Hoping for a maximum of four list changes next season.

One trade and three recruits through the national draft.

Time to settle the list down.

Although happy with trading period picks, i am slightly concerned we are seemingly only going into this strong draft with only 2 live picks (obviously Ben Silvagni will be chosen as a F/S pick)

Obviously SOS and the recruiting staff felt the need to bring mature/bigger bodies and experienced players to the club (and i agree) but i just wish we could pluck another 2nd and 3rd rounder from somewhere with live trading on draft night.

Then again, injuries notwithstanding, we are fairly close to having a best 22 core that will be part of our next flag tilt, although i still have concerns about the ruck, long term. (Although i like the idea of Harry pinch hitting there, if and when the occasion arises)

The strength of the draft is mainly in the top end, so the first 7 picks is where you really want to position yourself. Hence GCS will not be dumping any of their top end picks.

Well wouldn't you know it, the Cats have already been trying to get their claws into Geelong boy Walsh.

No doubt "goodbloke" Danger would have been in Sam's ear about getting back down to Geelong as soon as he can - just like he did - so they can be team-mates, etc.

**** off Cats, he's our's!!!

In Sam's video, he specifically mentions Carlton (as his most likely destination) and sounds very positive about joining us. I hope he does - and stays!

Got to say that interview with Lukosius leaves me less than enthralled. Bit wishy washy. Then I look down and that pic of Walsh in full flight has me excited. Surely that photo has the words 'engine room' embossed in invisible ink.

Agree, I find it hard to see how Lukosius will really kick on in the AFL. In his highlights and even in his draft interview he was talking about how he uses his running endurance to burn off opponents and take marks. In the big league he will need to be able to cope with much quicker and seasoned defenders, double-teaming, zoning, much more pressure across the board. He has a few tricks don't get me wrong but I think he will be found out a bit like Schache. Needs to be able to hit contests hard and take contested marks/pack marks.

Did not really have amazing U18 stats either as he should have been kicking bags of goals in a dominant SA team or even at club level where he played alongside Rankine and they won the grand final IIRC.

He is nothing like Schache or Watts, Patton, Boyd

Lukosius's tank is of one of an elite midfielder. Not too many tall defenders will be able to sustain his workrate, so he will find space all over the ground, especially with zones being prevalent

Yes his floor could be a Westoff, but that is still a 250 game player.

Maybe you're right but IIRC Schache also had/has a good tank and absolutely dominated his U18 carnival taking marks out on the lead. Patton would be a very good forward too if he didn't do his ACL 2 or 3 times.
I just don't see the aggression needed to be a good KPF at the top level like a JK, Cameron, Buddy, Walker, Dixon, Hogan. In saying that I'm sure he will be at the very least a serviceable AFL player.
