Jeez Markov and Frampton mega stiff to be dropped

Looking at the side you can understand why. Barring injuries this is our likely best 22 for finals
Markov is sub. Frampton got a bit of a corkie last week. AJ is unlucky, but you can understand why Fly needs to see McStay & Checkers together in the forward line. It's been a while.

But we haven't played teams with more than one gorilla very often. Geelong, Brisbane and Port often have 3 talls up forward. So, Marshall and Finnlayson will be far taller than their opponents on Saturday night. Billy has had to play ruck or forward due to players being unavailable in that role.
We've played a few. Frampton didn't have to play forward, we dropped AJ. We've chosen not to play him in defence. If he was going to play there in big games or finals he needed to be there for a large part of the year, it's important for our defence to have chemistry. The current mix does, doubt we change it now unless we start playing poorly or have injuries.

If you had asked fly in January what his best 23 should be for Collingwood, it would look a lot like this weeks team…. Maybe a line ball between hill and Ginnivan, and of course markov wouldn’t have been on the radar.

We’ve rarely if ever this season had both rucks on the park, especially not with both with mihocek and mcstay available.

Time to click into the next gear now.

Shattered AJ isn’t in The side. He’s a match winner.

So is Markov.

I have Brisbane and Geelong in mind. Cameron has murdered us in recent games and Howe has been his opponent. Frampton could take Hawkins and free Moore up to at least be able to help Howe out.
Howe will also have to take on Hipwood or even Forte if the Lions y go tall.
Bottom line, they pursued Frampton to fill a noticeable flaw in our defence and now we are playing the 2022 line up.

Or a ruck goes out. This is flys plan A and he deserves a clean run at making it work, with injuries preventing what he sees as our best lineup playing many games together
I think the plan has been for Kreuger to be the player that can make this happen, but unfortunately he's been fighting an uphill battle to get out there.

Port have had a great fixture.
It seems we have decided to return to the defensive set up of last year. Howe or Murphy having to cover the second key forward. It seems strange when Frampton was recruited for this perceived weakness and did the job on Dixon earlier this year.
At least after this game we can assess a combination with Frampton and a combination without Frampton. Playing the 2nd side close to finals and being able to look at a tough selection issue is a good advantage for us.

Markov is neither a match winner nor out of the side. He’ll be sub
Johnson is not a match winner either. 3 goals is his best haul to date. He's shown he can play at the level and be a good contributor. When has he even come close to being a match winner for us?

He could become one... but he ain't one now!

He kicked 4 last year against the Dees in a close fought one.

He's not a De Goey or Eliott type who'll win you a match off his own boot but he's a sure dangerous player to have prowling the forward line, and can make a big difference, mainly when it comes to being clinical inside 50.
