No need to shout.

I think the message got through that there was an issue - ten weeks ago, Im pretty sure everyone has finally worked that out.

Now its about finding some honesty, common ground, and a platform to rebuild from.

Ten weeks ago people refused to even accept there was any issue - admittedly some see things more clearly than others.

The next issue is going to be about the coach, and then board - give it a few weeks. It's going to happen. The media will get wind of it and then its back to where we were five years ago.

this was another pathetic display

but yet again, got to love all the thornton haters
not sure if they realize he wasnt playing tonight hahaha
bring him back to the effing team. three ruckmen aint working. hampson is not a forward and a third ruckman. kreuzer is injured. robert warnock is slower than sandilands.
waite is not done and dusted, there are a lot more injury prone players in the afl.
yarran is not going to be traded.
blood some new people.
this is ridiculous. 7 OUT OF 10 GAMES. IS THIS EFFING 2005 AGAIN OR WHAT

We are in so much trouble.

No, really, we are, I think its time we admitted it as a group..

We are. We are. We are.
How much diff will a new coach make - the right one will but how many of our players are going to still not be up to it?
We will at the very least have to find him a keyforward to replace Waite (have not been able to rely on him for a long time now)
Are we prepared to be patient and not see Juddy's time clock as our window?
If not we definitely have to get a proven coach and trade fiercely. Remembering that you have to give something to get something. We have some first rounders who are never going to be match winners in a GF. Personally I would be interested in what we could get fork Gibbs or Yarran
With some of our back up keyforwards for next year like Rowe and Levi big enough to do a Roughead, we definitely do not have to keep 3 rucks

At the same time I hope we go back to basics in selection for the rest of the season. It is good to blood kids when they are ready but we have to know the answer about JR for eg. I think he could be almost as good as Gibbsy for us as a HBF and so with him finding a little form last week and the posn we are in now - let's just settle him in there for the rest of the season (we are not going to get much for him and I don't want him going off and being a every gamer for some one else) Collins should have and should be in the team for the rest of the year. Sheez the way Clarkson has got some of his average backmen going I am even afraid Bower will go somewhere else and become a regular

Hard to rant when you feel this flat

Hawthorn's midfield was so cool and clean (and with a forward line to kick to) that I feel disheartened

Scotty is older than Juddy, another shocker from Walks (I don't care how many possies he had) but maybe a new coach might make him a good 3rd forward again

Its just all so sad - we were on an upward trajectory - and this isn't a blip - its ten games in a row - melbourne, GWS simply DO NOT COUNT. Ten games in a row.

Kernahan told the faithful that we need to stick by Ratten before the game -
http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/ca...ach-brett-ratten/story-fnelctok-1226412721936

Clearly this needed to be said, or he wouldn't have said it. What does that mean ? You don't deliver a speech about sticking by your coach if your going to stick by your coach.

But facts are we wont make the 8 now -
http://www.news.com.au/sport/afl/ha...ances-at-making-the-top-eight/story-fnelctok-

not my words. But jesus - Ratten - what the hell mate ? Seriously we love you champ - but, whoah, thats a pretty big pill we have to swallow - or is it.

The rumours are that that recruiters cant recruit, coaches cant coach, players cant play :-> who they want to recruit, how they want to coach and how they want to play - because someone is a control freak.

Rumours, only rumours......

Cue conspiracy theory.

Granted. By official sources.

Eddie Betts misses a simple set shot from 30 metres to make it a 20 point game in the 3rd qtr, Hawks kick 2 goal within about 4 minutes make it a 40 point game. Game over!!
Not saying we would have won but score board pressure does funny things to football teams

That's what happens when you get Ross Lyin as a coach and he plays his favorites over much better players. Sadly its an affinity our coach shares and a part of the reason why he's going to be out the door.

Malthouse did this too and it frustrated the hell out of me and alot of collingwood supporters.Leon davis was one and Harry o brien another.i love harry but sometimes he was woeful. leon didnt like big games.

The only reason we won 2010 is because in the last grand final he put his foot down after the draw and didnt play favourites.

Positives
-Loved Judds game.
-Joseph did well on rioli.
-Watson was great, and i loved him taking kick ins.

Negatives
-Watching a string of 4 or 5 carlton players bust their gut to get the ball to garlett, whos running into an open goal, just to see him miss...how many times can this happen before those 4 or 5 players think whats the point? Young Dale clearly deserves an opportunity.
-If ratten was at the VFL game he wasnt watching...Bootsma has a great kick but watching him get pushed of the ball like a 6 year old is sad...Mcinnes had an awesome game, has much more size and strength and never would have lost that contest.
-Russell also had a great VFL game and I dont understand why he cant play Gibbs' role so he can push into the midfield....it is such a waste of a #1 pick.

I blame the carbon tax.

Boat People - what ever they are.

Fantastic post - seriously spot on.

Bootsma does try though.

