well said windy hill. When i was in London there were a number of celtic friendlies/ testimonials. Great crowd pullers and pretty well behaved

You played Man Utd and Leeds in testimonial's. One was Giggs' one (the one where your fans paid a visit to the Manchester bomb site) while the other was for Gary Kelly of Leeds who is an Irishman and was a childhood Celtic fan.

While the only other 2 you played in England in the past few, were Leicester City and Queens Park Rangers. The one against Leicester City by the way was part of the settlement to get O'Neill off them, while the QPR was a pre season friendly and that was because you offered them to because of their financial state at the time.

Hardly got them because of your fans, but because of your links to these clubs and the fact you'll tart yourself off anywhere to play friendly's against big name teams.

Rangers don't do that anymore because we rather play smaller clubs who could use the money from a home friendly against us.

I think the argument is fair. Have Celtic & Rangers in England somehow (be it 1st devision or whatever) and then let the other Scottish clubs get a far more realistic chance of making Europe. That sounds like a fair deal to me-if the Old Firm want to play against the Sassenachs, they forfeit their virtual right to play in Europe each year.

Considering that Celtic made the UEFA Cup final last year, that is quite something to give up.

If Celtic or Rangers want to join the English League then they should have to start in the Conference at the very least and make their way into the Football League from there. I don't see why 2 English clubs should lose their spot in the Football League so a couple of Scottish clubs can join. No way should they get a walk up start into the First Division. There are enough (relatively) big clubs in England that are busting a gut trying to get to Div. 1 as is (e.g. Sheffield Wednesday, Hull City, Bristol City, QPR, etc) and more than enough big English clubs in Div. 1 battling to get into the Premiership. They should have to make their way up the pyramid like everyone else, or they can forget it.

BTW, I don't think anyone answered it, but the Welsh team that won the FA Cup was Cardiff City, 1-0 against Arsenal in 1927. It would be interesting to see Cardiff get promoted to the Premiership. I think they would go some way to filling Millennium Stadium (no way could they stay at Ninian Park, it's a sh*t tip) each week if they did.

Celtic have played in **** loads of testimonials and charity games. The classic one in terms of rangers support was ex-huns jimmy phillips, he got one at Bolton and instead of asking for his ex-team to appear asked for Celtic. Why would he do this ? Because every time rangers travel down to England it becomes a war zone.
Celtic out number the supporters of the club who are supposed to be honouring one of their own, most times. Just off the top of my head they have appeared ( apart from the ones you have mentioned) for Peter Beardsley, Mark Hughes and Tony Adams. I know there are quite a few more.

A couple of pages ago, someone said something about if Rangers and Celtic were admitted into the EPL, would it be fair to the newly promoted Division 1 teams.

Well, how hard could it be to have the two Scottish teams, and the three Division 1 teams? 22 teams isn't so bad, is it?

Giggs and Adams gave over half to charity.
I am talking about testimonials Rob. rangers " choose not to play" because they are never asked in the first place.

what i mean is you still have the EPL, SPL and the "league of Wales" but instead of having like the FA cup for example you have one Cup for britian outside of the regular leagues which all teams in britain participate in.

The last time Celtic played United in a testimonial in Manchester, there were plenty of crowd problems due to the Celtic pro-IRA chants after the Manchester bombing.

Just what I've been saying all along. Last time Celtic were in Manchester they ****ed off the entire city with their antics. To go to a spot where the IRA killed people and then start singing pro-IRA songs is not only in bad taste, but its what Celtic fans always do.

WindyHill, Rangers don't get asked because we ALWAYS say no. Its been the clubs policy for a decades. Heck we didn't go though with signing a player last season because part of the transfer fee meant Rangers would of had to play a friendly as part of the deal.

The only riot Rangers fans have been in , South of the border, was the one against Wolves in the 60's.

Yep, there has been a connection to Man Utd and Celtic. Roy Keane is well known and he was booed all match at Ibrox, because of it. Out of the 2 Old Firm managers Alex McLeish has taken over O'Neill as the most likely out of the Old Firm to manager Man Utd, even Sir Alex is said to be in favour of him being the next manager after him, while there was talk at the start of the season Sir Alex wanted Big Eck as his number 2.

This is argued ad nauseaum above, but that comparison is irrelevant. There is no top-class Rugby League competition in New Zealand. Nor is there is Basketball, hence a NZ team has been admitted to the NBL. If these two teams weren't allowed in there would be no way for them to play top class Rugby League or Basketball.

Celtic's situation is totally different. They haven been part of the Scottish Legaue for 100 years, solely because, they're Scottish (hard to believe I know.) and they havn't been prevented from playing top class football.

What is the point having a Scottish Legaue if teams from that country are going to play in another country? Sure it would work. They'd be a big club and they'd make a lot of money in the EPL, but so would AC Milan, So would Real Madrid if they joined the English League. What's that you say? Celtic are part of Great Britain? Maybe so, but in Soccer terms they are four separate countries, and have leagues representing those countries that prove that. Cetlic don't belong out of Scotland.

There are examples of smaller countries having teams in another countires league. Leichesnstein, for instance are part of the Swiss League I think, because Liechenstein can't support their own League. Wales have teams in the English league because Wales didn't have their own League at the time (they do now.)

Scotland's Legaue, whilst not as strong as the power leagues, has provided the European Cup winner in the past, and has been a strong and prosperous league for 100 years. Scotland can support their own League. It would be farcical if the two strongest clubs were to leave just to satisfy the fantasies of some EPL fans who have hypothesised about regular meetings between their club and Celtic.

Scotland isn't a country. That's the major difference. The second issue is that the Scottish league is of a poor quality other than the old firm. There is an argument to amalgamate the Scottish and English leagues rather than just take the Old Firm out alone. I'd see that as preferable to just taking out the big 2.

As I have earlier pointed out there is an english team in the Scottish league just as there are Welsh teams in the English league. Its not a huge leap to actually have a whole of country league rather than regional leagues.

Comparing the Italian and Spanish leagues to the Scottish league is really silly (you do this by using AC Milan and Real Madrid as examples) and actually wrong. Madrid and Milan would have nothing to gain by joining the EPL - arguably the Spanish and Italian leagues are stronger and they'd lose out in playing games against Southampton rather than Juventus, Roma, Inter or Lazio. Likewise do you think a Real vs Everton game has more to offer than a Deporto, Barca, Valencia or Sociedad game? Please don't tell me that the Scottish league is similar to these leagues... its not in the same class as the Portugese, dutch or Belgian leagues which are better comparisons.

That is not entirly true. Berwick Rangers is right on the border with most of the town on the Scottish side of the border. The clubs ground is on the English side, but not by much and the clubs offices and training base are on the Scottish side.

Whether it should be a country is one thing and whether it has been a separate country is another but obviously officially its not a country at the moment. I'm all for repealing the Act of Union but I'll have Rangers and Celtic in the EPL until such a time comes.

I take your point (Berwick has changed hands 13 times) but the town is in the English county of Northumberland.
