Did anybody else notice gaff was struggling to walk at the end of the game?

#Keys how was he at training today?
Didn't run any warm up laps and did nothing more than handballing in a circle with a few others so it was hard to judge

Last week he did jog/walk a couple of laps and looked really stiff and sore to the point where I thought he'd be a doubtful starter last week

The 9 day break we have will be beneficial for him

Kennedy looks too sore to play, actually LeCra needs a rest and Mitchell is scared of heights can't fly ,hoping Petrie not ready either.
See you there........I'll let myself out.

Wow amazing achievement for Eleni, well done to her. Wish her all the very best, it's a bloody tough gig she's gotten involved in.

The web can't cover entire expansed of dubious either. It does not expand over entire width. Web isn't a stationary thing.

U r ignoring other stats. If anything the web stopped us from being absolutely hammered against hawks. We couldn't get hands on it, and that's nothing to do with web.
So having to cover the extra width of the MCG has no effect, even with our slow as hell midfield?
Now I'm not saying that the web is the sole reason why we've had trouble against Hawthorn, it doesn't help that we turn into the softest team in the league against them, but it certainly is a factor.

If darling doesn't stop this shit

Then I'd be more inclined to drop him than Mcinness to make way for Petrie once he's had a WAFL game or two to earn his spot

I'm over jacks flopping about, it's just downright embarrassing. He's still best 22 because he can do some good things and can be relied upon for a couple of goals but he needs to elevate his game by being strong at the contest more consistently

Shits me big time, these staging antics of Jack.

He has become our Lindsay Thomas , and it hurts the team because he doesn't get paid the genuine free's he should get because the umpiring fraternity are well aware of his Academy Award efforts. He is the Boy Who Cried Wolf as far as free kicks go.

Agree that the issue needs to be addressed by our coaches and Jack should be told in no uncertain terms, cut this shit out of your game, or else you go back to East Perth until you do.

Going a step further I would give him a tape of the highlights from his first five AFL games, ask him to view it and explain where his never say die attack at the football , his pressure acts, his intense forward pressure and his all out attacking sprints to chase and tackle, have gone..... because I haven't seen it for a ******* long time now.

Look I like him and am massive fan, but right at the minute, he is no more than a good player who needs a massive kick up the arse because he has the potential to be one of the greats.
But right now his is playing on "Easy Street" and that just doesn't cut it for me.

The fact that he has been coasting for as long as he has now, is a sad indictment of our entire coaching staff, as it should have been confronted and addressed three years ago when it started to emerge.

I am not the greatest Ross Lyon fan but I bet "London to a Brick" that he would have stamped this shit out of JD's games a few years ago.

TBH I am more pissed that Simpson and his charges haven't sorted this out than I am about Jacks antics.

how much of this is in your mind?

No. Hawthorn isn't a particularly quick side. I would go as far to say they r slower.

I think it's more the fact we are soft. The web is zone defence and its all about covering dangerous space. The ball doesn't travel any further at mcg.

Goals against us against hawthorn had very little to do with covering extra space. But we didn't because we couldn't win it when in dispute and when the hawks did we were caught flat footed because we were stationary. Everything breaks down when u don't work hard enough. Web isn't a magical thing which means you don't work hard to get into position.

By your logic, we should be able to tear clubs apart at mcg because with extra space, should be easier for us to hit targets because we r so good at home where the space is tighter. So if hawks kicked 19, why didn't we score 19 or more than that?

If you can't see how a wider ground might cause problems and stretch our defense then there's not much I can do to convince you, it clearly leaves us open to a side with precise ball movement.
Not sure where you're getting the jump in logic from in your third point, especially considering our ball movement has been quite poor as a general rule this year on all grounds.

Jack Darling will probably never be "great" but if he changed his mindset he could become incredibly valuable to our successes this year. Just stay on your feet mate and don't stop until the play is dead or out of your area and your man is covered.

The MCG is also shorter which becomes a factor as well because if sides do open us up through the middle it requires less depth in the kicks to get the ball in a dangerous position

Imo our old game plan suited him more, and Woosha was definitely able to get more out of him physically. Needs a hard-arse behind him.

Well if u don't understand how zone defences work, there isn't much point to describe it to you. You still don't get that zone defences don't stretch over full width of ground. Any ground. And you are ignoring actual stats from these games which show a clear story.

If our zones are stretched so are oppositions. All clubs play a zone. Have you watched any football in your life?

So what u r saying is win the ball first.

Bingo. There we have our problem. Against hawks they had 100 extra possessions, we lost contested possession count by 20, about 15 more turnovers.

None to do with web itself but our ability to fight. The web doesn't protect you from shit intensity.

Focus is on something that isn't the issue.

Riteo, yep you're 100% right, we just mysteriously don't go for the ball as hard at the MCG. Clearly nothing to do with the dimensions of the ground.

One difference is with our forward 50 press though. In that instance we do have to try and defend the entire arc from kick ins or turnovers as we don't yet know which side of the ground the opposition will try to use. Because it's so much wider, it's a lot easier to transition through our press as each of our players is accountable for a larger area than at subi. The press is stretched, and therefore we can't lock the ball in as effectively.

I do agree with what you're saying about intent though. We go to water at the G.

Agree with everything you've said.
As for the bolded I don't think it's just at the G though, we go to water in big games at other grounds all the time as well, like the Mitch Brown Final last year.

I think it's specifically an MCG thing.

I'd say the Port game was pretty big, and the pressure near the end there was through the roof. Yet, we beat a team without an injury list on their own turf (with quite a few injuries of our own) because our back 6 worked perfectly together in defence.

IMO it all starts with the gameplan, and any mental problems or similar stem from it breaking down.

True, but at this point I feel like we go to water at the G in every game, not just the big ones. Ignoring the 3x Hawthorn spankings, we've lost to the tigers and pies there recently, as well as just falling over the line against an average Carlton. At other grounds I still feel like we typically beat the sides that we're expected to beat, but at the G we have to fight tooth and nail just to get a win over a bottom four team.

I have a theory that our poor performances at the MCG are related to the width of the ground and the fact we have some very slow midfielders, I think we struggle to get numbers to contests because of this which effects our ball winning ability.
Doesn't explain the dropped marks and turnovers etc but I honestly reckon we do this in plenty of games, not just at the MCG.
