Changes for Round 10

name them

No problems.

Fletcher, Stenglein & Hansen have already had their cards marked.

Now its time to start making long term decisions on:

Brett Jones (who was fine last year);
Mark Nickoski;
Matt Priddis;
Matt Rosa;
Mark Seaby;
Brent Staker;

These are all 50+ game players who are marginal based on everything we have seen this year. The decision needs to be made as to whether they are starting 22 for the future or whether they are Josh Wooden material, only to be played when we have specific injuries to fill specific gaps - otherwise moved on.

They all probably won't get much better than what we see now .... the coaches need to make a judgement (as Woosh indicated in his post game address)....

In addition, some heat might start to go on the Q stick - although we probably need to settle him in an actual spot for a while first.

My Priddis reference was not to blame him, solely, for our loss but to further point out your playing of favourites. You named 10 guys specifically for being shit and you missed Priddis who was almost the worst offender in our side for hitting the opposition with his disposals - he was dreadful but hey, he isnt in the EA group of those who should be hung every time we lose so ....

If constantly saying a bloke isnt our worst player is favouritism.

What is constantly degrading that same player at every level on every thread possible.?

Good god are you a relative too?

I have CONSISTENTLY said that Priddis isnt good enough against a backdrop of unadulterated man love for him based on his effort and attitude rather than his ability. It is good to see that my efforts are starting to have an effect and his performances are now critically appraised more often (rather than just accepted cos we like his style).

I have focused on Priddis because our biggest weakness is midfield, by the length of a long straight, and he plays 70%+ of every game in there. He can't tag and has no attacking skills, as such he is a big part of the problem - no-one was questioning that before and I simply tried to change a perception.

I can't help it if you abject understanding of footy clouds your view.

My point with EA was that he decided to do a detailed analysis of our weaknesses assessing half the sides failure but, again, he failed to mention our number 2 starting mid who did little bar a clinic on ball butchery - I was simply asking him to open his eyes.... I have given up on the clinically blind.

Which of these players should be dropped for next week?

Jones certainly, I would also drop Rosa and maybe Seaby depending on if we believe 1 ruckman is enough.

My point remains, that we need to continue critically analysing who we are backing in to be part of our team in the future. Just dropping Ebert and S Selwood to bring back Stinger seems to lack any direction.... thats what I was responding to.

So who are you bringing in for Rosa, Jones and possibly Seaby?

Assuming LeCras is available.

Any more questions, without contributions, and I will have to start charging a consulting fee. :p

LeCras for Jones.

If replacing Rosa with like for like, I would give Houlihan his chance.

Seaby is trickier. If they go with only one specialist ruckman, then I would pick an additional running player - I would like to see Swift but maybe they dont think he is ready. Hopefully they won't get worried by the number of mids at the Blues and try bringing in more taggers, we need to go the other way (in general) and becoming more attacking - Carltons mids only work forward......

i dont have time or can be bothered searching for it but can someone tell me why lecras got dropped??
cheers.

Id bring Stinga in if he is feeling up to the task after a few weeks out. Coaching staff would know wether he has gained back his desire to be apart of our midfield again. Obviously if they still think he doesnt have that desire then id hesitate bringing him in, I think the direction would be to have a bloke capable of tagging one of there dangerous midfielders.

It would also allow Adam greater flexibility as he is the only designated tagger in the team atm, might help him be able to attack more if Stinga is playing a tagging role well. IMO Ebert doesnt seem to warrent selection anyway compared to other blokes playing well in the WAFL and LeCras needs to come back into the side.

I understand that getting games into Ebert is a good thing though so mabye LeCras for Seaby/Rosa. Apparently Rosa got 20odd disposals in that game and I cant remember seeing him once. I was watching most of the game through two fingers in an attempt to cover my eyes though.

I thought you might enjoy discussing the thread topic.

In terms of my contribution:

Too many underachievers against Collingwood to single out individuals. I'd reverse the forced late change.

Out: Jones
In: LeCras

Also, I'd be happy to see Houlihan get a run at the expense of Rosa. Houlihan's contract expires at the end of this season (I believe) and we run the risk of not establishing if he can play or not, by the time he's due for renewal / trade / delisting.

IN: LeCras, Houlihan, Hunter
OUT: B.Jones, Nicoski, Seaby

Back Cox in to bounce back and carry the Ruck with support from Lynch so Seaby back to the WAFL even though his form hasn't been too bad. LeCras obviously back in, Brett Jones probably didn't do enough to hold his spot. Nicoski's form hasn't been great but seems to be getting continued support from the coaching staff. Houlihan deserves another crack. Swift and NicNat not far away. If we were omitting players based on team rules and not reputation Wirrapanda (as good a player as he has been) would be playing WAFL this weekend but he wont get dropped. Ebert had little impact but keep him in. Butler looked injured and carrying a big bandage on his leg so he may be rested this week but if fit keep him in.

Interesting to see wether Worsfold cuts some more senior players again. He might tout the same line after the StKilda game and see this game as an abhoration and not make many changes (except for LeCras). I dont think there are too many more senior players we could cut though unless we want to pretty much tank.

IN: Lecras Stenglien Hunter
OUT: Seaby Ebert ?

Stenglien to play as tagger, leaving Adam to play a more attacking role. We dont need 2 ruckman against Carlton, Hunter will give us more height up forward to expose Carlton's lack of height in defence even more so that Waite is out.

There are 2 keys to this game. 1 Glass to stop Fev, 2 for our midfield to at least break even. If we do this we will win. $4.5 for us is pretty tempting odds.

I can't see the point of bringing Ebert in if you're going to get rid of him after one game, where the whole team played poorly. Got to stick with the young players for at least a few weeks.

Nicoski, Brett Jones, Seaby and Rosa would be the older players in a bit of trouble this week I'd say.

Personally i like Jmac's attack on the footy and would rather him in the team over Nico and Rosa. I think Houlihan could be a welcome inclusion against Carlton, let him run around the wings with Kade Simpson.

Ins: Lecras, Hunter (or Schofield),Jmac, Houlihan
Outs: Seaby, B.Jones, Nico, Rosa

I think this is the tough part for the selectors. We already have dropped players including Fletch, Stinger & Hansen who were walk up starts at the beginning of the year, then you take out Staker. All replaced by kids, if you take out 2 or 3 others vets and replace with more kids, then we could just collapse under the weight of inexperience particularly if many of the remaining vets are only just going....

I am all for playing kids but you can see how these decisions arent easy.

Exactly right, and im not sure if we are on the cusp of playing too many kids or if we have crossed the line and require some experience back into the team. Id say that you can have X number of kids in the team, our problem is that 4 of them were midfielders meaning most of the kids in one position. Couple that with blokes like Kerr and Cox having off nights and its not a good recipe.

IMO we would do worse than to put Stinga back into the team for one of the young midfielders.

I didnt get a chance to watch this game (i was really pissed off before hand, but kind of happy i missed it now!), but based on some highlights (lowlights) ive seen and the other games this season, Nicoski has to go.

5 of the back 6 are performing (Wirra, Glass, Brown, Mackenzie, Hurn) and he is letting us down by getting caught in possession or making the wrong decision.

Apart from that, I wouldnt want many other changes to be made this week (except for LeCras in and Seaby out as well). No Point making 7 changes and creating further instability.
