When you have 4 players good enough for the front 3 positions and you sell 2 of them and another does their ACL, you know this is the case all transfer window and you don't replace any of them, you deserve a 0-0 draw at home against a team from Kazakhstan. Might even be better if they don't qualify as would get ugly in the tournament proper.

That starting Celtic line up should have won comfortably. No excuses on transfers. But yeah probably just as well they didn’t qualify

A 31yo Forrest was the 5th choice winger at Celtic under Ange and only got a new contract because we needed warm bodies to fill the home grown quota for the champions league.

Fast forward 3 years and because they have sold everyone and not bothered to replace them, we have to use Maeda as a centre forward, and Forrest at 34yo becomes our 1st choice winger.

Its 99% on transfers and the board. Rodgers style is unimaginative but his hands well and truly tied here.

If you have 80 million cash in the bank you wouldn't expect your club to invest some of that* to give yourself the best possible chance?

Small teams park the bus, they do it in the SPFL, if you don't have the attacking quality then you don't break them down. Simple as that.

* Striker 10 million, Winger 5 million, Winger 5 million. Not too much to ask basically what we have taken in for Kuhn and the Frimpong sell on.

Yeah but in the SPFL you have no challenger this year.

Celtic out to Kazakhstan opponents.
Rangers beaten 9-1 to Brugge

Can we end this nonsense that appears from time to time they'd be EPL teams if they left Scottish football. Average size fish in a small pond.

If they were in the Prem they'd attract, and retain, much better. Plus playing better opposition every week would raise their level. They've been stuck in an league which is in an ever increasing downward spiral for the 20 years.

If they went to the PL they would be getting 100 million plus tv money a season compared to 5 million tv money a season to spend on players. Plus increased money from sponsorship, ticket sales etc. Celtic Park would be like the 5th biggest stadium in the PL and they would fill it out every week. If they had access to PL tv money Celtic would be a Villa level club minimum.

Scotland needs to look at Belgian, Dutch leagues for ideas. But perhaps the issue is a smaller population than them, hence smaller money.
Maybe Scotland need to go back to a 10 team league. Hopefully they go on to do well in Europa league somehow. But won't do well against Villa, Nottingham who will both be trying very hard to win it unless they get into relegation trouble which is unlikely.

That’s quite the flight duration and time zone adjustment between the European countries and Kazakstan, for whoever draws them on an away trip.

TV money always going to be an issue but Celtic should be operating like Club Brugge are now. Brugge have sold players for 10-20 million and bought new players for 5-10 million. Celtic are selling players for 10-20 million but not doing the reinvesting part until it is too late and you are out of the champions league, costing yourself even more money, or like last year spending too much on players at the very end of the window as the selling clubs know you are desperate for signings and the club have no plan B. The problem Celtic have is the board can downsize the team and still win the league because everyone else is useless. There is a theory amongst the supporters that the Celtic board don't want Celtic to be too far ahead of Rangers as it kills off the interest in the domestic games completely, part tin foil hat but also part truth I would say.
