No, this current patch of bad form will cost Blues a spot in the top 4.

No side can afford to drop so many games in a short period and expect to stay in the top 4.

Season 2012 will be remembered as one where the blues underachieved

Change the title to "Can we make the top 8?" and might be a more valid discussion.

I hate being defeatist or negative but I had great doubts as to whether we can make the final 8 as back at the St. Kilda game and I haven't seen anything in the interim to make me think otherwise.

Blues are gone for top 4, based on our draw over the next month, we will be outside the 8, a total review will be required to understand the direction this team is heading, as it has become very clear that CHANGE is required.

This year was the first year of our "premiership window". Now that we won't finish top four then the chance to win the flag is over. Hence, the season is over. The start of the season proved that our best 22 is good enough to contend for a flag but no Henderson, Duigan, Liadler, Waite, Murphy and Carrazzo has created too many holes in the side. Too many players are down on form. Even though Kreuzer was out with injury his form didn't warrant a game, Curnow has not had the consistency he had last year, Garlett goes missing far too often, Hampson fluctuates too much, and none of the fringe players are taking there opportunities (I am not counting any performances against Melbourne). This has nothing to do with us being able to make top four but i am sick of seeing Joseph get a game. He hasn't offered anything since his "breakout" season as a run-with player.

Re: Can we make the top eight?

A season that promised so much is delivering so little. Hopefully in the process more deadwood is cut from the list starting with Joseph, Kerr and Bower.
A key forward would be nice.

Of course you can...FFS this year is very open.

I predict a rebound next week and steady build toward deep finals action.

Chin up you have a few coming back also.

I think you guys might make it at our expense (opposite to what happened last year). I'm nervous about the match on thursday week....

Taking the p1$$... and no he doesn't do enough to be a star!!

Dude I can understand your hurting but I'm not taking the pi$$.

Don't worry the hawks have had their ups and downs this year also...

Jesus look at the scum getting rolled..

its open FFS

If we can get back Yarran, Duigan, Waite & Henderson and manage to scrape out two wins against Port Adelaide & Geelong before the bye whilst being without without Laidler, Carrazzo, Murphy & Davies we might have a hope.
Unfortunately all the emergency talls we drafted are also injured in Casboult, Mitchell, Rowe & White.
So for us to make the four we need most of the above players in the team.
If we don't get most of these back we may struggle to make the 8.
Injuries to most teams these days is the key to being a very good team as against mediocre team.:(

I hate to say I'm right, but it certainly looks like we have lost our mo jo and with the above players missing it doesn't look like we are going to get it back anytime soon.
Although we only had it on one night against Collingwood and i still think they just had a night off.
We got Yarran back tonight but lost Kruezer.
Also, I think Robinson looks quite sore and stiff to me.
We are running out of players and players like Bower are not helping. Even Juddie & simpson are out of touch.
In general we have been in a slump for some weeks and I don't know what will be the catalyst to get us back playing quick "instinctive" footy again.
I think Ratt's has just got to free them up like Essendon & Richmond have been freed up to just run and kick it long towards goal. We too often come through the CHF area on the run and try to short pass it. What's wrong with having a shot more often.:mad::(:thumbsd:

Get ****ed.

At this rate you'll beat us by triple figures and you won't have to turn up.

Top 4 shouldn't be mentioned for the rest of the season. We're no hope of making it.

Forget the 4, right now we're in a dog fight to make the 8, and we're far from certainties.

We are in a dark place right now and we're the only ones that can turn that around. The worst thing about the whole lot? I've seen nothing to suggest that we actually want to.

no clearances no win...........
Wont get clearances with the blokes we have been required to use over the past few weeks, most are just very ordinary footballers with ordinary skills as well as soft as butter!

Dont worry about stats, worry about personnel to get the job done.

I blame the media and the bookmakers for our poor form!
Ever since we beat Collingwood and became "Premership favorites" which was after beating a slow starting Richmond and a poor performing Brisbane, we became the flavour of the month.
I didn't ask for that, nor did I think we deserved that tag.
Dam you media and public....Next time we thrash Collingwood...keep a lid on it!!!!

I hope the players don't hold a similar view because that's nothing more than a cop out.

Good teams perform on the field regardless of what's written of them off it.

The players, and to a lesser extent, the coaches are at fault here. Trying to place the blame on any other group is ridiculous and completely off the mark.

Injuries are part of the problem but in the end it shouldn't matter. We lost to Port and Crows and we didnt go down swinging...thats the problem.

This team doesnt have the mental toughness to win a flag...simple as that. A team like Collingwood does...unfortunately. Our season is in the next 4 games (all against the top 4 teams from last year). I doubt we'll go 1-3.

Top 4? No chance. I agree with most posters, top 8 is what we are fighting for now.

So you are blaming the media and supporters for how the players and coaches have performed on the field ? Really?
