What will the changed be for round 3?

Burns will more than likley be back in but do any of Wakelin or J.Cloke need to come in?
With Hale, Thompson, Petrie, McIntosh able to go forwad and Rocca probably coming back I think one of them should come in, preferably Wakelin who will be refreshed.

Who to drop? Well O'Brien even though probably our worst player Sunday would be unlucky to be dropped. Him and Heath Shaw are our only pure small defenders in the side, with Johnson, Swan and Lonie playing different roles this year.

I think Lockyer and Davis are the two most likely to be ommitted. Depending on how Malthouse feels Morrison may deserve a call up or he may even debut Pendlebury. I think we should give them another game to back it up though.

So IN: Burns, Wakelin
OUT: Davis, Lockyer

B: H.Shaw, S.Prestigiacomo, J.Clement
HB: N.Maxwell, S.Wakelin, N.Buckley

C: R.Lonie, D.Swan, B.Carracella

HF: D.Thomas, T.Cloke, C.Tarrant
F: A.Didak, A.Rocca, S.Burns

FOLL: J.Fraser, S.O'Bree, B.Johnson

INT: B.Holland, P.Licuria, G.Richards, H.O'Brien

EMG: C.Morrison, J.Cloke, T.Lockyer

You have to ask whether we functioned better without Wakelin because either
a) the small defense works better in todays game or
b) it was just better suited to Hawthorns midget forward setup

Wakelin and Burns, possibly Pendlebury chances for IN's (although you wouldnt expect MM to make too many changes)

O'Brien, Lockyer, H Shaw possible outs

I dont think Muzz will be far off it with his guess

Im not too worried about the changes for round3, but harry will probably be dropped for burns or wakes..

BUT who is going to be dropped for r.shaw and rusling when their both fit and firing?

there is no obvious choice?

Drop Davis?

Do people not realise that the modern game is built around speed and we have next to none?

He might have been quiet Sunday but he was good in round one and given the way the game is played he's definitely worth persevering with. Lockyer's got to be in the gun and in spite of them all being useful at times how many of the likes of Burns, H.Shaw, Lockyer, O'Bree etc, the blokes that get a bit of it but aren't quick or damaging by foot, can you carry in one team?

I am not concerned about Kangas having too many tall forwards as most are duds.

Burns who excels against the Kangaroos to come in and maybe O'Brien to be dropped as Lockyer is the golden child

jlc

Burns will come in and Wakelin probably will as well , given Rocca will most likely play for the Kanga's and that's a perfect match-up for him.
Harry might be unlucky just like he was at times against Dixon yesterday and be given a rest , don't know who the other out will be maybe Shaw despite another ordinary Lockyer performance.

i think at this stage, being a squad for monday:
IN: Burns, Wakelin, Pendlebury, J Cloke
OUT: O'Brien
ill get back to you on the weekend with a proper in and out, but i tell you one thing, a team like the kangaroos is a pretty good team to debut young pendles (is that his nickname, or is there a better one?), not because i think they're an easybeat, not at all, they'll be a tough match, but because of the way they play.

heater's workrate must be really pleasing the match commitee, to back up two games in two days and play well in the 2nd, harder match, thats gotta be on the coaches' minds.

Football is about gettin the pill.

Davis can barely get his own ball, he is not worth having out there.

And he is only quick when getting a handball recieve and running into an open goal, never quick on the chase thats for sure.

No mate, football WAS about getting the pill.

Nowadays, it's about speed and running into space. Davis does it. There's blokes on the list that do it better, absolutely - and Thomas in his first year is one of them - but you've got to keep Leon in there for that reason. Obviously you do need some blokes that can win the contested footy but you need more than tha tnow.

We aren't too slow, the move of Johnson and Lonie in the mid/wings makes a world of difference. Also the increased rotations between Lica/O'Bree/Swan/Holland/Buckley/Didak/Thomas/Lockyer all through the midfield means they are fresher and able to cover more ground. This may not make much difference to speed but when they are able to cover more ground there will be more options which means less time holding up the ball.
And of course kicking it longer and using the first options and being generally more creative makes the slowest players look fast.

Now why are we wanting to drop Neon Leon Davis?
At the end of the day, he'll be telling Mick, I played half a game, had 8 possesions, 3 tackels and 2 goals.
What more do we want from little Leon?

Davis should be kept in. even on his quiet days he kicks his 2-3 goals.

Lockyer and O'bree havent been lookin too good so far this season. Lockyer hasnt been at his best, nowhere near it, and obree seems to have no problem finding the ball, but plenty of problems hitting targets.

Licuria has also had a couple of bad games although i couldnt see him getting dropped. He had 7 clangers on sunday.

I think our young midfielders were great on sunday, swan, johnson, lonie, didak, thomas pretty much controlled the game. Good to see.

I think some of the people on here are being a bit harsh on O'Bree.

He can get plenty of the ball, and people seem to assume he hasn't kicked well on the weekend because of his reuptation.

I was at the game, and I'm not syaing his disposal was great, but it was 100% better than years gone by.

Buckly had some very ordinary disposals by anybodys standard (both by hand and foot) and nobody said has said a thing.

the problem with obree is not his accuracy, it's the trajectory of the ball. He kicks lollipops. Whillst they do eventually (and i emphasise the word eventually) reach their tacket, they take that long to get there that interception and spoils are a frequent occurence at the end of his passes.

Yeah i know what you mean. But i still think because of his reputation, he will do one bad kick and everyone jumps down his throat.

On the weekend OB hit plenty of targets and yes. Yes he missed a couple (or as you said put them subject to an easy spoil) but so did a few others.

I just think he gets a raw deal that's all. IMO easily should be in our best 18 every week if he continues way he is going.
