Strategy Changes against the Swans Rnd4 - Preuss and Stretch for ANB and KK

It feels like the run to the prelim last year was a dream, and we have woken up and we are back to the same old dees.
Last few years bombing inside 50 inefficiently and huge space out the back have killed us. We fixed it for a while, but again dream like, I forget how they fixed it.

I don’t understand how we are in this same position again, it’s seriously a form of torture.

I also honestly think some players are rattled after the eagles belting.

Maybe the game plan is too high risk/reward and we need to tweak it.
Collingwood did that against Richmond, played smart keepings off - but if they do that against the eagles they will lose. If they can change their game plan for their opposition WHY CANT WE.

So my change for the swans would be, change the game plan.

Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result is what everybody?

In: forward and defensive structures.

Out: whatever has been happening the past 3 weeks.

You just hope that Sydney are hot garbage and we can somehow snag a win.

We just don’t have anyone to bring in that will make a meaningful impact or improve our structures behind the ball. We must take Frost to Sydney for Franklyn (unless TMac wants to do it).

The Sunday to Thursday interstate turnaround won’t help anyone playing at Casey this week either.

I generally like making as few changes as possible so I’m going to run with no changes again.

KK and ANB will need to have a good game soon.

Wouldn't put TMac near Franklin at the moment, he's not moving at all well. Wouldn't surprise me if the club brought Garlett in and crossed their fingers he feels like trying.

I think it will be Ronke that has a field day.

He's not a no-namer but just has that kind of X-factor that our slow as treacle defence won't be able to contain.

Nah who's the prick we let slip... from casey he will kick a bag

Papley that's it

Where's Stretch at, injured or unfit? His last game before injury last year was one of his best, we could sure use someone who can run all day

Individually its hard for the coaches to set up a game plan when the majority of the list is either out of form or injured

Brayshaw, Melksham, Oliver and Salem get a pass for the year so far. They haven’t been great but they’ve looked afl standard compared to everyone else who has been varying degrees of poor and awful.
I’d consider T Smith for T McDonald at this stage. He can also be second tuck to help Weed.

I can't explain it, but I'm actually bullish about our chances next week. Given how unfit we seem to be, and how our game is built around contests, the SCG should be the ideal ground for us. Obviously we have a complex v Swans, but I saw them v the Crows and they were flat! Devoid of options. Good thing they won this week (unconvincingly) so all the heat is just on us.

Needless to say, the game will be a spectacle..

I'd look at it the other way. If 2/3 of the list is in poor form, what are the coaches / club doing that is preventing people from playing at their best? No one turns up wanting to play like a dog's body. Has training been off the pace needed? Are they over-coaching the players instead of letting them play instinctively? Are the players being asked to play a game style that is no longer effective? Other than the obvious part that it seems like at least 5 or 6 guys in the match day squad are coming in terribly underdone.

I think you're being generous to the coaches - our hard working "lock it in" gamestyle took a huge hit with the new rules being introduced, and yet we're still trying to execute that plan with half-fit squad. I'd say they didn't realize how far we'd slipped back from the pack until we started playing and getting our pants handed to us.

No I completely agree it always falls on the coaches to be responsible for players performance. I was just pointing out it would be more worrying if the majority of the blokes were playing well and we were losing. Atleast there's tangible improvement to be had from the majority of the list.

But 100% I agree the coaches need to take blame. The backline look like they are too busy trying to be standing in their designated area than playing the game
