Our forward line has some real problems. We cant seem to lock key positions down and rely on Dog and Stoksey as our main avenues to goal.
This surely wont cut it come September, so what should we do to address over the coming weeks? Do we persevere with Hawkins, wait for Moons to regain form or try Lonners?

Discuss.

I think giving mooney some more space and 1 on 1 contests may be effective. i think his form slump has been a little over-hyped as he really hasn't been as down as everyone is suggesting and has been a bit wasteful infront of goal. not sure about hawkins, one thing is for sure that a run in the 2's won't hurt him, and if lonergan had've kicked straight tonight, everyone would be on his bandwagon, although he was given his shots on goal mostly from free kicks.

In fairness, it wasn't against September-bound opposition.

Well last week was.

You guys all seem to be relaxed about it but the fact is that Moons and Hawkins have been poor this year, which means we are relying more and more on small forwards and midfield to kick a winning score. I just dont think this will be enough against decent opposition.

No, I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying a 60-point win tonight does not mean our forward line structure is working that well at the moment. I'm with you here.

Agreed SJ. Dog played fine tonight, but was in the pound last week.

Intensity was great tonight, but delivery into forward 50 and forward structure was lacking. We can fix it im sure, plus there's plenty of time until the Dawks (17) and finals to run into form.

I am starting to wonder whether either Milburn or Mackie need to be considered as taller forward options. Even though Lonergan did ok tonight I don't see him as an option going into September.

Possibly even Scott Simpson should be trialed as from what I have seen of him he has terrific hands and is a hard worker.

Hawkins to me looks to have a put on a bit of pudding again. He is not moving well and is clearly out of form. With the footy going into forward 50 as often as it does (except for last week) he should be doing a bit better. He should be dropped for Mooney next week.

Blame McF*ckingDonalds for bringing back the McFeast Deluxe. Blame KFC for creating the Zinger burger. Damn, I'm glad I'm not in the senior squad:D!!

It's a hard one [jesus, im sounding like Wallsy here], but i think playing Hawkins in the seniors is a good thing to get him exposed to the pressure and pace of the game at the highest level.. He still commands a decent backman and will learn from the experience which is all good. Problem really that we cant have other key position players as passengers as well. Mooney is a decent player who may have played above himself last year, he's AA and needs to prove that it wasnt a fluke. If we can just nail the key CHF/FF places down then we are looking good this year given the quality of small forwards we have. Did i hear someone say "J. Brown"?

Keep Hawkins I say. He is looking slightly out of depth but things can change quickly. His first five or six games were more than serviceable. The boy needs a bit of confidence and the coaches orders to go for it from every set shot.

Thats the big thing. If he can go back and slot a few it will do wonders for his confidence.

I think unless Mooney is still injured i dont think Hawkins will stay in.
At tonights press conference Thompson hinted that Lonergan would play again next week were his own words.
