Hi All,

Little perplexed at the moment. There are many posters on here (some of whom I think are usually high calibre) who have this view that Carrazzo will and should start on the bench, ie. in the 22 but no in the starting 18 on the ground. I seriously can't understand this.....the guy has been training the house down and on form would have to be in the top 5 players at the club.

His kicking has improved and he has real penetration about his game. Always willing to go in and get the hard ball as well as build play and stick up for his mates.

I for one think we can only judge team on last series of performance and with this in mind he would be my second best midfielder (2nd to Judd of course) as far as inclusions go.

Am I missing something or are most people mistakingly underating him again. As far as I'm concerned he would be in the team before Gibbs, Murphy, Scotland, Jackson, Stevens, Simpson, etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you. he has good disposal and is cleaner than many others

I would like to see him become better at getting in the clinches. Otherwise agree that he is in our top half dozen players AND WOULD CERTAINLY BE PICKED AHEAD OF STEVENS IN ANY OTHER SIDE

He definitely should be ahead of Stevens, who hasn't played at AFL level since Round 3 last season, yeah, he played a couple of pre-season games, Carrazzo is definitely in the best 18.

If Hampson is fit for Round 1, my starting midfield would be Hampson, Judd, Carrazzo and Murphy, with Gibbs and Simpson on the wings and Stevens in the FP or on the bench

Why does Stevens deserve to start ahead of Carrazzo, based on what?

This is the only doubt over his game for me. I think his play in general lacks impact. Great endeavour, great at finding the ball, but only fair at using it. Not the ability to break a game open with a few telling plays. So Stevo would still be picked first in my team.

If he improves the same amount he did last year though he will be one of the games elite by years end.

So he's in the top dozen or so for mine...and a definite starter on the field.

Well he's my buddy so I might be biased, but I think it's insulting to suggest Carrot starts on the bench each game.
He is a very hard worker, who tries his guts out each week (certainly his disposal can do with more tinkering, however he has come on leaps and bounds from where he was a couple of years ago)
BTW You find that generally you dont' have to start Carrot as an onballer, often he starts in the back pocket/half back flank, along with Scotland ...

Personally he is a quiet achiever, who sets a great example with work ethic and work rate, and should be in the leadership group IMHO.

i think if he can't improve his quality of disposal then he will find it harder and harder to be part of our number 1 midfield rotation. Too many times his handballs put a lot of pressure on the receiver and his kicks go to the receivers position rather than to their advantage or directing them into open space.

For someone that seems to find it so easy to get the ball so often it can swing either way after his disposal. In todays game there is nothing worse than a quick turnover and it is these errors that can result in putting undue pressure on our defense.

He needs to learn more about placing his disposal to our advantage. The best player that does this is robert harvey, james hird was fantastic (excuse me while i vomit in my mouth) and even our own B.Gibbs and M.Murphy. It's only a subtle difference but can result in either a goal for us or one for them.

all being 100% fit this is the case.........
judd (then a million miles behind) stevens (then a million miles behind) carrazzo.

some people have short memories on what nick stevens can do, his disposal is ten times what carrots is, he has the 2nd best set of hips in the AFL (behind harvey) and his ability to shrug tackles & find space is second to none.

if murphy, gibbs, stevens, judd & are all firing they will be 1st choice midfielders, with carazzo, simpson, scotland, bentick etc spending less time in the mid than those previously mentioned.

Celtic if he is your buddy, then it is obvious that he is a casual one at that! Carrots was the first named in the 2008 Leadership group on the 23rd of January!

his handballing makes me feel physically ill. whenever we are rebounding out of defence we lose all pace because he turns the ball over. i think we should settle him in the HB line as arunner/tagger - he is a ball magnet and would be quite able to shut down most players....or annoy the absolute shit through them.

Spot on.

Long term, I just can't find a spot for him ahead of Judd, Stevens, Gibbs, Murphy and Walker in our onball division.

The first four are better ball users than Carrazzo, whilst Judd, Simpson and Walker gives a slow midfield more legspeed and run and carry than Carrazzo provides.

Walker was flying before he injured his shoulder the first time. :(

I don't rate Carrazzo's kicking when he isn't given any time and the opposition corral him, forcing him to stop and prop before trying to hit a target. Carrots murdered Carlton and Russell when he didn't kick to the advantage of a player who had front position and was leading towards him.

BOMB!

Houlihan does cop a raw deal on here when Carrazzo still murders the ball, but AC would get picked ahead of Houla by most footy fans.

Like Walker, Carrazzo can hit a target instinctively, but it takes a footballer with poise such as Pendlebury, Gibbs, Judd, Murphy, Dal Santo, Harvey, etc. to find a target when they're under the pump. I don't think our midfield will have developed if Carrazzo is still in our best players in three years time and our B & F player.

Don't bite my head off here, but I think we should start Carrazzo off of the bench, but only for the first few minutes of the game, before racing the good bugger onto the field. I think he does some of his sneakiest stuff coming on from the bench:thumbsu:. Nice little one percenters, possessions with no opp. players around, things alike.

Guess who started on the bench the last 2 games? Marc Murphy. Gibbs started on the bench last Fri. Jackson generally does also. These days you should have 22 players all playing a role and it doesn't matter who starts on the bench.

I have a lot of time for Carrots and see a spot in the 22 for him easily.

IMO the thing that he lacks still is the ability to be damaging with the ball.
Often in his high possession games he racks up stats by giving the old 1-2, as most high possession players do, but it would be nice to see him hurt teams on the counter attack.

Still has a dodgy kick which may never improve, but he has pace and he gets his own pill. Maybe he should work with Ratts on being a touch more creative by hand!

All in all, he helps make up a potentially damaging midfield, and not many players will stay in the center all game. Much rather have him there than not:thumbsu:

i'd reckon he might end up in a back pocket, which is where he started.
I don't see why we should throw him down back again. He won our B&F playing in the midfield, it just seems like a huge waste of talent and plenty of potential, if he hasn't showed how good he can be already.

because the people coming into the midfield are better than him. he won the bnf in a bad year, i still admire what he did but it does need context.

stupid thread.

Gone are the days when you talk about the starting 18. There is some 10 rotations off the bench within the first 10 minutes of a match, it is basically irrelevant who starts on the ground or not.

We've got about 5 spots for midfielders (discluding a ruckman), spots taken by Stevens, Judd, Scotland, Gibbs and -. The - could be a selection of other players, and Carrazzo is almost the cream of the crop, but i'd still imagine would fill one of the spots, as Murphy still plays great football on the HF line. I guess everyone will just fit in if Ratten goes with the rotational policy.

A best and fairest in a bad year, yet he still out polled Scotland?

With Setanta out I think we need a player who has the uptempo emotional style of play and I think Carrazzo offers this as his most significant asset. He gets in and gives it a go. That will do me!

i don't understand what that means, but i don't rate Scotland at all...and i wanted to take this chance to say it again.
