Gees how good would it be if Longmuir decides to risk Young. There's outrageous chat on the Freo board that he will play. They're bloody desperate. I'd be stunned if he gets through a whole match unless he only goes at 70% which is a win for us.

I think he’ll play him as sub and start Fyfe which would be great for us.

The structure is set and it’s either Croft, Poulter or Buku for that hybrid 3rd tall role.

Croft gets in because his athleticism actually makes him pretty potent on the ground with his intensity at the ball.
I think Croft’s running ability means he can also do the stuff we normally rely on VDM and McNeil to do.

And he actually does something with the football on top of the pressure

Vanders hasn't played VFL since 2023, I have to imagine the match committee is planning to bring him straight back in again. I don't agree with it as I know his role and strengths are important, but he has barely played in the last month and there are just a few ahead of him at the moment with Ads ready to come back in.

What I want:

In - Ads (as sub)
Out - Sanders (tough, but a little down on form at the wrong time)

What I think will happen:

In - Ads (as sub), VDM
Out - Sanders, Croft (maybe?)

I would have McNeil play a forwarding tagging job on Jordan Clark this week off half back.

Some very tough calls this week.

Going by Bevo’s comments in his presser Croft will play next week

Yeah I thought he sort of was thinking through it on the spot. He mentioned he liked that it always leaves at least two talls down there, but that's something they have gone back and forth on all year without a ton of conviction. Didn't fully lock in absolutely he will go again next week. Crofty probably plays, but there's definitely a world where he gets squeezed out for a runner and they rely on Kennedy / Bont / Davidson as another tall fwd.

I hope he stays in though, loved what he showed and he will only improve.

Croft is in the top 3 runners at the club. Runs a 6min 2km. Most mids in the comp struggle to do that. Can also go back if required.

Oh I know, i'm well aware and a big fan of Crofty. As I said I hope he stays in, but what I mean by runner is that position that VDM / McNeil play where it is tireless running up and down the ground to present and option, gut busting chasing and defensive pressure and specific running patterns. Crofty would not be able to play that role as yet because he's still so young and raw and is more a baby deer, see ball get ball type of forward at this stage.

McNeil and VDM are obviously whipping boys and not perfect by any means, but the reason they get most weeks over others and why VDM hasn't played VFL for 2 years, is to play this specific position and style that the match committee require of them.

Any chance of a last dance from Liam Jones? How has he been going in the VFL?

Treloar in for McNeil should be the only change.

Sanders is a tricky one, would like to see him more in that HHF role from earlier in the year, was hitting the scoreboard, finding a lot of footy and clean hands inside 50.

Performances have really dipped since he was shoved out onto a wing, never really had the speed, defensive nous or foot skills to play there.

If Treloar got through unscathed, was able to gut run in the VFL and gets through training all this week then he comes in for Sanders and Garcia is moved to sub.

McNeil if he misses is replaced by Vandermeer if he’s through the concussion protocols.

Crofts a mini Naughts in that he’s aggressive at ground level as well as in the air. Probably why he’ll continue getting games ahead of Buku. Can’t see him missing next week.

Would have to be Treloar in for Sanders. Sub yesterday and wasn’t good when he came on. A like for like replacement as far as role goes. Just with much higher output with Treloar.

Can’t see us going in without one of either of Vanders and McNeil. However you rate them, they bring energy to our forward line.

Treloar for Sanders the only change.

I love Treloar and everything about him and what he brings, but with his calves and the stakes this week, it does feel like putting the delicate vases out in a house full of toddlers.

I must be blind to the evidence that Vandermeer and McNeil provide essential running and pressure to the team structure. I agree that this is probably the reason they continue to be selected but my eyes tell a different story. I see them both as limited players who usually don't impact matches very much at all. Occasionally, they will bob up with a handy goal or two but mostly remain anonymous on the field. Is it a case of they are the best available options when we don't have any other options? Perhaps I need to go to Specsavers to obtain a clearer vision of their on field contributions.

Calves and stakes….i like what you did there….mmmmm steaks

What’s the ruck split been between Darcy and Jackson? Be interesting to see how we set this up as I’m not sure we will be able to play Lobb in there with Voss, Treacy and Amiss inside 50. I’d play Lobb on Treacy.

Rhylee west can beat the record for forward 50 ground ball get in the last 13 AFL seasons if he gets 3 against Freo !!!!!

Darce isnt exactly a shrinking violet when the ball hits the ground either!

Treloar for Sanders or Garcia is a clear upgrade on either. One of them is going to be unlucky
