Campbell Brown - "Casey's problem is too many of them get sucked into contest and when the ball spits out they get torn apart"

Awesome.
Stating the bleeding obvious. Is that our gameplan or we just got stupid campaigners for players cause part of me goes let them play man on man but that wont work if they all get sucked in anyway plus our pace is so slow that opp will just run harder and faster to spread. Put Jones in the pocket and let someone quicker play on the wing but Jones isnt crafty enough or footy smart to get to the right spots and cover his lack of pace. but its better than leaving him on the wing he got cut up all game and kept getting stuck in no mans land.

You do realise the post was about Casey not Melbourne

yep we might not have had a serious look at why we got flogged by the eagles in the prelim, but you can bet your arse the other coaches certainly did. they've all clued on now to what the smart coaches already knew, that we get sucked into the contest all the time with no leg speed to play catch up defensively and an outdated high zone defence that can be picked apart by good fast ball movement.

I've completely changed my view now. Casey are 56 points down already early in the 3rd. It's the exact same as the afl side. Ball flies from one end to the other for easy scores. Too much focus on one type of player. The coaching of this club is a disaster at the moment. We have stood still and everyone else has moved forward

Yeah and it's shit. We are getting spanked in the VFL
To be fair though the AFL team has got 10 of their players. Tried watching it but VPN not working properly n freezes every 5 seconds. But yeah its either you realise you cant execute the game plan without the 22 you want to use and change it so its a system any personnel can execute then let the stars do their business and add the tricks on top. I seriously ****ing hope we arent coached to all go in then just bomb it long and push right up that if it gets out we are ****ed. You love ya lists how many of our players could hit up a 20-30m pass 9/10. maybe our foot skills are rubbish and the game plan is worked around that cause rather turn it over deep in attack than on the wing cause campaigners cant kick. but having zone too high again with no leg speed to push back. Either way gameplan isnt working exactly like start of last year

A complete ****ing disaster from top to bottom, MFC shouldn’t be allowed to appoint our own coaches the last 3 efforts have been comical

I’m concerned that TMac will come out of the side with an injury and we’ll need to throw Max deep forward rather than behind the ball where we need him.
Max or Pruess couldn't be any worse than TMac.

We have to try something different. However watching a few other games this weekend including Casey, confirms what I've been saying for 12 months or so. We have too many similar players and not enough outsude run. Even GC would chop us up atm because they are at least seriously quick. Can't change our gameplan to a quick running style, when we have hardly any quick hard runners on our list. And the one's we have can't hit a target.

A mini rebuild is the only answer tbh. We need speed and outside run with decent skill. Really surprised we didn't go down that path the year before and even more shocked we chose more in and under types this year. I'm pretty much convinced we need to write this year off and get what we need in draft and trade next offseason. One preaseson we can turn this around, but I'm fairly convinced this year is lost..

Who would you chuck up for trade? Reckon this would be Jones and Lewis' last season got a heap we could delist so i reckon we need to trade something of value to get a few more higher picks in. Its probably a terrible time to drop a season with Coniglio up as free agent and Gresham out of contract. would be looking at Dunkley from dogs and obviously Jack Martin

I agree - that’s why I’m concerned! I still think TMac is carrying something rather than just bad form though.

This game plan has had the same flaw for 2 seasons - we’ve all been crying out for some midfield leg speed for 2 years. Even forward line leg speed is vital if we want to keep the ball locked in.

Lewis, Salem, Hibberd, Jetta - we aren’t exactly blessed with run off half back either (Hibberd was an exception until this year).

Throwing Gawn forward to increase our efficiency isn’t going to make us any quicker when the ball is coming out of our forward line either - we really need him floating back.

I we just don’t seem to have a plan B, and I’m concerned it’s largely because we don’t have any options.

I Don’t think we’re allowed to trade our first pick this year anyway. Coniglio would be perfect if we could afford him but I suspect the Giants will match any bid after their clearout last year.

Yeah that's a tough one. I think Salem, Oliver, Jetta, Brayshaw and Gawn are off limits. Viney, Weid, May and Lever won't be going anywhere you'd think. Harmes is a great improver and someone we should keep. Outside of that, we could look at anyone tbh. Jones and Lewis will hopefully retire which will free up some $$ and solve some speed issues. I'd be chasing one of the GWS boys really hard. Whitfield, Kelly and Coniglio are all exactly what we need. We're obviously going to have a decent pick, so package that up with ANB and we'd be close. Just have to convince one of them to choose us..

I’d float Petracca for sure, he’s a lot more hype than substance at this point
