Anyone watch the very first few overs of the 1 dayer in Perth today, particularly the controversial catch? Its channel nine in the first place that makes the umpires so nervous about making risky decisions with all their "state-of-the-art" technology which scrutinizes every umpires decision.

Then Richie Benaud goes and says that video umpiring shouldn't be allowed when ch. 9 introduced it. Ch 9 dont make decisions until after they see the replay for dodgy situations so why shouldn't the umpires.

What does everyone else think on the topic?

Vis, I was just about to post up a topic on if folks at home would of:

1) Given Campbell out for that 'run-out' decision, where he was intercepted by Streak and decided not to run.

2) Did the catch carry to Streak, all of nine's replays showed it was a clean catch, but the third umpire gave the green light.

I'd be interested to know what camera shots the third umpire has access to, and how come Nine and the 3rd umpire both don't see the same shots, so they can make the same decisions.

West Indies all out for 178, looks like Sundays game (Australia vs Zimbabwe) will be a preview of the final series.

The technology should only be used for run outs. Its shown itself to be inadequate for judging catches. I thopught that it was pretty ordinary for Ponting to hang around after the fielder had confirmed he had caught it.
How long until its the norm for all decisions to be referred to the channel 9 commentry team for final approval? Who would want to be an umpire with this added pressure

Yes Campbell should've been given out.Why did he stop ?
If he kept running the ZIMBO player would've had to throw at the stumps and may of missed.

I thought Streak clearly took that catch.

Ganga was out....pretty obvious that, and Campbell, felt sorry for him, he shouldn't have been out. A batsmen i think should have right of way running down the wicket and bowler should not be able to interfere with the batsmen. I mean even if Streak hadn't collided he wasn't even going to be the first fielder to the ball anyway. Shocking day of cricket today.

Well, Sunday's game will be for nothing but pride after Zimbabwe lost tonight. I'm glad the West Indies got through, I'd rather watch them than Zimbabwe, even if both teams would have got flogged in the finals. Hopefully Lara can produce a gem of an innings in the finals and we might just have half a contest.

ant, I'm going to the game on Sunday and will be interested to see if Zimbabwe play for pride and see if they can come away with a good result or use the game to possibly try new tactics (changes in batting order) I'd love to see Streak open the batting and be a dasher for the first 15 overs.
