It looks like a big part of Geelongs attempt to change is about growing as a people.

Mooney is seeing a councellor
Tenace is talking about focussing more on football
Jnr is facing his fear of the press
Scarlett & King out of the leadership group
Harley placed as captain
Johnson given a massive penalty for his actions

It looks like the cats are placing the emphasis not just on being good footballers but better people. How do you guys think this will effect the club?

These are all posative actions and can benefit the players and therefore the club itself. :thumbsu:

A whole bunch of self-aware people not afraid to talk honestly about things and work hard can surely only lead to a champion team.

Geelong has historically been a team that many players have not wanted to go to. This could help that.

Players don't want to go to the Team Geelong because they don't want to live in the town Geelong. Not dissing the town, but most people see it as a small town and would prefer to be in the captial city.

That said, once they get there, the retention rate is pretty good.

I am the first to say words dont win footy games..but..

I like what I've been reading in the press lately. King talks about the reality of where the group is at and does it pretty honestly, Harley backs that up saying there are no more excuses but they can only do what is their best so as to not create unrealistic expectations before a ball has even been bounced in earnest and if they arent good enough well 14 other clubs will be joining them seasons end, Gary Jnr says they are fitter but doesnt get ahead of himself, just says whatever happens will happen and thats true, thats life more or less...even Cookie giving it to the AFL in a way where in the past he may have been more diplomatic shows me every single person at the club I am hearing from is looking to improve their football however it relates to them as an individual at the club.

I wont be judging the season on how they go in the NAB cup or the first month of the season, but over the full 22 weeks and hopefully finals thereafter....so their efforts over the pre season are a long way from fruition...

...but I am really respecting the fact they have responded to the review so lets see how it plays out on the field...I wish them well.

It does seem that the club as a whole has had a good hard look at itself and the review recommendations have been taken on board.
Also believe that Balmy's contribution is starting to show results with a more self-awarness and professional attitude from all areas of the club. :thumbsu:
