These would be my changes, however I'd be surprised if McVeigh did actually get dropped due to Hird's relationship with him.

OUT: A.Welsh (inj.), M.McVeigh (omitted)
IN: J. Carlisle, H.Slattery

You wanna play slattery as a midfielder? Hibberd has taken his spot in the backline and then some...

Anyone whos fit and has pace in for welsh i reckon the only change.

Or they fact that he totally blanketed Bartel for most of the night?

SJ

Haven't you learnt that beating your opponent is low on the list of priorities of many posters in this forum.

Gotta say that McVeigh's disposal was the pits - but expect him to get votes in the B and F.

Obviously just one change this week with Welsh being injured.

Carlisle, Steinberg, Browne...

It will be one of those.

I'd love to see Steinberg get a crack on the big stage but will be happy with any of them.

My initial thoughts were for Ross, but maybe still a few weeks off.

Interesting to see how they manage Bellchambers in the coming weeks.

I'd bring in Gumby for a gallop

i agree.

i would go with

hardingham, pears,fletcher
hibberd, hurley,heppell
stanton,melksham,zaka
davey,gumbleton,jetta
reimers,hille,crameri
ryder,hocking,howlett
prismall,colyer,monfries
mcveigh(sub)

emerg. carlisle,dyson,williams

if colyer doesnt get up either dyson or williams come in.

in gumby
out welsh(inj)

that would make it 6 changes from last time we played the tigers

in.hocking,hurley,pears,colyer,prismall,gumbleton

out: nlm,lonergan,hooker,h.slattery,bellchambers,myers

reckon the 6 ins beat the 6 outs

You don't have to be a genius to work out he is not playing at AFL level.
v Geelong: 11 disposals, 45% disposal efficiency, 6 free kicks against
v Hawks: 8 disposals, 1 tackle
v North: 12 disposals
v Fremantle: 10 disposals, 60% disposal efficiency

Not good enough input from any AFL player, let alone a senior one.
Fair enough he might get a few shut-down jobs, or attempt to.. But players these days must have multiple strings to their bow, and he has given us nothing when in possession for 4 weeks in a row. Hocking has taken his shut-down role to a new level over the past two years, gut running going forward when we have the ball. He simply needed to, if he was going to become a regular AFL player.

...and that he's a leader/experienced player who is now more important with Welsh going down.

I couldn't care less whether he's experienced or not. If he is a constant liability to the team, he must be dropped. If we get knocked around a bit more and lose a bit more contested footy, I see it as a step we need to take to go forward. We wil not threaten the likes of Collingwood, Geelong, Hawks and Carlton as examples come the business end of the season so we must look a little further than 'next week'.

I couldn't care less if McVeigh doesn't touch the ball all game as long as he is shutting down damaging players like Bartel.

McVeigh played a big part in our victory last night.

You're paying way too much attention to stats.

This is often trend evidenced in BF voting.

Example

Pears = 5 possessions - held an in-form forward Edwards
Pears = 19 posssessions - Destroyed by Hale who was returning from injury.

Absolutely spot on, Yaco.

I couldn't believe people were giving Pears votes against the Hawks. Nothing against him because it was only his second game back, but he had a stinker.

I remember commenting that he was much better forst up against the Kangas.

Hardingham had one of his poorer games for the season last night but he got plenty of the ball so he was in the votes.

How did Bartel go?

Please read above properly.

This is the type of thinking that will halt the development of potentially good players and see us continue being 'pretenders'. McVeigh is on his last legs, no doubt about it. BTW, I've been to many games this season (didn't go v Geelong) so I'm not your typical 'keyboard warrior' (like some*cough*). Stats are used to validate my thoughts. I thought his lack of form was crystal clear, but obviously not..

IN: Dyson
OUT: Welsh (inj.)

We need more runners against Richmond, as per OP, Dyson as sub.

Had there not been a bye I'd have brought in Bellchambers for Hille. Hille was outbodied in ruck contests against a skinny 20-year old. Bellchambers is a far better tap ruckman and Hille has only kicked 1 goal in his last 3 outings. Bellchambers needs more game time and Hille could do with a rest so he can be fresh for the pointy end of the season. If Hille is good enough he'll force his way back in.

I thought McVeigh had a pretty good game last night but his lack of form in previous weeks had been crystal clear to me also. He doesn't have too many good games left in him imho - ditto Hille.

Bartel got 19 disposals. Big deal? The problem I stated earlier, if you cared to read my post with both eyes, is him offering nothing when we are in possession. If he was young, learning the ropes and just doing a pure shut-down role for the time-being, that would be fine. He is clearly limited in what positions he can play, is not getting any younger and offers nothing going forward; so we must develop some of the lesser lights at this stage as we are still way off Collingwood.

But he blanketed Bartell, and he blanketed... against the Hawks.. and that game against the..

Oh give it up you lot. Seriously.

When I watched the game, Bartell was playing through the middle, and lost McVeigh often in traffic.

So what if he got on the end of a few balls (12 to be exact), is that good enough is it? Are we happy with 12 possessions from a senior player who should be offering us something the other way?

EDIT: Just for the record, don't think McVeigh will be dropped!!

Out: Welsh, Hille
In: either Dyson or Browne, Bellchambers

See if Dyson is worth keeping or give Browne another proper run and work on two ruckmen and give one a week off every couple til the end of year i say

I want to win games of football RIGHT NOW.

I don't care if Spike hasn't got much to offer moving forward.

He has been down on form but this week he performed his role very well and contributed to us WINNING.

Why don't people talk about Reimers superb performance of 10 possessions from 75% of time on ground? or what about Alwyn Davey laying a solitary tackle despite being in the team for his forward pressure (to his credit, the Herald Sun has credited him with 12 pressure acts).

Colin, I think we are just going to have to face it that McVeigh will be in the side until someone else is ready to take his spot (come on Brownedog, get a move on).
