Byrnes is getting crucified for his two major fluffs last week. I'm sure some of our fans would nearly chuck him behind bars for missing after Nablett dished off to him with the old baulk & handball

I thought Tenace had been going alright in recent games, seems to have lifted his intensity and hardness. His disposal was also getting better as he had targets to kick to. I reckon Tenace will come in as a late change, we need pace against West Coast, although with the weather forecast being for rain, he might not be so important. I think Byrnes would be a better wet weather player than Tenace.

More playing of players under injury clouds, but I guess we have nothing to lose. Koula had a groin strain from last game I think. Hopefully Josh Hunt is now fully over his flu also.

Interesting going with Chambers ahead of Blake. I feel sorry for poor Blakey as I don't think Chambers gives a lot more in the ruck. Effort maybe, but I like how Blake thumps the ball 20m forward in some of the ruck contests. I'd like to hear other peoples opinions of the Chambers Vs. Blake debate.

There you go... I reckon Byrnes' decision-making and foot skills are better, while Turbo's quicker and better by hand. Not much between them though and I hope both develop into long-term prospects.

Meanwhile, after a very poor start to the season, Tenace finally shows a bit (albeit, still with some ball handling errors) and gets dropped.

This reeks of when Charlie Gardiner retained his spot for so long with such poor form.

I read your post Sammy, but still had to let fly. It frustrates the hell out of me to see such a stagnent, reactive and lacking in creativity coach.

A stronger coach would have dropped Byrnes.

I don't like the idea of a half fit Harley up against Hansen, they might be planning on playing Mooney or Egan on him. Unfortunately this would leave Harley to match up on Seaby who would have an obvious height advantage. I think Hunt will go to Sampi, Milburn to R.Jones and Rooke to take Morton. Nicoski will probably play forward unless his run is required down back due to Wirrapunda missing, and Rooke will probably be best for him, unless Hunt is available.

Glad that Wirrapunda is out (condolences to him for his loss), but this means that the Eagles will lack their usual rebound from defence. Chick will be more important and I think G.Ablett should try to keep him out of the play, work into space and use his pace and evasiveness to beat Chick. I'd imagine Staker will play on N.Ablett with Glass on Kingsley and Hunter on Playfair. This will leave Banfield for Chapman and Stenglein or B.Jones for Johnson.

For the midfield, Ling to play on Cousins in his usual defensive/offensive role. Kelly to tag Judd because he has been in poor form and is a good tackler with a bit of pace. Wouldn't mind seeing Sando move into the middle to play on Fletcher, he has been struggling lately but is tough and can set up play well, I think he may trouble Fletcher. Ricco should play on Kerr and make him accountable, pressure him and take his eye of the game. Byrnes on Braun is the last matchup. All must be accountable for their opponents, they will get no slack from West Coast and must make sure they give none back.

Wouldn't mind seeing Ablett drag Chick out of the defensive 50 and then stack the forward line with Mooney, N.Ablett and Kingsley with SJ and Chappy for crumbs. i think this could create a real headache for the Eagles, and as these guys are all very agile for big men, would not hinder us even in poor conditions. Playfair would lead up the ground and then have 3 big options to kick to.

Don't get me wrong. What Byrnes did was very poor. Missing the shot shouldn't happen, but I think we've all seen that stuff before while the holding the ball cut, cut deep. Maybe lack of experience? The pure reason I think Thompson has kept him in is that he read the paper sunday morning and saw he had the pill 19 times. I wasn't there Saturday and I watched the game on tv while listening to the live radio at the same time so it didn't get my full concentration to be honest. I'm not going to say he should have been dropped or not, but I think a few posters (mostly Cats Claw) are overeacting. You were generous compared to some

Yet they still prove to be overrated by a few.

Shannon looks sublime when he's putting foot to ball, possibly due to the manner in which he drops it (for a stark contrast, think McCarthy dropping the ball on his boot) and the positive penetration/spin he gets going. Looks mighty fine, and tends to give the impression that it's pinpoint perfect at times, but unfortunately it's anything but. He's still better than a good number of others at the club, but at the same time, hardly the decisive kicker I have the feeling some make him out to be (not pinpointing you FatCat).

Furthermore, Shannon - along with alot of his friends at the club - possess poor decision making skills, prompting me to believe such an 'asset' is also overrated.

Obviously, in this context, many find it easy to give Shannon the title of 'better decision maker' in light on Tenace's much more publicised poor usage of the ball. However, with that being said, Shannon's isn't all too flash hot either (as aren't his teammates).

I don't know how many times we've seen the players get on the receiving end of a handpass or a kick, half arsely set off, momentarily pause, back up and make a mess of things themselves or through another teammate with a handball/kick with 'opposition pressure' written all over it.

An example of sorts: Without delving too much into the rather hardcore side of tactics and the like, lower levels such as the juniors preach the main reason behind running past and commanding the receiving handball after a marking contest is based on the assumption that you as the receiver have the better chance at judging what is the quickest and best option upfield having seen it first (at least, that's what I was taught during my time). Fairly basic, yet some of the players still can't grasp it. Fair enough, we want to keep the ball moving, but if you haven't an option up field, why run past and collect the handball? Chances are, you're going to cough it up more often doing that as opposed to the original possession holder (the marker) holding on to the ball those few seconds extra.

Pity it's not the only example of poor decision making we've seen the team show in recent weeks.

It's not the first time it's happened in Shannon's case though. For a guy with a supposed decisive left foot, he misses far too many shots running into an open goal.

Sorry GeeCat. I wasn't putting the miss down to lack of experience, that was the "I'll run as fast as I can, then not know what to do with it and get pinged' situation. Poor wording on my part

8.13 this season, 9.16 for his career. I think he kicked 0.4 against Melbourne in Round 3 earlier in the season also. Any one remember that miss from the goalsquare

I am pro-byrnes and anti-tenace. I think tenace is a pretty dodgy player and I noticed some of you wanted him in just for his speed, byrnes is faster and has better skills. Byrnes also earnt a rising star nomination last time he played against West Coast at Subi, although Byrnes did stuff up a bit last week, it wasnt his fault we lost, it was the whole teams fault.
