Carlton to try out Debutants.

Just out of curiosity what are people basing their assessments of Garlett's finishing skills on??

I know his debut wasn't the best, but from what I have seen at training and the WAFL games last year he is skilled off both feet.
His form in the AFL. :)

Garlett's miss from point blank range against the Cats was a poor kick.

Yarran drilled it from 50 near the boundary line and has a stronger leg than Garlett who is a twig.

Garlett gets to more contests because he has a better motor than Yarran ATM.

I'd have Yarran taking the shot after the siren from 50.

Why would we play Garlett over Yarran?

I'm not sold on Garlett's size or ball skills.

Garlett does add an extra dimension to our forward line, and I suspect his kicking will improve once he picks up the pace of AFL footy. He's just too talented not to have pretty silky skills.

I do agree with you about his size though, and does need to spend some time in the gym, otherwise the opposition will just throw him around like a rag doll.

Wow, lets all attack one of our own for asking a question, talk about Mob Mentality.
Anyway, bring on thursday cant wait to see the boys in some real action, hopefully pumping ninethmond and having fun with there troll supporters.

Yarran looks like he may be eased into the season on the back of these comments from Bomber Riley:

Chris is getting fitter, but it is a long way from Swan Districts fitness to AFL fitness. He's got exquisite skills, but he just needs to work at adapting to the intensity of both training and matches. He's still young and we'll give him plenty of time, but he will add a real exciting dimension to our forward line.

I also find it interesting that Ratts says Scotto is likely to play while Walker seems less likely when Walker has had much more of a pre-season than Scotto.

Yes I noticed that too, perhaps reading between the lines, is that whilst Scotland has less prep and probably less fitness, his injuries were getting over an op and as such is now more robust, whereas Walker may still be seen as fragile. I hope this isnt the case, of all the players this year I was looking forward to Walker and Hoops really hurting opposition teams with their inside 50 delivery.

Really looking forward to Hoops his delivery is Brilliant.

Official Garlett to be promoted. Ratts 3AW right now. :thumbsu:

Great news. :thumbsu: I worry he is not quite ready, but he has shown the right signs and I am only not sure because I lack the evidence that I am sure the MC has in order to elevate him.

If Gartlett gets the gig this week my instructions to him would be that he try to play no more than 20meters away from Fev. His job should be to crumb from the contests that Fev spills IMO. We need a few nippy types roving the packs, one front and centre, one over the back. Him and Eddie or him and Yarren if Eddie moves into a midfield rotation.

I reckon our scoring per 50 enter should go up considerably as our midfield starts to control more games and we have much better quality delivery. Gartlett roving what Fev or Cloke dont grab and Yarran providing another quality option on the lead and also making it harder for teams to crowd Fev out.

I cant wait!!!!:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

I love this kids, he is going to be a burst player for us. Until he can put some weight on, but not too much mind you. :thumbsu:

30Yr, his name is listed on the CFC site as Garlett but you usually have a good handle on these things. Someone confirm the truth? I can handle it. Point is, the kids on the list now (nominated?) Grouse. :thumbsu:

I little off subject but i would like to play a song that will be played 25 times this year

We are the navy blues
We are the old dark navy blues
We're the team that never lets you down
We're the only team old Carlton knows

With all the champions
They like to send up
We'll keep our ends up
And they will know that they've been playing
Against the famous old dark Blues

No Its Garlett, and we also have a Hartlett. Definately my mistake. The excitement of our forward potency got the better of me. Sorry.

Good news T, had a feeling this was going to happen before Wednesday ;)

You dig it the most, A. Now either get back to your media site trawling or get a life. :thumbsu:

Not sure that Garlett has the polish to be a pure crumber just yet.

Personally I'd rather Betts, Hoops, Murph etc. coming in to pick up crumbs from the marking forwards.

Garlett is there for his defensive pressure and I'd like him to focus on winning his own ball, especially when the opposition are already running it out of there, he already excells at this particular skill at the highest level :thumbsu:

Could be just a matter of adapting to the extra pace and pressure of AFL

Haven't been at all impressed with his footskills thus far - for goal and around the ground. Not sure about his shorter stuff, but seems to lack penetration in his kicks, which isn't really surprising looking at his build.

His disposal efficiency has been at or around 33% in all recorded games - hardly impressive numbers.

Yeah that's 3 NAB cup games and his first taste at AFL level...he aint ever going to have the best penetration on his kicking, but he's kicked sausages from outside 50 in the WAFL last year... dangers of making an assessment with an N=3
