Honestly, once again we need to swing the axe. Season is shot to pieces and we have many of our best players that are injured or aren't 100% and are playing. Changes I think should happen are a mixture of injury, form and players returning.

In: Andrews, Bewick, Mathieson Paparone
Out: Paine, Hanley, Bastinac, Martin

And depending if Christensen is not able to play then C. beams or Green come in.

Please, oh please win against Freo or I will completely lose faith in Leppa and most of our squad :(.

No will win this and we will have this weird sort of false hope and then we will get smashed for the next few weeks and we will realise how shite we are.

Oh I know just how bad we are. I just don't know whether time makes any of our list better or are we looking at another complete bottom out over the next 5 years.

Depending on availability , In: Andrews, Bewick, Green, Paparone.
Out: Hanley, Mayes, Martin and Christenson [injured].

Andrews for Paine I certainly support. Can't see any great point to dropping Hanley. He probably needs to be managed a bit from here on but I can't see much point to starting at home with three weeks until the bye. I know everyone hates Bastinac but he was pretty decent today and gets in amongst it to gather a contested ball. Love Matho but he won't have discovered an extra 15% gametime in one week.

In: Andrews, Bewick, Gardiner, Walker
Out: Paine, Christensen, Taylor, West

If Christensen is ok then he stays, but it doesn't seem likely.

Paine out for Andrews is straightforward.

If Christensen doesn't get up Bewick is the obvious choice.

Nfi what to do with West and Martin. Martin was crap after the headknock. West is at least winning taps, or appears to be doing so. Walker was basically ineffective before being dropped. I guess they get to stick.

Tempted to put Hanley on ice for Evans the rest of the year, but that's basically tanking.

In: more Rockliff
Out: anyone who isn't as committed as Rockliff.

And also in: Andrews, Bewick, William (not sure if he is eligible as a rookie but I really just want to have a look how he goes.)
Out: Martin, Mayes, Christensen

I honestly don't think anyone would be able to tell if we were tanking. Let's go crazy.

Don't think there's any point in dropping Mayes now that he's actually starting to look better. If we persisted through his worst it seems silly to do anything now.

In: Bewick, Mathieson, CBeams
Out: Christensen, NRobbo, Paine

West deserves his spot more than Stef at this stage
Maybe also out handballs? In running

Who really cares at this point? We're bottom 2 again, that's for damn sure, doesn't really matter if it's 17th or 18th. If there's even a minuscule chance that Hanley improves from the rest I say do it.

Honestly that's basically where I'm at too, but given the demands to sack Leppa I can't see him playing for next year or, realistically, 2018 and after.

One of those long term contacts that will come back to bite us. Regardless, Leppa is done. He'd know that. Not completely his fault but there's zero chance he's at the helm next year. Stick Hanley on ice. Rest could be a godsend and freshen him for the future but probably not. Depressing reality but if we get 15 more high level games from the remainder of his contract then it's probably a win at this point. Not looking good. Not a lot at all to be positive about.

In:Andrews,Bewick,Green,Walker, Matheison

Out- Paine,Martin,Taylor,Christensen, Robertson

It's pointless having Martin as the 2nd ruck at the moment,he's barely been sighted and he's too afraid to go in hard at the contest. I feel like Walker is more versatile and useful around the ground and forward.
Bewick is obvious
Green can surely offer more than Taylor is currently. Taylor looked to have turned a corner last week with his chasing and tackling, but it was short lived.
Matheison should just be persisted with IMO.

I haven't seen much football of late, but would Martin improve again if he was the only Ruck? He and Leuey never played well together, but when Martin was the sole ruck he came good. Could ditching West help his cause again?

Martin needs a rest he hasn't been the same since the May hit and wasn't rested West as the main ruckman could work with Fremantle only playing the one ruck

Out: Paine, Martin, Christensen
  • As Gerard Healy said, Paine doesn't look ready to handle marking a key tall, Andrews comes straight in there. Paine is too inconsistent.

  • Bewick for Christensen is a straight swap in the back line.

  • I think in terms of pure tap outs, West looked better than Martin yesterday to my untrained TV eye. In our Q3 lift, his taps were actually going to our midfielders. Martin used to be a beast around the ground and did take a couple of marks yesterday but I'd be giving him a rest.

  • Gardiner comes in for Mayes in the back line and Mayes moves to a midfield role, replacing N Robbo on the wing. If Gardiner isn't ready then maybe Robertson goes into the backline for Mayes. I understand putting Mayes in the backline to have a good runner back there but I would love to see him have a chance in the mids.

  • Would love to find a spot for Rhys but I think it's worth persisting with Robertson despite struggling with his skills yesterday.

  • What do you do with Hanley? His clearly yards off the pace but very hesitant to put him in the forward pocket because his kicking for goal is so poor. Maybe off the bench as a utility wherever we need cover?

It seems pointless even listing changes, because we won't see an improvement. But surely we don't have that many poor users of the footy in our side. Disposal and decision making is atrocious at the moment and it has to be confidence related. Only player I saw lower his eyes and look for the smart option was Rockliff. Everyone else just blazed away. I'd like to see Bewick come in for Christensen. I'd like to see Bell never leave the forward line again, at least his disposal can't hurt us too badly there. Hanley needs a break. Just not working hard enough or making the correct decision. The coaches should definitely look at C. Beams form in the reserves over the last few weeks and see that he has led the I50 count two weeks in a row. Something our half forward line could use dearly. As a supporter it's just really hard to understand why the coaching staff would play guys out of position when we can all see that their best footy is played in another part of the ground. I get that they're trying to make them more complete footballers but it's really frustrating when our biggest deficiencies could be addressed by playing guys where they play well.
