punching the other as she tried to hail a taxi.
Winehouse's husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, is currently on remand in prison awaiting trial on assault and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice charges.
He was brought to court in north-east London earlier on Friday for an administrative hearing. Unlike previous appearances, his wife was not there to provide support.
Winehouse's apparently chaotic lifestyle and drunken and dishevelled appearances in public have caused concern about her health but also criticism from figures including the United Nation's anti-drugs chief.
