I have Cats with Crows at the moment. I don't think any of their lines are top class anymore. Overall team defence is usually strong though.

Swans and Power not to be written off as top 4 chances, and possible but unlikely contenders.
My concern with the Crows is their leaky defence. Number 1 attacking team but they allow plenty the other way. Reminds me of us very early days under Fly particularly against Geelong, where we kicked 9 goals in a quarter and got run over in the last. We were a better team in the end, obviously.

Have been amazed at the brilliance of Sidey, and Pendles this year.

Likewise Jamey Elliot who is not just leading by example, but also by sharing his experience, insights and optimism as part of his role in the leadership group. His 200th game will be a joy to celebrate.

The challenge will be to take care of these treasures, and ensure that at all times when they run out onto the field they are primed to display their sparkling brilliance.

Jeremy Howe is another in this category.

I am confident from everything i have seen so far that our plans are meticulously thought out and will be followed rigorously.

Was about to add: yes may the carnivores lose, but then realised that magpies also eat meat and are classified as omnivores (not strict carnivores).

Anyway, best to avoid all ambiguity, and instead stick with your original comment.

If... just hypothetically, Howe and WHE are OUTs, what would this mean?

Markov comes in?
Ed Allan into the 22? Or some other in?

I doubt it'd be Mason. We'd end up too big up front, surely?

Probably just overthinking things. Sorry

I’m quietly confident about how we look compared to the other contenders.

It’s a long year. The fraudulent teams will crumble, the contenders will rise. We’re humming along nicely at almost full strength and I think with a fully healthy squad we have so many weapons to throw at the opposition. Our older guys have gone up a level to last year. I think we will prove a lot of the critics wrong.

Experience will come out on top in September.

This. Watching certain games at certain times and across the entire field you can see where the experience makes the right decision at the right times. Rarely a rush of blood and a bad mistake because so many of our players have been there done that a million times. It’s a huge plus when it gets hot in the kitchen.

Also one for the stats minded, whilst oppo fans and media scoff at us being the oldest team on the paddock, who is the youngest team and how are they travelling?
I know who I’d rather be with our awesome vets and the plan to refresh with Perryman and Houston types while bringing through young guns like the Daicos boys and the promising F/S and NGA players. Brilliant.

We were 4-1 at the conclusion of R5 in 2023 with a lesser % than we have now (currently 127.1%) our first loss that year was to a non Vic team away.

Just saying…

🙂
What the hell, I have zero memory of Saints being on top of the ladder at that time lmao

But a couple of weeks after that we rarely left the top two on the ladder and the rest was history as they say…

Last week I wasn't nervous, this week I am.

Going 5-1 would be amazing, especially with West Coast, North, Richmond, Melbourne x 2 still to come, though the confidence this would give the group is invaluable.

I'm actually the other way round. Was more nervous against Sydney and see Brisbane as a free hit.

If we win, we announce ourselves as premiership contenders. If we don't, it's not the end of the world and it will keep us grounded for the year ahead.

Good take. Agree with this.
Want to win of course, and if we do, we surely are considered one of the flag contenders. But if we lose this, not the end of the world to be 4-2

Hard to get a real read on Brisbanes form. They have won all 5 games but the form line in each game is inconsistent.
Down by 3-5 goals at half time against Sydney, Eagles, Geelong, Richmond & Bulldogs.
They’ve given up 20 Scoring shots against ordinary teams in Eagles and 25 against Richmond.
Hopefully this means we can kick a big score against them as well which would be harder for them to chase because our backline is flying.

My Changes

OUT WHE
In Degoey

Sully played well last week and played more the Shultz role.

I would have taken 3-3 in the first 6 games before the season so happy with way, getting to 5-1 would be an awesome effort considering our draw.

GO PIES!!!

Not sure I’d select WHE ahead of Allan. Although WHE is a possible sub.
