Yeah Sloane isn't replacing anyone on the wings. That midfield you described is too inside heavy IMO

Gibbs, crouch x2, Sloane, greenwood, CEY, gooch, knight... I think they can all fit.. just rotate them off half back or half forward and the bench..

That’s what I’d like to see.. but just have the feeling when bcrouch comes back CEY goes out..

With every body fit, I feel that there are two spots up for grabs between CEY, Douglas, Greenwood and Knight. These guys would be the 5th and 6th rotations through the midfield given that the top 4 would be Gibbs, Sloane, M Crouch and B Crouch. One of these guys would need to rotate heavily through the forward line, which probably gives the edge to Douglas. My preference of these 4 is Greenwood. So I have CEY, Douglas and Knight fighting for one spot.

Knight could also take the defensive forward role of Gallucci/Murphy and there is possibly an argument that he could take Atkins role, but personally I prefer to persist with Atkins given his most recent performances.

Can't see us playing CEY, Greenwood, Crouch x2, Sloane, Gibbs & Douglas all in the same side.

The thing about his mistakes is they are generally made in heavy traffic and the majority of them have been when opponents have intercepted his handballs as he’s dishing out of the pack... I think it happened 3 or 4 times against the tigers in round 2 alone.. it’s not exactly a mistake that is confined to CEY, happens to many players even some of the best. His just stick out more than others, maybe because the scrutiny is higher..

Some his handballs out of congestion to crow team mates running past in recent weeks have been brilliant.. the receiving team mates haven’t had to even break stride to take the ball and some of these have set up/led to goals... one on the weekend on the wing went to either Atkins or brown who then speared it into tex I think, but it was a brilliant handball out of congestion and over the top of other players and straight into his team mates hands..

He’s getting better and gaining confidence with every game but you get the feeling he’s fast approaching his peak... he was among our best Saturday night.
Nice , agree with your points .
Again i think people need to see what else he brings in the clinch .
He is so combative and competitive and it is all of this type of work in unison with Greenwood that allows our other midfielders to benefit .
Our midfield for far too long has been Jacobs tap to player and try and win the ball and bash it forward ( intercept ) , we are only now starting to engage in the tussle before trying to win a clean clearance . It is the way of the modern game and therefore it is crucial to have some beasts in the contest .
He also tracks the ball really well defensively and kid can tackle .
As you alluded i think his disposal and offensive efficiency will improve as the season progresses .

I can see a tough decision coming up between CEY and Greenwood
When ?? they have been awesome in unison ... but agree some games one can sit ( etihad ) . They both are first 22 IMO .
We should play more horses for courses anyway and use the depth and youth in our squad . We are so rigid in this

If the aim is to run 8 or 9 through the midfield he fits in when it comes to injury and player management.
Id have him before mckay murphy poholke atkins.
I would prefer to see an extra rotation forward instead of jenkins.

From fridays side
smith for mckay
Hartigan for otten
Crouch for poholke.
Sloane for atkins
Betts for jenkins

Im not sure rat will stand up in finals.
Imagine Cey and greenwood just taking in turns crashing in clearances

Brad Crouch isnt playing any significant minutes this year
Know something?

Would thought he will return in the 2nd half of the year.

Not particularly but its Brad Crouch. I think he needs time away from being the ' next big thing' . He continues to push past breaking point in trying to get himself right to play. And its a vicious circle. He puts weight on easy and then has to burn it off.

I hope I'm wrong.

Care to expand on this?

As for CEY, the thing we need to also consider is that he's just come back to the AFL after a serious season ending injury. He will need time to regain his peak performance and confidence. There is still scope for further improvement, and the good news is, he's on the improvement week after week. Shows he's still got the hunger to be part of our regular 22. If he can keep maintaining this standard and improve some more, then no reason why he should ever be left out of our team. You would think he has more points in the bank than Knights, Gooch or Polhoke at this stage.

Played 20 games last year at 28 disposals per game and played 16 the year before.

Think he will be back on the park and back close to his 2017 level before finals.

Let’s see if one week is wiped off the “weeks” next to his name on the injury list.. if it goes back up to 6... we riot.

CEY has impressed me this year. Brute of a guy. I really hope he can continue to develop his game. I would like to see more “simple” things from him. Is it me or does he seem to always want to take on a mountain all the time. Don’t get me wrong if you can do it that is great, but he needs more exposure to work on his footy smarts across his game so he can get that balance.

Still, you gotta love his attack on both the ball and ball carrier.

He's not in our best XXII though; he'll be replaced when/if both Sloane and Brad Crouch return, and he can't play as a crumbing/defensive forward so he won't dislodge Knight or Gallucci.

He's been fantastic given he's coming off a knee reco and I hope he continues to improve but he's just not in our best team right now.

Given he's only played 20 games and is returning from a serious knee injury, CEY's posting some pretty impressive stats. He is currently:

- averaging 21.5 disposals a game at 73% efficiency (of the midfielders, only Crouch has better, with 75%).
- of our midfielders, has less clangers than Gibbs and Greenwood.
- is 6th for turnovers but behind Laird, Seedsman, Gibbs, Briwn and Atkins. And drops to 8th on average per game (Lynch, Sloane and Douglas have more).
- 2nd in tackles at the club (to Greenwood).
- has taken as many contested marks as Gov and Doedee.
- is 9th at the club for metres gained and 11th for score involvements.
- has kicked 4 goals (equal 8th at club)

- 23rd overall in competition for Contested Posessions.
- 24th overall in Clearances.
- 5th overall in Centre Clearances.
- 19th overall for Tackles.

His performances - bar the Collingwood game in which nearly everyone was awful - have been far better than you'd expect from a mere depth player. If he stays fit, and maintains his form, it will be damn hard to dislodge him from the side.

I don't agree with Jenkins out for Betts and long term I think there is a spot for Polholke, but damn that starts to look like a pretty serious side with those changes doesn't it. This year for us is all about getting enough wins on the board to hopefully make the top four, and hitting finals fit and in form.

Atkins has a massive black mark against his name in my book. Need to see a harder edge, more compromising approach and performance in games where the heat is really on to change my mind. I hate to have a personal scapegoat, but he's my first out whenever I look at a change.

There is a spot for CEY and Greenwood in my 22 simply because they're the type of players that win finals, even if they're not necessarily in the top six in the team. This is particularly true with the way the game is going this season.

The depth is looking so strong.
I like Poholke as well, has time to develop to replace Betts or Douglas
Forgot about Fogarty.
If he builds his tank then it going to be difficult for both Cey and greenwood.
Top 4 side with 3 picks in top 20.
Depth is going to be strong to 30-35 deep.

Don't tell Vader

Considering how shredded and fit CEY looked before doing his knee last year let's not forget he is 7 games into his first season back .
I really do not think it is fair to put a ceiling on him as he was firstly never really given a chance and then suffered an ACL .
7 games back and he has been very good overall . He is an absolute BULL and there are only a dozen or so of these types in the AFL .
Our midfield as a unit functions so much better with him in the team and let's see where he is at mid to late season with him rounding out the edges as he gains strength in continuity .
In 3 of our wins he was a if not the major part of our clearance and contested possession domination .
Plus he is a selfless tackling machine , averaging around 8 hard tackles per game .
He is one player i can live making a couple of mistakes due to what else he brings .

He's had 7 seasons on our list, which means it's very much well known his ceiling is either the last midfielder in our rotation, or purely depth. You don't need someone to play AFL to understand what their ceiling is, looking at their tools and what they offer is purely enough.

He's played himself into surviving until Brouch is fit then it's back to the SANFL for him.
