Paparone! I like the idea of seeing him and Mayes on the field to get games into them (then fast forward three years when they are key players in the team and stars of the comp)

I will be surprised if Paparone gets a start this week, maybe next though.

I personally don't think he will spend much time in the seniors this year, might not even get a chance. My post was not to predict what changes the club will make, more just opinion based.

Let him tear it up on the wing ;)

Tarrant and Hansen aren't particularly threatening, Petrie is extremely inconsistent. Nonetheless, we NEED to play three talls in defence. Voss doesn't seem to want to play three KPDs with Maguire out, but i think it's really playing with fire- see Lester vs Jenkins. Lester did well, but you can't bank on guys to win mismatches consistently. Also, I wasn't a fan of Yeo vs May on the weekend.
I totally disagree with this. Both these players are AFL players, so they are very competent. If they arent contained properly then we're in for a crappy arvo. We cannot underrate these players, nonetheless their are better forwards, but still I think every forward every week should be seen as thretaning.

I agree with you re: May vs Yeo. Since I couldn't watch the match I though May was a freak, but after watching the match I saw he was playing against a smaller opponent who was always a slim chance of winning the match up.

Ins: all the kids cause it makes me feel hopeful
Out: all the experienced players of whom I know more about than the coaches

My changes:
Out: Polec, Yeo
In: Harwood, Maguire

McKeever sub because I actually think a KPF as a sub could work well. If they plan to play a tall defence with Brown and Martin as the talls (which they will- Grima, Thompson, Firrito play for them) then our smaller players such as Mayes, Zorks, McGrath and Green can cause havoc. Then we sub Martin like for like with McKeever.
If they are coping with our smalls then we bring on McKeever, another tall option, that can work in our favour. And if we are being monstered in defence then McKeever goes back to help. Just my thoughts that although a KPP, McKeever would make a good sub.
This is assuming McGrath will start forward.

I'd drop Golby for Docherty (and as usual, Polks for a number of reserves) but chopping and changing when not really a structural-related or enforced change more than once or twice is usually too much.
Also with a defence-oriented player like Harwood in the team it could release Golby in to more of a rebound role that he's actually good at. If Maguire can't get up then Lester would be my choice instead to play on Hansen. I actually thought he beat Jenkins. Two goals is par for a ruck/forward like Jenkins and 18/19 effective possessions and some very good defensive work is enough to get Lester the points.

But you don't know about any of the experienced players more than the co...oh...I see what you did there.

What I would like

In - Harwood, Docherty, Barlett

Out - Yeo, Golby, Polec

What I expect

In - Docherty

Out - Polec

Yeah, it was subtle, but if you read between the lines...

OUT: Leuenberger  for Longer.
Achilles. Etihad Carpark. Nope  Only play here twice more in 2013. Give him the week off. Too valuable a commodity.

OUT: McKeever for Cornelius.
We need another pure goal kicker for the fast ground. It's now or never for Ace. Could kick 6 or have 2 kicks for the game o_O

OUT: Polec for Karnezis
Like for like.

OUT: McGrath for Lester
McGrath Struggling. Lester to take one of Hansen or Tarrant if Maguire doesn't come up.

I find myself agreeing with you.

Leuenberger out to avoid Etihad is a big call though. Especially as the midfield are still learning his taps again.

Everything else I don't actually mind. I want to see McKeever get another run at it, but it's a good game for Ace to shine in.

Out Polec for Karnezis

Out McKeever for Cornelius we need to give him a extended run in the seniors to get his confidence up.

But of course, I'm usually right o_O

Voss and co. will play him, I wouldn't.

Really hope Polec pulls up ok. Hasn't really had a fair crack at it, but every time I see him play he exhibits traits of a really good player; both skills wise and determination / appetite for the contest. Doesn't shirk the contest, no matter who or where it is. Needs strength & endurance work though. Hope we re-contract him ASAP.

Does anyone eles think is time to drop Martin I'm not saying he hasn't been good I just want to see Lisle or Paparone get a game would play Mckeever down back on one of Tarrant or Hansen.

