Changes for Round 4

My initial reaction was

Out: Garlett, Johnson, Jacobs, Russell, Simpson, Joseph
In: Yarran, O'Hailpin, Hampson, Carrazzo, Scotland, Armfield

After calming down a bit

Out: Jacobs

When he rucked we were smashed in the clearances. This was particularly evident after Kreuzer went off after he cut his head.

In: Hampson

Out: Garlett

He is simply too light and cannot provide the forward line pressure we crave

In: Yarran

I agree.....it's time (if he doesn't play than the rumours I've been hearing will only be strengthened)

Out: Johnson

Under pressure he panics and turns it over, he is a great kick without pressure though.

In: O'Hailpin

Should be on their best forward with the instruction to stop ony. Trornto should be moved onto someone he has the physical capabilities of beating.

Out: Russell

Surely repeated mediocrity cannot be continuously rewarded

In: Scotland

Missed his experience and decision making ability, which Russell clearly lacks

OUT: Johnson, Jacobs, Robbo, Stevens.
IN: Hampson, Scotland, Bannister, Browne.

And strip Stevens of the Vice Captaincy while you're at it. No heart, no guts. Pathetic gutless leader, give it to someone who at least has heart and at least has a go and at least busts their balls ou there.

Reasons: Johnson - too many easy turnovers, and stuff ups when kicking in. Bring back Scotland. Jacobs - too slow, drop him for a week or two, let him get some confidence at winning tap outs, and bring in Hampson who at least will jump and run. Robbo - lost last night, bring in Browne instead. Stevens for Bannister, because at least Bannister has balls and heart, and will actually provide a contest instead of just standing there looking at the ball, and wait for it to fall into his hands. Pathetic.

Hope you guys don't mind an outsiders view on this.

In: O'hAilpin, Fisher, Bannister, Yarran
Out: Jacobs, Johnson, Joseph, Garlett

I think you guys might need O'hAilpin this week. He would give you another option for Hall and I'm not sure who would play on Jolly when he goes forward. As both O'hAilpin and Cloke can ruck and they would offer more around the ground, I would leave out Jacobs. In order to have Cloke spend some time in the ruck, I think another tall forward would be required. So Fisher comes in.

I don't think Joseph would really have a match-up against Sydney as they don't really have the quick crumbing forward, so Bannister's bigger body would be more beneficial. While Yarran for Garlett doesn't need any explaining.

For what it's worth though, I think Chris Johnson will play ahead of Bannister.

Luv the way some are bemoaning the forward pressure by us then putting blame on Garlett.

All opposition create the loose man and run from our forward line bcoz of 1 player and that guy is Cloke, slow as teacle this guy and if he isnt holding his marks and kicking staight he is absolutely useless to us.

I agree with most of the suggestion for the players mentioned to be dropped, but amazed that Cloke hasnt had any scrutiny, bring in Setenta for him and we have a player that could play back, forward and ruck which could also help release Waitey for us, neway just my opinion.

Thanks Mr Chris25. I agree with this.

ins: scotland, o'hailpin/austin, army/bannister

out: joseph, johnson, garlett

i think robbo and garlett should be rested at some stage over the next couple of weeks for their physical well being. this also makes way for Yarran.

i was suprised army wasnt picked for essendon to play on lovett.

would also consider stevo as an out to get some form in the twos, but thats also coz im not a fan...

In: Armfield Bannister O'hAilpin
Out: Garlett Russell Robinson (may need a rest and we need another big man)

I just read the equivalent thread on the Swans and stumbled into fan girl talk masquerading as a footy thread. I must cleanse my soul with an attack on someone to get the sugary memories out of my head.

The General omitting Russell!
Who would have thunk it?

Actually mate i think you have the ins/outs spot on, although i have seen a smidgen of improvement in good ol' JR.

I omitted JR last year, but he hasn't improved on his 2008 and we have some depth that is shiny and new.

Russell might survive because Ratten didn't get his match ups right last night and should have played on him Stanton.

We might bring in some pacy players to play on the smaller SCG when it isn't really needed.

