This Fab Four tag is getting lame.

Carlton's 'Fab Four' set to rock Dockers

"It is such a young group and it is very exciting," said Gibbs.

"We are starting to play really well together and we are starting to understand each others' game and how we go about things.

"If we can stick together over the next few years I think we can really be a dominant force and drive the team to win some games."

It's soothing to hear Gibbs talk in this way.

Also good to note that getting to know each other's games is going to play a massive role in the development of this team. The more games these guys rack up as a unit the better off we're going to be.

I was thinking about this the other day.

A number of guys going through that midfield were new to each other last year, and can only get better.
Obviously Judd and Hadley were new, Gibbs was new to the middle having been down back, Kreuzer was new, and Stevens, with this group was practically new too.

It was always going to take a little time for them to gel and work each others games out, and this will continue to happen over the next year or so.

Check out Juddy's t-shirt tan line.....or should i say strap tan line!!!

so unusual to see the man without the roll of Elastoplast!!!

Understanding between players is priceless. You can't teach it, you can't recruit it; it can only be built through playing together.

I think about this particularly with our backline. Understanding among defenders can be so important and we only got these guys playing together as a unit 30 odd games ago. The potential for improvement is enough to keep me mild when goals leak though too easily.

I don't like this hype. The Yockers smashed us in the pre-season and Pavlovavitch and Sandinlands always smash us.

The Yockers are in good form at the moment, even if they have lost Palmer. We can't walk out there thinking we are billionaires and these wanky articles aren't deserved until we win a flag or have spent a few years as a top four team.

Surely if you're going to give our midfield a name it'd be something more original than "Fab Four"?

Stupid Hird, use your imagination instead of recycling a term used less than half a decade ago. :thumbsd:

what else could we use

Fantastic Four
Oarsome Foursome
JC and his disciples
The 4 Apostles
Four-ce or 4-ce!! (as in Force)

Oh dear. Pencil in the loss right now. The last time we were over-hyped as having a 'fab four' we lost.

Make no mistake, this is a danger 'home' game away from home; if we believe the press again... "They are a very under-rated side and they can sneak up on you when you least expect it," said Gibbs.

Ignoring the Swans' mature bodied well drilled tempo game (flooding, if you prefer), we lost to Essendon and Hawthorn mainly* because when we didn't have the ball we were left flat-footed by opposition players who ran and carried.

It's fine to suggest that our 'fab four' may have an influence. But there's another 14 players on the ground at any one time who need to do the hard stuff, i.e. tackling and chasing. Freo are the sort of team that could exploit us if we take them lightly.

* Much as individuals may like to scapegoat Bret Thornton.

Yes Palmer is out, and so is Crowley, who is their best tagger, and usually does a good job against us. I really am expecting us to win this week.

Oh Yeah...we're the only good midfieled going round since Brisbane.
Lets forget the westcoast midfield of a few years back: Judd Cousins Kerr Embley Braun Fletcher.
Lets forget the current crop of geelong midfielders who are obviously too old and overrated: Ablett Bartel Corey Chapman Enright Kelly Selwood Ling

I smell another loss coming on. Last time they believed all that crap, and seems like it's going to be the same story. Our mid filed seems to be getting over rated a lot. Fact is only one of those four is Elite at the moment, and I think we seem to have written Freo off already. Typical of some Carlton fans and supporters, same way we wrote of Essendon.
