Not sure why not being able to win in India is particularly notable for a weak Australian side. Steve Waugh's side couldn't do it.

Australia has always been able to boast at the very least, a capable spin attack in modern times which obviously helps over there. India hasn’t always had much of a pace attack which has stifled them here. Therein has been the general difference.