We might need more grunt in Bannister to beat the Swans who like to lock a game down and kill everyone with boredom.

Out of form forwards always play well against us.

Bower or Waite to play on Micky O.

I wonder if Ratten will play Stevens on the half back line again.

Roos exploited Scotland's lack of a defensive side and size by playing ROK on him.

De ja vu?

Stevens shouldn't be allowed to enter the back half again.

After today:

In: Armfield Scotland Jamison(think hell be right)
Out: Garlett, Grigg (limping around may need time int he 2's again), Russell or Robbo.

Would love Jamo in the team this week, as we really don't have anyone capable of matching up on Barry Hall. Setanta must be considered. I was thinking that Garlett might have been dropped for the Essendon game, and even though he kicked 1 last night, he really didn't have an impact on the game. Armfield BOG today, and deserves to come in.

I also wouldn't make wholesale changes either..

In: Armfield, O'Hailpin
Out: Garlett, Grigg

My 22 would be:

Backs: Armfield O'Hailpin Bower
H-Backs: Johnson Thornton Simpson
Centres: Waite Hadley Russell
H-Fowards: Wiggins Cloke Gibbs
Forwards Betts Fevola Houlihan
Rucks: Kreuzer Judd Murphy
I/C: Jacobs Stevens Robinson Joseph

Probably expect some of the first year players to begin to be rested even if form doesnt warrant it, just due to coaching staff trying to make the youngsters last a bit better through the season. That wont be just Carlton specific either.

Going on the reports from the ressies game I sort of hope Hartlett might get a call up.

Maybe Garlett and Robinson to miss.

and we cant drop Wiggins but if someone could get Greg Williams down to training and hand cuff him Wiggo it would be good.

we desperately need someone to play carrazzo role from last year (except without turning the ball over). hopefully armfield can fill this role.

garlett is an obvious drop.

and hopefull ratts will get into Robinsons ear and let him know that he must play smarter footy.

In: Armfield Bannister O'hAilpin
Out: Garlett Russell Robinson (may need a rest and we need another big man)

If we bring in Setanta, where do we play him? not having a go or anything, genuinely interested in what you think.

My changes for next week have to be:

Out: Garlett, Johnson
In: Scotland, O'Halpin

In's:

- Scotland would have to come in this week, we lacked his disposal and leadership, honestly was utterly disappointed for him to be dropped for Essendon game.

- O'Halpin, from all reports been playing ruck and not in Backline but we may see him in this game due to no match up for Barry Hall. He'd be close for selection, most definitely.

Out's:

- Garlett, he's played well the last three games and has done nothing wrong but I think it is time for him to make way and gain some more confidence in the 2's.

- Johnson, people may disagree with this decision here but I honestly think against Essendon he lacked confidence and his decision making was poor which caused him to make a few blunders.
But this may not eventuate but I would say he'd be one of the players they look at for the chop come Sydney match, due to matchups.

Apologies to Armfield - even though he had a blinder today according to all reports, he may still find himself spending a bit more time in the Reserves.

Thoughts?

Play him on Barry Hall. Thornton, Bower and Waite will be well and truly fighting out of their weight range should they have to play on him.

Armfield must come in. We need to start rewarding hard work, good games in the two's and passion ( no idea if he's got any) for the club.

Players like Stevens, Russel and Johnson have no reason to be rewarded with selections but I guess we can't drop everyone.

Yarran shouldn't play this week: Sydney are a "tough" side and Yarran doesn't seem to have this quality at the moment. Scotland I think needs to come back in just for that experience that will be required against the bigger bodies of Sydney.

I'd like to see Setanta come in for Jacobs (just give him a rest and let him dominate a few VFL games) just to take care of the bigger forwards that Sydney possess.

Don't give Thornton an opponent. Or at least someone of noted quality. Let him run out of defense and work together with Waite in stopping Hall or whoever is FF for the swans.

Also, GET GIBBS OUT OF BACK POCKET! :)

edit:

So that's Setanta, Scotland and Armfield in

Jacobs, Russel and maybe Gartlett out.
