Let take Gold Coast who many folks assume are easily tricked.

Folks need to realise the Craig Cameron is now the Gold Coast Suns List Manager (since the start of this year). He was not the boss when the infamous Pick 2 for Lachie Weller trade happened.

Cameron is not a complete idiot, from what I understand of him.

The current Gold Coast draft hand is incredible (2, 3, 6, 24 & 29) ; it is almost akin to the draft concessions when the club first started.

Cameron would be an idiot to convert some of those picks into fewer picks.
Cameron would also be an idiot to downgrade some of those very high picks to go too far further back in the draft (e.g 2 & 3).

The top 8 kids are too elite this year to willy-nilly trade away from them.

The understanding is that we can not trade our 2019 1st since we already traded our 2019 2nd. We need a 2nd in the hand before we can trade the 1st.

That's what folks say in regards to AFL rules.

AFL won't give us jack, nada, zipo and zilch. They would enforce the rule 100% for sure

Any scenario involving trading #2019 1st must include a second round coming back, and as mentioned the Suns don't have one to give.

Most of these trades are fantasy land.
Gold Coast have a great draft hand, which they should keep.
Port is happy where they are, they will get an SA boy.
Crows are too far down for us.

They have more Draftpicks in the first two rounds than list spots. So what will they do? Just waste a 2nd? Perhaps a 3 way with whoever has 2 X 2nds next year.

Our 2019 1st for 3 and 2x 2nds. One of those is traded for a 2019 2nd.

Spot on - GC are no longer run by muppets and they have zero incentive to do anything except maybe swap their seconds for another top10-12 pick if anything.
Pick#1 will be used on best player for Carlton. We need to keep next yr's first for next year's shenanigans - even if the club has a break out year and wins 5-7 games - it will still be a good pick to negotiate with.

Looking like Walsh unless someone goofs and hands Carlton 2 picks in the top 3-7 for pick#1 - won't happen.

BEN Silvagni has always wanted to play for Carlton.
With a surname that is synonymous with the football club, it's little surprise that the draft hopeful is motivated by the prospect of one day pulling on the navy blue jumper.

But if following in the footsteps of his grandfather Sergio and his father Stephen started Ben's desperation to one day play for Carlton, the potential of joining his older brother and best mate Jack at the club has made him all the more determined to get to Ikon Park.

Unless we read the GC tea leaves and are confident they want the Lukosius/Rankine combo (the SA combo) and choose to use pick 1 on either of those two and entice them to bid on our selection with 3 & 6, hence:

Pick 4 - M.King
Pick 5 - Connor Rozee
Pick 6 - Smith, B.King, other

I do agree with that "might"......if they have enough spots (which is something I had not considered).

Still, on balance, I like 3 of the 6 more than I would 4 of the top 14. Just putting my Carlton hat on and substituting us for GC.

Using a crystal ball I think the Gold Coast would love: Sam Walsh, Jack Lukosius and Max King with their 3 picks. A big, a mid, and a swingman. Gut feel is they take Walsh before Rankine with an eye to him being a future club captain.

I get all the dialogue that GCS have a heap of picks and have to rebuild and add players etc etc etc. But Sam Walsh is the perfect player for them. All the perceived assets he brings as a footballer and then leadership are all but dwarfed by the fact he has come out and said he will fully commit to whoever selects him. That is huge for GCS. They seriously can’t go past him. The SA boys have been vocal and so have the SA teams. The King brothers are no given to stay around either. None of them are leaders either, something GCS just lost two of.

I think they’ll trade up for Walsh.

Adelaide give us 3 + 16 for pick 1 and their future 3rd

Adelaide get Lukosius at 1
Gold coast get Walsh at 2
We take Smith at 3 and O'Halloran at 16

My dream outcome, but unlikely to happen as adelaide sell the farm in that scenario even though on points it's balanced
