What in your opinion would be the deal to get us the picks in that range.
I've outlined a series of hypothetical delistings and deals after trading down from pick 1 to ultimately wind up selecting at (before you factor in how bids affect pick numbers) 3, 5, 23, 29, 31, 50 & 65, then taking BSOS late.

In that, I had us targeting Bailey at 23 in order to get ahead of Melbourne, Gold Coast, Sydney, Richmond and St Kilda in the back end of the second round, though some of those are dependent on where bids fall for Academy and F/S players (Sydney and the Dogs might not have live picks until the third and fourth rounds, for example).

There's talk he may slide even further, but I doubt he'll make it past the Hawks. We've got two future thirds we can use in a straight trade, but I'm still holding out hope we keep cashing in by trading down towards the bottom of the top 30 and give the list some of the great talent on offer in the top 50 of this draft.

If Williams slides out of the top 40, we're a great chance to trade back into the order for him.

Although happy with trading period picks, i am slightly concerned we are seemingly only going into this strong draft with only 2 live picks (obviously Ben Silvagni will be chosen as a F/S pick)

Obviously SOS and the recruiting staff felt the need to bring mature/bigger bodies and experienced players to the club (and i agree) but i just wish we could pluck another 2nd and 3rd rounder from somewhere with live trading on draft night.

Then again, injuries notwithstanding, we are fairly close to having a best 22 core that will be part of our next flag tilt, although i still have concerns about the ruck, long term. (Although i like the idea of Harry pinch hitting there, if and when the occasion arises)

Not sure about that. It's a big decision with the future of the club firmly in mind.

You don't need to fit them all in on game day.

You create an environment where depth equals competition for spots, which can only be a good thing.

We've done it out of necessity in recent years, but there's no need for every draftee to be playing senior football each and every week.

And why is that a bad thing?

Players develop at different rates regardless of which level they play at.
Isn't the point of trading a future first to get another go in this draft to get talent in a year earlier to speed up development? If development is hampered by getting a game, what's the point?

Unless we have a specific target that we rate highly, I don't see the value in trading next year's first without something coming back.

FWIW, the pick trade window has now closed. Pick trading will be available again through the draft, and it would seem picks are not being discarded based on list sizes just yet. Perhaps once a team fills their lists, the picks are then immediately deleted?

Hopefully we have some scenarios ready to go, and we're looking to unleash one on Gold Coast come the eve of the draft.

In the mean time, just leave them simmering in the media pressure cooker for a few days.

Development should not be hampered if you're not getting a game at senior level each and every week.

There are obvious developmental benefits to playing at the highest level, but the good clubs are run well enough that their reserves sides are also good avenues for development.

We need a strong Northern Blues side to ensure that happens, we don't have that yet but there are signs IMO we're on the right track.

With a healthy list I think people might be surprised at how well the VFL side performs, and how well our kids develop in that environment.

Unless we have a specific target that we rate highly, I don't see the value in trading next year's first without something coming back.

If it happens it'll almost certainly only be during the draft, so obviously it'll only be done if there's someone we rate highly left on the board.

We're not going to trade for the sake of trading.

I'll be perfectly happy if we don't pull the trigger on a trade but I'd be disappointed if it's not something we're seriously considering.

As for something coming back...of course there will be. I've already explained the benefits, and it can be argued we're finding someone to absorb the bulk of the risk on for us given the uncertainty they're taking on.

There's not much else to talk about.

Trying to guess who we'll take with picks in the 70's is both difficult and not very interesting.
Same with the rookie draft.
Boys have only just started training again, so it'll be a while before we get some interesting track reports.
Captaincy has been locked down.
Coaches are all in place.

So given keeping Pick 1 = taking Sam Walsh, tradye hypotheticals to move down the order and add some more picks is about all we've got as far as more expansive footy talk goes.

See. I just spent 5 minutes crafting an elaborate post detailing how little there is to talk about. This is what we've been reduced to.
Never in the history of BF has so much been written by so many with so little said.

No long story short the avatar is Dennis Hopper as a character named Feck in a great lil depressing indie movie from the 90's called Rivers Edge. Thought his name was Fet for a long time, so stuck with it. Dennis was great in that film. RIP. So no its nothing to do with Boba
Watched that movie in my English class.

This is a direct result of all those keen on trading to get McGovern. He was never what I wanted so will have to trust why coach Bolton and the recruiting team supported Bolts get him. However we got plenty of shiny new toys from draft in last three years so I will be pretty content getting Walsh, Ben Silvagni and some project youngster with late pick. Walsh should just about round out all the class we need for midfield for next decade. Up to coaching and developing staff now to have them reach their potential collectively as we go through next decade. McGovern needs to compliment everything else they been working on to make full sense in time.

Would love to know who Matt is talking about here.

Looking at the Vic Country list there are a whole lot of names who have been mentioned late in mock drafts.

Will Hamill
Laitham Vandermeer
Zac Foot
Tom Berry
Mitchell Riordan
Sam Fletcher
Matthew McGannon
Charlie Sprague
Hudson Garoni
Riley Bowman
Connor Idun

Thoughts Arr0w ?

All of those guys have merit, late in the draft. If it was me, Vandermeer is the one

Sam Fletcher, I have huge confidence in him. Vandermeer interests me too, not sure he’ll be there for our late picks.
