Carlton Considers Bypassing PSD

"If" there is nothing of interest, how about we do something from left field like take a kid in the PSD, ie. Betts (now there is a thought) and still have pick2 in the rookie draft for another kid so in-effect we get the next 2 of 3 best kids available and use Jamison as our nominated rookie. If the draft is as shallow as indicated why not capitalise on the top kids this way?

What's Mitch Hahn's injury situation. I thought the last time I saw him play he broke down - came off with an injury in a game towards the end of the season. Am I dreaming this or what? Was it just a niggle or something more serious. He looked pretty shattered sitting there on the bench.

If the draft is shallow, any kid taken in the PSD have been passed over in the draft so their chances are diminished immediately. Sure some make it but considering the amount of rookies and PSD kids taken compared to success, it is very much a shot in the dark.

Not a bad option considering there is only junk around!!

Promote Jamison and add 2 nominated Rookies!!

Thoughts???

we would be better off keeping jammo as a nominated rookie and picking up a kid in the draft (ie round 5 pick) rather than promote jammo and pick up a rookie.

rookie picks are just round 6,7,8 and 9 picks of the national draft with only a minimum 1 year committment and less pay.

Ok I did some research. Hurt his shoulder that night but should be 100% fit by now. I was worried it was his knee again. I'd take him in the PSD for nothing on the minimum performance based contract. Good depth player, just as big Red would be too on the same conditions. You need to have good quality experience on your list for depth and to help out the kids in the VFL. Not sure how much of a 'teacher' Teague will be down there.

Okay, can someone clear this up for me please. What is a 'nominated rookie'? Does that still mean if they are a nominated rookie they can't play until we promote them for a LTI?

I don't get it...

if we have no player on the veterans list we can list a player as a nominated rookie

which means they are listed as a rookie but can play all 22 games of the season even if we have no one on the longterm injury list

Jamison will likely be a nominated rookie (as we no longer have any veterans). He can play in the seniors at any time without being promoted, but is still technicaly a rookie.

I still think we've got a card up our sleeve and we will sign another player once Richmond commit to taking a player at one.

I've got a feeling something is afoot. Having the club act coy and suggest it might bypass the PSD makes stronger my suspicions that Swann is trying manipulate the situation as he does so well.

Uncontracted Josh Fraser has just left the country for a holiday and can't be contacted. Magpies say they aren't concerned, it's just another player on another holiday.

Now maybe it's nothing, but considering what's gone down at the Blues this year, it is plausible that his defection is being handled covertly so as to allow the Tigers to snare someone else, thinking they've got the best man, and the minute they do, Josh will declare his intention to switch to the Blues.

Seems a bit far fetched I know, but I reckon Swann would have a sneaky maneuver like that written somewhere in the back of his play book
.

The rules are here.

Carlton Football Club Team List and Contract Status

Each club can have two veterans OR nominated rookies OR a combination.

Last year we had Kouta (vet) and Jackson (NR).

The nominated rookie can play at any time, and only half his salary is counted towards the TPP.

The nominated rookie must come from your rookie list.
I.e. a second year rookie can be put up as a nominated rookie.
Jamison and Jacobs are eligible.
Aisake (3yrs) and Jackson (2yrs) have spent their full quota on the rookie list and must be elevated to the senior list or delisted.

Hmmm I'd laugh so hard if we got him....Imagine the uproar on the main boards

I'm no Fraser fan but I would be happy if this happened because:

a) it would most likely mean we take Cotchin with pick 1
b) comic value

Hahn would be good for strength through half back and midfield but he is a risk, just coming off a knee reco (came back mid season 2007) and it always takes 1-2 years to fully recover, and his shoulders obviously aren't the best....is that a risk when we could just pick a young kid, pay them peanuts and see how they go, our best 22 is pretty much done so take a punt on a kid!!!
Although pissing Collingwood off once again would be great....
- 1970
- Stevens
- Swann
- Judd
- and add Fraser

They better not bypass the PSD!! There are good enough players out there that would be good for our club. Bypassing the PSD when we hold pick 2 is stupid.

This is no doubt mentioned elsewhere but Tenace and Bolton have re-signed. I think maybe Hahn, although he lacks pace, could become a good tagger and hard body for us. But i'm not hellbent on him.

Have you noticed the extent to which players try to avoid the Tiges. The Players Miller was after - Judd (Judd despises Richmond and Miller), King (got the Cats to trade him with 90 to avoid the Tiges), Blake (decided to re-sign), Jolly (decided to re-sign), Hooper (decided to re-sign), Wood (to the Pies, even though Tiges had the picks). And now Brennan has publically said he wants to go to the Dons if he ends up in the PSD. The Richmond Football Club is viewed as a career death sentence, that very few can escape from. :)

Such a great post parrot.:thumbsu:

ODN, you're right but there can be gems (like Betts or Davey) who clubs overlooked because they didn't want to commit for 2 years or they weren't convinced they had the "head" to go with their talent.

Once the ND is passed remember there's plenty of weeks to assess and screen in detail the best talent from the remaining pool, get some to train with us, and maybe, hopefully, grab good pick ups with pick 2 of the PSD (if we don't get a recycle), and pick 2 of RD, with our increased intelligence on the potentials.

With both picks there's the attraction of no two year commitment.