And yes - Ratts was definitely at the reserves match - was wearing a rather large polo necked grey woolly jumper from Sports Girl - not kidding.

This just goes to show how clueless Brett Ratten is (lifted from the carltonfc.com.au)

Carlton coach Brett Ratten said that despite the disappointment of such a heavy loss, he could see some indications the Blues were nearing a return to form.

"It might take another week, it might take two weeks," Ratten said after the game.

"I don't know when it's coming, but there has been signs to show in the last three weeks that we can do some good things in games, but our inconsistency in the games is really hurting us."

Enough is enough! The buck stops with Ratten! Thanks for the 5 years of coaching it's time the club and coach part way so we can bring someone in who at least has the ability to bring out the best in our players.

You should read this then mate

"Those things are frustrating and I thought early doors we conceded some easy goals when it was just kicked in to two on three, we just sagged and dropped off our opponents and allowed them access. That probably opened up a bit of a gap (on the scoreboard) which gave them some confidence to do what they wanted.''

What the ACTUAL LIVING HELL RATTEN ?

That PROBABLY opened up a BIT of a GAP

No, false, rephrase - that KILLED US, IT KILLS US EVERY WEEK, WE HAVE BEEN DOING THE SAME THING FOR FIVE YEARS, AND THEY PUT ON 7 GOALS IN ONE QUARTER.

As much as I like Ratten, I can not handle the way he dismisses the issues.

Most of what I feel has been mentioned by others throughout thus thread. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet, that really shit me tonight was our setup at stoppages close to goal. Twice in the first quarter and a half hawthorn kicked quick goals from boundary throw ins next to their behind posts. Both times they were with dribble kicks that rolled across the line.

How can 22 professional footballers and a coaching panel not realise that someone needs to be on the goal line in this situation. At least once (maybe twice) in our forward 50 we got quick low kicks from a stoppage and both times hawthorn had someone on the line ready for them. Just makes us look like amatuer hour.

i have noticed this and it is disgraceful - it happens at least a couple of times a week.

That was just pathetic. Watching every week waiting for us to turn the corner but I just cannot see it happening anytime soon. Enough of the excuses...we need to action. At least make it look like the club is trying to turn their current position around.

Last 2 and a half months have undone the last 2 and a half years worth of hard work.
Nothing else to say really.

Not sure why the gameday thead was locked...unecessary IMO.

The so obvious it doesn't really merit comment take on tonight was the amount of uncontested ball we allowed Hawthorn forward of centre. Their inside 50's were essentially a choose your own adventure, whereas ours were the painfully familiar bombs to the pocket.

High hopes for Boots but he often finds himself flat footed and ball watching in no mans land just off the pack...plenty of time and all, but this is one fault that has stood out in each of his handful of appearances.
games is over. game day thread is over. It is the usual practice. But re-read for some pearler comments by complete idiots

replay watching-1st half done
won toss-work carrots
great 1st goal D Ellard
Army head high delivered in 1st half-pure acting by Hawks
Army's goal - skill general
Ellard et al puttin body on line in marking contests and tackles but no support and ball drops out or is passed away to a free hawk because nobody is working away from the ball
Bootsma - hands in the back is obsolete
Gibbs- laying boots into him and did a nice pass to simmo. Being used to save a game but just will not win us the game. That is the waste
Somebody had a crack at M Gale. At least she supports CFC every week unlike many here
Good goal by Yaz

Don't know where anyone get the impression they're not trying. We're in a rut that we won't get out of this year, but it's not game over for a rebuild like the idiots on the main board believe. The club just needs a similar change that Essendon, Geelong and Adelaide have gone through in the last twelve months. We won't drop off like some expect with their belief that it's a return to the dark days. Don't care if I get howled by the usual suspects who enjoy a loss more than a win.

Hawthorn's clash jumper is the worst in the AFL. It looks like the Hawk is about to take a dump.

Watson is two seasons younger than Schoenmakers, yet showed more poise, intensity, skill and awareness. Lucky to be playing on a ruck in Hampson.

Rioli is a bigger tease than Garlett.

If we plan on sticking with Ratts in 2013 he needs to be given that directive sooner rather than later. The season is shot and we need to plan for next season.
  • Offer Warnock up for trade at years end, he's a good tap ruckman but that's it really.
  • We may as well get Kreuzer and Jamo's body right for next year. This enables us to play Hampson in the ruck where he should be played.
  • Play Collins, Lucas, Dale, Bower, Kerr and Davies when back from injury to see which are worth hanging on to. (not all at once obviously)
  • McCarthy and Mitchell should be given opportunities in the seniors, the reserves are a rabble and to be honest can't be any worse than our current plan of "bomb it long to Hampson"
  • It's supposedly a bumper draft so we should make as much list space as we can and upgrade our picks if possible.
Basically everything has gone wrong for us this season but, we have a great core group. With the right planning and structure we can bounce right back next season.

we did beat the Pies-just a minor point
