Can we get a comment from the white-ant brigade?

Disagree. The game against Adelaide was very good and the derby was excellent. The only time we played better last year was in the second derby.

Pies at the MCG
Adelaide in Adelaide
Saints at Subi
Round 6 Derby
Melbourne at Subi.

The Adelaide game & Derby were near to that level.

Like Pavlich said in his re-signing press conference. A lot of things need to change... we can really only have a 'rough' estimate on the face value issues of the club such as team selections, trades and coaches. From those 'face value' issues I would personally change a lot, but there are many more things to consider in the teams success than the coach.

Lashing out has been the standard modus operandi by all and sundry on this board after each dissappointing loss for years.

The thing is the majority of the lashing out has been by the "Sack CC" brigade and they almost exclusively blamed Connolly for those loses.

I' just interested to see who bears the brunt now. They gave the players an easy out before by putting the onus squarely on the coach. Will this continue? I am really curious.

Connolly had 6 years to fix the list deficiencies. He'd thrown away picks for short term options, and we have the slowest midfield in the comp.

I'll white ant for as long as I like so long as this club makes the same mistakes year in year out.

I agree with you, but the club have helped build that attitude. We desperately needed a full back and chased Jonathon Hay. We needed a forward to take the pressure off Pav and recruited Tarrant. We need to bolster our midfield, and I'm sure if Schwab has his way we'd trade for the best available midfielder at seasons end. How about we back in our players for a change and say "okay player X, we're putting our faith in you to hold down FB/CHB/FF/a position in the midfield."
It's funny. I have always thought that was Connolly's downfall. He backed players in long after they deserved it.

Am I right in thinking Dom you used to call for players to get dropped all the time? I'm also interested to know who hasn't been given a decent chance to shine.

I don't call for players to be droppd all the time, only after a loss (and sometimes as many as 22 of them).

It's not that I think that players haven't been given an opportunity to play, but some of them should have been given a bigger challenge and greater responsibility.

I would have liked the club to back in Murphy/Campbell/Drum to hold down a couple of forward spots instead of chasing Tarrant.

I'd like to see Johnson and Mundy given a defensive role on quality opponents, Dodd's best position is as a tagger IMO.

I'd give Schammer and Peake some bigger roles.

One of the things that Connolly needs to be admired for is that he was always clear about putting the clubs best interests ahead of other things, regardless of what posters think of his selections etc. He resigned, and was not sacked, because he would have believed that it was in the best interests of the club. He would have realised it would have been unlikely that his contract would be extended, and that it would give them an opportunity to test drive Harvey. Class.

The questions is, is there a better coach than Connolly available? So far Harvey has been fine, although getting a team to play with passion after a coach has just left is hardly a big deal, it happens often. The players would have been playing more for Connolly than for Harvey. They don't seem to be playing for each other.

Brock O'Brien is a handy defender and may release Dodd to be a tagger...or Brock could be a tagger himself...he has the pace and knows how to get through traffic, from the 1 game I've seen him play. :D

I thought he struggled on Saturday, his brother had 300 possessions though. I'd like to see Dunn groomed as a lock down back pocket over the summer. Played well on Farmer in this years intraclub game.

It was also in Connolly's best interest to step down, the vacancies at Essendon, Carlton and Melbourne could be filled by the first week of the finals.

IMO there are atleast 4 better options currently available.
