Another go at penning a Carlton article without a great deal of substance yet veritable torrents of innuendo and shade throwing.

The first half read as a bitter debrief of her interview with SOS, as she went over the best hits of what she disagreed with him about still. The rest, funnily enough, is probably fair enough; we have a lot to do in the next twelve months, getting in someone to be chief of football and ensuring that the football department has the right people.

I don't know what people expected from her, though. She wasn't going to, all of a sudden, decide that she was completely wrong and apologise via her column and start campaigning for SOS's prime ministership.

I'm not necessarily disagreeing but why does she have a personal vendetta against us? or are you just guessing? [edit- just read your previous post so please disregard the question]. I just listened to the interview between Mark Lo and Dwayne on 3AW and it was appalling and unprofessional. He was obviously antagonising Mark, in an attempt to get a headline. I would have no hesitation in drawing a red line through any future media commitments with him, and releasing that publicly. I would even encourage other clubs to make a stand against such behaviour. It'd be hard to pay the bills if these reporters can't get a story anymore because people made a stand. I'm not surprised that Caro sniped Mark's willingness to appear on 3AW, and then they do that to him. It really seems obvious now, as to why people would refuse interviews.

I know the media have a role to play but it doesn't give them carte blanche to act in this manner. It's obviously been a difficult period, but they would have been satisfied with nothing short of burning him at the stake.

Pretty much says it all here:

The response from Caro was predictable. She would always want the last word.

Her carry on about both Trigg & Lethlean suggests she had close links with them & is probably too invested to objectively comment on what went down. She fails to note that Lethlean was not considered for the CEO positions at Hawthorn or Collingwood as well & was overlooked for the head of footy position at Essendope.

I was pleased that she acknowledged Jenkins' role in the appointment of Liddle as CEO. This certainly makes the 'rumour' suggesting Jenkins' quit the club's board due to her dissatisfaction with Liddle's selection over Lethlean look like the absolute bunkum that it is. I have been contemplating why someone would spread such a false rumour & I can only conclude it is an attempt to destabilise our club at a time when it is vulnerable due to the poor onfield year we have experienced. Fortunately we know that the Board, CEO, List Manager & Coach are all on the same page in relation to the rebuild so those who seek to destabilise the club are wasting their time.

When you have Caro writing articles like this latest one, dragging up some ancient history, you know we are heading in the right direction.

I like her. She's mostly bold and has at least in previous times, has done her homework.

Maybe she is starting to slip now and needing 'highlights' to remain relevant, but she has had her moments over time.
Always quite enjoyed her writing style, even though she would tend to over hype the negative in everything. I may have missed it, but I don't remember too many positive articles coming from her.

Umm why did my previous post in here get deleted?

I agree, Harks. I think the balancing act for them has to be their willingness to ask the big questions, without turning it into a witch hunt. Wouldn't it be professional to remain neutral and report something for all stakeholders? I actually felt sorry for SOS, and was pleased to see that Juddy jumped in when he had the chance. When I realised that SOS needed to be defended, I realised just how hostile the interviewers were, and how determined they were to turn it all into the spectacle it became.

Does anyone know what the 'conflicts in footy' comment was in regard to? When SOS said it, you could just tell by his tone that it was meant to be a dig. Then I noticed Lloyds face and you could see he was fuming. What was his reply, "You might have some too!". SOS saved it right to the end as well, so there couldn't be any retaliation.

Lloyd's brother working at freo?

Generally enjoy Caro in the media but this is just gutless. She would have known they wanted SOS on the show on Monday so why not write this last weekend so SOS could eyeball her and have right of reply.

The thing with journalists is they are the like the leader of the Opposition. They don't do anything that they have to be accountable for. I'd like to see Caro come out and say how she would have handled the list.

As they the old saying goes - "those who can do, those who can't ....write about it !!"

They said it during the interview. Mathews brother Brad is the Freo list manager.

See, I think it's more in relation to the fact that one of the questions they - and others - have asked about SOS's role in getting first Jack and now Ben to the club. They seem to think he's done something untoward; he's maintained that he stepped out of the room, and allowed others to handle that aspect of list management.

Those in the media are perfectly happy to question the bias in others, but react as Lloyd did when confronted with their own potential conflicts of interest.

I'm rather happy that SOS pointed it out in that interview/interrogation hybrid thing they had going on there. It's been long deserved, and especially do for someone to do so on that particular show.

Yeah, I caught that but I'm naïve. I don't understand how that is a conflict, or conflict of interest. Does Lloyd have an official position with a footy club? and even if he did, who cares if his brother is a list manager with Freo? The Scott brothers are both senior coaches for opposing teams and no-one says anything about it. Many brothers play for different clubs too. Big H says HI! There was more to it than that. Look at his (Lloyds) face again. Just wondered if there was some common knowledge that I didn't know about because I'm isolated from footy news here in NSW.

I'm not so sure. I remember that this was discussed after his appointment when the media asked about Jack being in his draft year. SOS mentioned that they had discussed it during his interviews and induction, and that they had agreed that he would not be a part of that decision making process. So I would have thought that was all old news.

Old news doesn't mean it didn't rankle at the time, nor does it mean that it wasn't taken personally.

I mean, SOS took 12 months to stew on having a go at Caro over the Trigg article. I hold grudges, and I'd certainly hold onto a grudge that long.

Think it was more to do with Lloyd not asking the same questions of his brother when they were struggling.

mmm Wonder why all the angst by Caro and others re the sacking of Trigg? I mean in the end he was virtually a part timer. She supported him strongly after his Tippett related suspension

Or was she angry that Lethlean wasn't appointed. Surely its not the first time football clubs have lied to her?

I would love to have Media Watch/Four Corners undertake a forensic investigations of the journos like Caro and robbo - me thinks you may find some very ugly skeletons in their closets.

I suspect it might have more to do with Jenkins.

Could be wrong though.

Call me old school but I always preferred a newspaper to online articles.

Cos I refuse to wipe my arse with my computer / tablet / mobile.

Thank you. That makes perfect sense regarding SOS's suggestion that they should get Lloyd's brother on. I'm still not quite sure if that relates to the 'conflicts in footy' comment but it makes more sense now than it did before.

Caro is seriously losing her marbles.

Her and Lloyd started a gunfight on Monday and got blasted away. She ended up looking like a complete dick.

She's spent the rest of the week trying to justify her pathetic efforts (while SOS can't defend himself) - and looks more and more stupid as the days go by.

Why didn't Caro come out in support of Lethlean when he was exposed, so to speak, for his behaviour at AFL house, instead of adding to the calls for him to be sacked?

If she did not support him at the time, why is she so adamant we need to explain why we don't want him at our club?

if we had found him to be a suitable candidate, could almost write the scathing article about jobs for boys, stuck in our old ways, another poor appointment etc.

Caro starting to resemble a certain politician with her ability to make bad calls, backflip and pretend the issue is something else.

note to self, always resolve conflicting issues in gatorade's favour..........

Caro reminds me of the adage:

What's the best thing to do when you've landed yourself in really deep shit?

Stop digging.
Thats how i see it too - she (and FC) got owned earlier in the week by SOS.

This article reeks of desperation to save face - wouldnt even require a response of any sort from the club. I would expect anyone in the football community would see it for what it is all about.
