Ins- Hugh McCluggage, Zac Bailey, Logan Morris, Darcy Gardiner.

Outs- James Tunstill, Linc McCarthy, Daniel Annable, Zane Zakostelsky.

I'd like to bring in Joyce(195cm) but can not see who to logically leave out. Will Logan Morris definitely be available? I'd like to leave Annable in as well but I have the same problem, who else goes out?

dont see why we would drop zakostelsky
Even with Gardiner back we are a key tall defender down. (Depending on how the Saints line up). Unfortunately I think it might be Gallop who gets dropped. Can’t play Morris, Allen, Draper and Gallop in the same side. Other option would be Allen to full back or even Gallop.

Possibly both Gallop and ZZ go out and Joyce comes in?

Out: Tunstill, ZZ, Annable, Allen or Gallop, Lohmann or McCarthy
In: Gardiner, Bailey, McCluggage, Morris and Joyce

Would require one of the small backs to play up the field but gives us the 3 tall backs. Would love to give ZZ games but we need to select the best 23 and get some wins

Draper looked great up forward so he can spend time there with Morris and one of Allen or Gallop

Harsh on the guys dropped but they’re just outside the 23

With Payne probably gone for the season and us really needing to develop another KPD, ZZ getting a run of games seems really logical to me. Our worst nightmare was Harris getting injured and his loss through suspension has proven how vulnerable we are for back talls. ZZ has shown real glimpses and we need to get games into him, not just for the now but also the future.

I get it that he's athletic and has potential . I just don't see that he has much idea of how to defend at the moment and that Joyce would be reliable in games that we need to win.

Not knocking him per se but he seemed to be running around in circles yesterday for minimal result. One of the reasons they tore us up. But not up in arms or anything if they decide to persist.

Outs- Tunstill,Coleman,Allen
Ins- Bailey,Clugga,Gardiner

Kiddy is lacking confidence and fitness.Allen just needs to regain some pace and strength. We are able to put our 25 Finals forward line back together .Tunstill not quite there.

Gardiner - ZZ- Answerth
Wilmot - Lester -Zorko

Berry - Clugga- Fletcher
Fort - Dunkley - Neale

Bailey - Gallop- Lohmann
Cameron - Morris - Rayner

Bruce - Draper - McCarthy - Ashcroft -
Ashcroft

I’m with you. Pick whoever is more likely to help us win the next match. Harris will be back in 3 weeks, so if a run of games helps ZZ without a huge risk (compared to Joyce) then that could be beneficial next time a key back goes down.

I’m also not wedded to picking Gallop. He is an amazing story of 2025 (and got a medal to show for it), but he’s kicked 0 goals in 6 of his 8 games. Sure he brings more than that, but he’s still got plenty of development required.

I love Gallop but he's been a bit lethargic in both games this year and maybe the short pre season on top of his big first year has just proved a bit much at the moment.

Still you wouldn't say Allen has been any better.

Nope - but unfortunately for Gallop, Allen is the somewhat proven big name recruit. He will get the first opportunity to prove he’s worthy of the position.

Also Annable. Would probably be playing every week at any other team but its not the end of the world for him if hes just depth thus year and developing in the VFL

Only one game but really liked what Annable showed, medium/long term I wonder who turns out the better player Annable or L.Ashcroft.

He played 6 senior games, and the VFL has a heap of byes in it, how did he have a big year?

Gallop has a big build, and is reasonable tall. He's a power key forward and has the athletic traits of one. He's not as fast as Jed Walter, and not as nimble.

All of Allen, Gallop and Morris are similar types of forwards, with similar skills and traits. They probably would benefit from entries that Hawkins got at Geelong or Kennedy got at West Coast. But we don't play to create space in the forward 50 for our KPF's to lead in to. What we saw on the weekend is how we kick in to our forward 50, bomb it in and hope for contested mark or bring the ball to ground.

Well he was 19 , ended up playing as a key forward in a GF doing a lot of bullocking work after not much of a prep in terms of games.

I'd call that a big first year . Just one pre season under his belt and not that long after into another one .

I wouldn't be too hard on him. Who knows what he's got with the right development.

If ZZ is going to get picked the Lions need to pick a position for him. Learning two or three roles at this level is too hard. So if he is a tall defender then he may be better off going back to the reserves and develop in that role because, as has been mentioned, something went awry last night in terms of manning up. Could end up great though.
IMO a reason that Gallop kept his place at the end of last season was that he and Morris looked complementary. Gallop is another that is still learning his role and is now matching up on some of the best key backs in the game. Sending him back to VFL might be a retrograde step at this stage although I have no doubt he would fight his way back through sheer effort if that becomes the case.