I think Karnezis should come in for McGrath, and Banfield for Polkinghorne, we need goals and pace in the forward line with Mayes, Banfield, and Green, I think we can worry the Kangaroos.

And bring Lester in for Polec and play him on the wing.

I must say, I'm surprised at how many people are calling for wholesale changes. Like one or two others have stated, I'm only expecting minimal changes, with either Polec forced out with injury or possibly one change for structural purposes.

I'm struggling to understand how bringing in players with practically no experience (or players with very minimal experience playing against men) at the expense of seasoned AFL players with 4-5+ years experience will aide us in winning games. Sure, it would be great for their development etc, but I think a little perspective needs to be shown considering our match committee does not have a history of doing so. Don't get me wrong, I'm just as excited as some of the names being thrown around, but I equally don't want them thrown in collectively.

I get the impression some are throwing up names on the basis of their projected abilities in 3-4 years time. North is a very seasoned side with a lot of mature bodies, so I wouldn't be inclined to play too many guys with less than 10 games experience.

OUT: Yeo, Polec
IN: Harwood, Karnezis

Polks the sub again (can come on as a mid, defensive forward or leading small/medium forward depending on need), McKeever to start back and move around depending on the situation.

I think one of Yeo or Golby needs a break, and I'm leaning towards Yeo as I feel Golby has a better chance of changing the outcome if he's on. Harwood an obvious like for like there.

Karnezis in if Polec doesn't pull up, I'd expect they'll rest him anyways. Karny needs to play at least the first half and a bit, don't mind if they sub him, but start him and let him practice and use his midfield craft at AFL level.

I'd start Merrett > Petrie, McKeever > Tarrant, Patfull > Hansen. I debated with the latter two but the idea is that they can swap opponents if the bleeding gets too heavy. Thomas is the nightmare matchup for me in this one.

Wholesale changes aren't going to help at this point. I think both of the above work. Clarke may be elevated but I don't feel this game is going to be good for him to come into. If we're going to bring him in soon, let him come in on home turf against the Dees with Merrett taking Clark.

The one call that really perplexes me is McGrath. We have precious little in the cupboard when it comes to long term experience. He can go forward, back, or into the middle. I actually prefer him down back, for his ability to pick good options going forward, and his long, flat passing. Would be my preferred option to kick in from the goal square, unless Doc was to come in. If you're going to back anyone to turn their form, surely its a bloke with the experience of having done so before. All the talk about JB should've reminded a few people of that.

On Stefan Martin, was he injured on Saturday night? I thought I saw him with ice on the bench on his ankle.

A "experienced" player failing to impact games and get his hands on the Pill...It surprises you why people are questioning his spot in the team?... moloney, Adcock, Merrett, Patful, 3 R's, Brown...McGraths "experience" loss wont be a big loss

Ash "Ooh Ahh Where's the Ball" McGrath is under the pump because he has had three terrible games on the trot. Basically he is struggling to get his hands on the ball often enough to make a meaningful contribution to the side. In three games he has only had 26 disposals (14 kicks / 12 handballs) and a disposal efficiency of only 58.3% During this same period his defensive game has been rubbish, having laid only 4 tackles in three games!

I understand that Ash McGrath has experience, but that isn't proving to be of much benefit to the side.

Given that we really need to kick a score, my changes would be,

Out: McGrath and Polkinghorne
In: Karnezis and Cornelius (sub)

When playing quality opposition and North are clearly ahead of us, despite their current ladder position, there is no point in Brown kicking 5 goals if the team can only muster 10 to 13 for the game. Against North, anything less than 14 goals is going to be a losing score in my opinion.

I thought Ash showed a big form improvement against the Suns over previous weeks. Not sure dropping him now sends the right message when he is on the improve.

Just my opinion.

I agree and with each week a few more of the team are playing themselves in to form. When you can make an argument for lots of changes, it's probably better to show some restraint; ignore form, trust your opinion on a players ability formed over a few seasons and avoid a knee-jerk reaction.
