Changes for the Second Test @ The Adelaide Oval

Good to see Bollinger is likely to play but I always thought it is a bit stiff dropping a "top 5" bowler after just one test in the Ashes to prove himself.

This change may come back to haunt Australia.

Hilfenhaus didn't do much in Brisbane either but I dont think that he deserves a second chance as he is the least likely of our fast bowlers to perform this series.

Are you serious? Hilfenhaus has been our most consistent bowler for some time. He's more likely than Johnson or Siddle to perform.

Seems a few people didn't watch the Hilf bowl in India. He got rid of Gambhir, Sehwag and Raina in the space of 13 overs and ran out Dhoni at a critical stage of the game. Very nearly delivered us the win with a subpar total to defend and finished up with 4/57 not including the run out. He's had some unlucky spells in his short test career thus far where he's finished up with a wicket or two less than deserved, but those are the margins in cricket and if you keep producing the standard that shit turns around. I maintain, keep him fit, give him an extended run and unlike some he WILL repay the faith. He is a talent, don't let that silly reactionary thread from Drummond, who has been a staunch fan all the way up till just now, convince you the bloke can't take us places.

fact is he averages over 30 has never take a 5 wicket haul and got belted at the gabba.

Promising bowler unlucky ....whatever, harris and bolinger would be just as unlucky or given their recent form more unlucky to miss out.

it's not about hilf anyway, it's about finding some way to get harris and bollinger into the team.

Callum Ferguson a nice 104 not out man of the match performance in the one dayer v Tasmania this evening!

I like Harris too. But you don't go dropping good players who aren't necessarily out of form for the flavour of the month; that's what England did over the years and it got them nowhere. Johnson is out of touch and has been for nearly two years so he deserves his omission. Bollinger in, who has been our best quick over the past couple of seasons. Siddle performed strongly and so should retain his spot. As far as I'm concerned, despite it being a spinner's deck, we need to assess whether Doherty is really good enough to get a start just for the sake of having a spinner. Hilfenhaus should be in the side...

Exactly why you need him... it's only a fraction over 30 and he bowls more overs than any other quick basically every match. So if he has yet to get a 5fa and averages pretty much on 30 that tells you he consistently gets a few without going for much, something which is needed around the likes of Siddle and Johnson who are up and down.

Love a good non knee jerk reaction post! Hilf is the goods, and should definitely be retained for the next test. Bring in Bollinger for Johnson, and I think unfortunately Harris misses the next one. The only way I can see him coming in is for Doherty and I hope they don't do that.

Belted at the Gabba? WTF are you smoking?

I hope they do. Clarke is as good a "spinner" as Doherty is. Doherty is trash, Hauritz is better. I hope Doherty gets hammered to be honest so O'Keefe or Hauritz plays in the next test!

Hauritz is just as puss but O'Keefe is not a bad option and will get a gig in the near future I am sure. Saying Doherty is trash just shows a poor knowledge of cricket... hes not ideal for Test cricket I will give you that but he should of also been in the ODI and T20 over Hauritz 12 months ago as anyone who watched domestic cricket will tell you he is probably the main reason for Tassie winning the FRC last year. I doubt he would of thought he was in the Test picture but would you say no if you were picked? To say you hope he is smashed is just shithouse.. I can't stand Johnson, Clarke or North but I still hope they do well when playing for Australia because I want them to win!

So we are picking a bloke on ODI form...this is the problem with Australian cricket! Pick Doherty in 50 over cricket- it is all he is good for! I don't need to hope he gets smashed, he will get smashed!

What I would do

Out:
Johnson
North

In:
Harris
Khwaja
If Hilf wasn't performed by the end of the waca test Dough comes in

I'm surprised you're surprised King Elvis. The selectors are notoriously conservative (gutless), dropping Mitch was about all they could handle. They simply are not prepared to make any sweeping changes.

Harris is better, probably the best in the country. He and Bollinger must lead the attack. I want the best in there. Someone has to miss out. Hilfenhaus is decent but not threatening. Still like him to play but there is zero chance of Siddle missing the team. Way it goes.

1/517 means a couple of changes. Can't look past that.

Was hard to drop Siddle after his spell so he stays in the side, we do need wicket taking bowlers and if he gains momentum wickets will tumble. Hilfy would offer the more economical option and would have done well with Harris and Bollinger as well. Key is having both Harris and Bollinger in the side.

Been confirmed that Johnson won't play. Good news.

I don't know how they drop Johnson so easily and North gets another chance.

Because Johnson is an easy, obvious decision, and he'll come back from it.

North, they're too pissweak to drop - easier to axe a kid like Hughes who will get another chance than an old bloke who isn't up to it.

Still, we should be pleased they dropped Mitch (and Hilfy), wasn't sure they'd have the balls.

Exactly.:thumbsu: At least this shows the selectors are finally making some big calls on experienced players like Johnson. This might also be a wake up to North that the axe isn't far away.

remember im talking the test that is coming up not long term.

I rate hilfy higher than siddle but based on the gabba they aren't dropping siddle are they?

If it was up to me i would open with hilf and bollinger with harris first change and hauritz the spinner.

But suggesting teams that will never happen(like people love doing here) is a waste of time.

We need 20 wickets

we just got slaughtered by the English top order, harris and bollinger have to get a shot...siddle won't be dropped something has to give.

it's tough on hilf of course, leaving out harris after his start to the season would be even tougher wouldn't it?
