This thread may be more important midway through next year but this is without a doubt a very exciting list considering our age (and no we will not be a one year pony like the hawks in 08, we are not perfect but we have alot less holes than they do. All credit to Clarkson for his effort but there list needs alot of tinkering. Now onto our list, we have everything we need right here. Match winners over the ground, the best YOUNG key position backmen in the comp, exciting forward line and a "double midfield" that is rarely beat brewing with young guns that will become stars.
But with all that being said we will be able to fit them all in with enough money to withhold a rampage from GWS?
Swan is out of contract next year could he be another Ablett?
We already know the interest Cloke is getting from Gold Coast however i feel he will most defently stay, but it is the
Sidebottom, Beams, Blair, Dawes, Harry O, Dick, Pendles, Thomas, Wellingham, even Reid and Brown etc the list goes on. All are under 24 and have much more improvement in them as they mature and physically become stronger and will become genuine players. Now i do not know of the contract all these blokes are on but surely some will end next year and with all the money GWS and Gold Coast are aloud to throw out will we be able to satisfy all of these players needs? My general feeling is no. So with all that said we must do smart recruiting, for example do we need Tarrent? I say no all that is gonna do is push Brown back out of the side as we can't play Brown, Reid and Tarrent all at once and Brown has proven to be a player that can hold down a position on a forward that is classed in the games "elite".

Does anyone else feel we are in abit of a sticky situation? You can't claim loyalty on anyone, Ablett has been around the Geelong footy club for 20+years and when push came to shove when the money came he left despite the fact his history is their and won 2 flags with his "mates" there would not of been many more people loyal towards their club than him.

I think something we've done differently to other sides is emphasise that we don't rely on any one player.

I think Mick has done a good job of putting in the players heads "You don't want to be here? F**K off, we don't need you". It's something Geelong did pretty well I think, and part of helped them keep their list pretty much intact.

I don't think we'll have a problem. So many of out players are either:

a) Hard luck story
b) Been given multiple chances (Didak, Swan, Shaw, Johnson, Wellingham etc)
c) Others are on big dollars now anyway

So I don't think we'll have TOO much defection over the next few years.

And it would only become an issue if we win another flag anyway. Not just one.
