Can somebody please post a training report?

I am going through serious withdrawals from lack of hearing the following:

" Player X is 'training the house down'"
"Boy, player X looks absolutely HUGE"
"Player X looks set for a big year"

.... and then of course the inevitable squabbles about whether Player X should be delisted vs. being an important part of the team that every single thread eventually breaks down into.

Seriously though, please post something.

OK, errands took longer than expected and I rocked up in time to see some goal kicking practice which I didn't want to see so left.

Bryce's return ends in pain

New Crow Bryce Campbell had a painful return to Norwood Oval when he rolled his right ankle in the final minutes of training on Wednesday.

Campbell, drafted from Norwood in the 2006 national draft, had nearly completed his first football session for several weeks before going down with the ankle sprain. The Crows are confident there is no further damage.

It has been a tough summer for Campbell, who had shoulder surgery at the end of last season and was restricted to running before Christmas. His times were excellent but he then hurt his back early in the year.

Adelaide is on Thursday expected to name a squad of 28 players for Friday night’s 7.40pm trial game against Norwood. Some other Crows-listed players will line up with the SA Under 18 side against Norwood reserves.

Below is a rundown of the status of various players who have been injured or on modified programs through the pre-season.

Rhett Biglands: His rehabilitation from a knee reconstruction is going well and he started running last Monday.

Brett Burton: Had knee surgery at the end of last season and spent much of the pre-season on a modified program. Rejoined the main training group earlier this month but is probably another couple of weeks away from playing.

Michael Doughty: Had a modified program for most of the pre-season because of some knee soreness but rejoined full training late last month and is ready to play.

Nick Gill: Injured a hamstring tendon at the start of the pre-season and had a couple of setbacks and then strained a calf.

Trent Hentschel: Will have his knee reconstruction this Saturday.

Luke Jericho: Had major shoulder surgery last August. Has been able to run for most of the summer, joined most football drills in recent weeks and should be cleared for competitive work early next month.

Ivan Maric: Had minor shoulder surgery last year and then a hip problem but resumed training earlier this month and should be ready to play in the NAB Cup.

Kris Massie: Fractured his cheekbone on January 8. He has resumed training, wearing a helmet, and should be cleared for full competitive training late next week.

Mark Ricciuto: Had a heavy cold late last month and now has a sore back.

Kurt Tippett: Hurt his neck before Christmas. Is back training with the main group and should soon be cleared to resume competitive work.

Bernie Vince: Had post-season knee surgery and was on a modified program for most of the pre-season. Is now back in full training but will not play this weekend.

Disappointing to hear about Bryce. He badly injured his ankle late last season and missed the last few games because of it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same ankle that’s causing him problems. Ah well, I guess he’ll have to settle for the 2008 Brownlow Medal.

And Gill’s already had hamstring and calf injuries, is he up to it? He can barely go a month without an injury in the SANFL and we expect his body to step up to another level? Talk about unrealistic. We should have taken Westhoff.

And Jericho, “should be cleared for competitive work early next month”. Sounding all too familiar. What a waste of a spot on our list.

And I have no expectations of Ricciuto this year. None.

Drummond, Westhoff isn't ready for AFL action yet whereas Gill could step in. His injury last season started off when big Owen Weatherly landed on him during a game.. that would injure anybody.

Not a great start to the season really.. a lot of injuries.. hopefully we are getting our bad luck out of the way early this time around.

Westhoff is at least 2 years from ever playing AFL football, but in the long run he will be worth the wait. I know they wanted a quick fix but is Gill capable of providing that? I’m skeptical.

Is Bryce Campbell capable of stepping straight in though? I am not sure about that either... only one way to find out though. The fact that we lost Hentschel and Biglands who could have played up forward.. i guess they needed someone who could be ready this year if required and Gill has definitely had top form since he started at North.

No i wouldn't say I'm confident Gill will have a successful AFL career, it is 50/50 at this stage.. he has to make the side first.. injuries could hurt and the step up from SANFL level to AFL could be too difficult. He is much better now than when he was originally on an AFL list according to reports i've read... but he was a defender until Jars told him to have a free reign up forward.

so realistically......

Bryce Campbell - 4 to 6 weeks......wasn't in contention for Round 1 anyway IMO

Rhett Biglands: season

Brett Burton: 2 weeks

Michael Doughty: ok

Nick Gill: indefinite - this is a worry.....wasn't in contention for Round 1 anyway

Trent Hentschel: season

Luke Jericho: cleared for competitive work early next month..... wtf ?.....4 weeks before he can train..... .....wasn't in contention for Round 1 anyway

Ivan Maric: ok

Kris Massie: ok

Mark Ricciuto: another interrupted PS

Kurt Tippett: indefinite - wasn't in contention for Round 1 anyway

Bernie Vince: indefinite

Roo and Gill are the biggest concerns IMO

Roo's only had the sore back, just recently, and a case of the flu over the pre season. His pre season hasn't been that interrupted. I doubt they would've played him this Friday anyway.

the fact that you need to point this out and make it sound like a issue i give a  :thumbsd:
