It's called smart business

mmmm, pass.

i wouldnt mind taking a chance on tarrant at west coast, but not for fletch. tarrant is just as liable to walk out on football again, or destroy his career with his social life.

whereas fletch is died in the wool eagles, who we gave a shot from the rookie list to.

Collingwood do need to trade Taz though. If I were Collingwood I'd still be thinking a flag is a possibility. They're still in the mix this year and Taz and Rocca aren't firing.
So we would trade away one of the two blokes who could actually elevate us up to the elite level if he performed for an outside midfielder who would offer hardly anything to our side that we dont already have!

doesn't make sense

Not sure why any team paid teens for those two duds. Maybe Taz could edge inside top 10, but it depends who really wants him. Reports are that this draft is a good one, maybe even as good as the Judd/Ball/Hodge draft.
Can u name a good key position player that was taken in the 2001 draft???

Polak - Hale were top 10 picks who are still struggling to make an impact at AFL level

U can take ur chances on a kid who may never deliver, or take ur chances with taz who u know can deliver when he is on song.

I'd prefer to keep Taz. Quality key forward (and that Taz is) are harder to come by than ball magnet midfielders (that said, Fletcher is a very good footballer, and I'd take him any day).

Thats the big IF about Tarrant though isn't it

His 2004,2005 and 2006 seasons have been less than productive as a key forward so clubs run the risk of him being another "Ottens".

Highly paid but with little return on the field as he is rated on past deeds and not on current performances

At least with Fletcher you know your getting a consistently elite performer as a midfielder having averaged over 22 possesions in his last 3 years.

FWIW

The trade will never happen, i doubt fletcher is going anywhere. He was one of the main reasons his childhood mate Stenglien returned to W.A

A good point. But that's the risk you take - what if it came off?

If this thread was about a key position player, we might be interested.

West Coast might consider trading agressively for a guy from the Brown or Hall mould.... but Tarrant is just a tall rangey flanker, and he would be an overpriced luxury to us. How does Tarrant improve our side when we have guys like Embley & Staker and Hunter already doing quite well in that role? And to suggest they dont, or Tarrant might provide something extra shows that you know little about our structure. The only thing we lack is a 'power' forward that can take a pack mark with 3 guys hanging off him, and that Tarrant aint.

The only trading between WC and Collingwood this year will be for Gardiner, who you guys need a hell of a lot more than we need Tarrant.

of course it is a big risk, if taz had kept his form up he would be one of the best players in the league, u will never ever say that about c.fletcher

22 touches, when u dont really use the ball that well aint that special.........he is a useful player but swan is playing a similar role much better ATM.

c.fletcher wont deliver west coast a flag, but a flying c.tarrant just may well give them the edge that they need he would love to be on the end of some quality delivery from the likes of judd, kerr, cuz etc. instead of licka, r.shaw, obree etc who never hit him on his leads!

Collingwood would rather go for a 30yo Aker then Fletcher and even that wouldnt happen for Chris Tarrant, we will keep our over-rated dud and you keep Fletcher, its funny how NO ONE has respect for Tarrant anymore yet he seems to be a prominent player in a possible top 4 team  :thumbsu:

u have ur power forward in Lynch, he would play the Rocca role which allows taz to be the mobile forward.........dont think staker or embley look like they will ever get close to being 200+mark players in a season!

Dic kwad:

I have clearly said that Collingwood do not need Fletcher for the exact reasons you have outlined. I have at no stage advocated Collingwood should entertain such a deal.

Not relevant to anything I have said.

U can take ur chances on a kid who may never deliver, or take ur chances with taz who u know can deliver when he is on song.
You seem to have assumed I have said that this year is a good draft so we should not go for Taz and try get a KPP (of which Taz isn't anyway) from the draft.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzz!

I said: The Eagles do not need Taz. Collingwood should trade him and try to get a high pick and go for the best onballer possible since this year will be a good draft.
