Changes v Port Rd 6

Ideally, it won't happen though, McGovern has been too good down there and the mc probably think we're in with a chance to win. I'd even think about going with a short forward line, with Kennedy, resting ruckman and Hill playing as a lead-up forward.
Hmmm...

More likely we pick McInnes again.

Simpson said Hill benefitted from having McInnes and he felt the balance of talls was right.
Whether that's the case for Port as well I'm not sure, but I'd like to see McInnes given another go - what have we got to lose really?

Agree. I thought Sinclair was solid tonight.
Sinclair hasn't won me over yet - he took one really good mark tonight but to me he looks really immobile at times

The one thing he did do though - he wasn't mauled in the ruck

Lycett got his pants pulled down by Minson and Sandi.

Your 2nd ruck option has to either be really valuable in the ruck or solid up forward. At the moment we don't get really any of those from either.

McInnes has been trialled in the ruck the last 2 games. Truthfully, if we expect our 2nd ruck to be beaten anyway - might as well play the one who is most dangerous forward.

Simmo post-match from tonight. As usual, paraphrasing unless quotes.

- We were expecting a fierce contest - they're going to be good - you can see how they're improving.
- We were really aware of their formline
- We wanted to bring pressure and we did it for nearly four quarters tonight
- Main focus for our game was pressure
- Defenders stood up again
- Forward line added pressure too
- Game was ping-ponging a little in Q1/Q2 - they then sent numbers to stoppages
- We lost momentum late in the first but we felt good about the game's progress even then
- Yeo still has development ahead of him, but he has "swagger - and I like that". "He's been dying to get into the midfield." Was great he got rewarded tonight.
- We still might need him down back - he's versatile - but he's helping us in the mid at the moment, but he even has presence up forward. Case-by-case basis.
- We gave JK some extra time to come back from that knock. Hopefully not too bad.
- JK and all our leaders played their roles. Our leadership group took a step forward tonight.
- We won in the right way - "pressure and intensity"
- No idea about JK's injury at this point - maybe just an elbow knock
- We didn't feel fully at ease until halfway through the last quarter. We were told no risk for JK to come back on - and they appeared right.
- LeCras was a bit tight so we made the call to sub him. "Four or five players were tight from the six day break" - Lecca was the last to pass a fitness test.
- Schoey's ankle was rough - same one as prior injury - medicos were confident it wouldn't get worse and it appeared not too.
- Duggan's first full game and he didn't look out of place - going to be a good player. We need to be patient with him but he seems to enjoy the physicality.
- The collective of our back six worked really well tonight. "As a unit they played well together" - that's something we're building towards.
- Port @ Adelaide Oval is a tough challenge - "I hope they beat the hell out of each other tomorrow"
- Josh Hill has gone well - but also Fraser's input - we've learned not to play Josh as a tall. He's better off playing hybrid and having another tall down there.
- McInnes helps balance out Hill even if he didn't get big rewards
- We rate Mumford highly and we needed to control the ruck. Nic did very well, and Sinclair did well too - high work rate, and provided something up forward. Happy with tonight there.
- "I don't buy into" the flat track bully stuff. We need to improve against teams higher on the ladder though.
- Our ambition is to turn up with the right intent every week - regardless of latter position.
- "We're dying to have a crack at Port"

Agreed. 2 games isn't enough to judge a young player. Reckon he will get better.

Last week most were lauding Mcinnes, this week there's calls to drop him, needs another 2/3 for more confidence and experience.
Must be other clubs keeping a close eye on Colledge, I'd be pissed but wouldn't blame him if he wanted to go interstate when/if the opportunity arises.

I honestly don't think McInnes will make it tbh. I know he should and will be given time to get up to speed but can't see him being anything more than a fringe player/delistee.
We will trade him before we would delist him

The game…

And he's not an inside player. But apart from that, quality post :)
I know lol. I was referring to Simpsons presser where he said college was an inside player and he was not playing because of this.

Does Simpson actually know his own players?

He's probably an inside mid in his plans. He wouldn't cut it as an outside mid at AFL level and Simpson sees his major role in the team as an inside mid. If he's not capable of playing that role yet then that explains the lack of selection.

It's a big if but if we win this we have a pretty good few weeks playing saintkilda, Gold Coast and then Geelong at home.
