I’m not seeing what masten is offering, at every stoppage he is not near any players, but directing others to man up. Yet being in space he rarely gets the ball with any time, and is often under pressure where his disposal suffers ( if he can get rid of the ball )

The idea, that he he been good this year, is based upon low expectations.

He positions himself between contests, with the ability to affect neither. I’d like to Jetta in this role instead. A bloke who can use the space, and will run with the ball opening the game up.

So here, ends the rant.
Maybe you need to watch the game more closely.
Masten definitely has footy smarts. Has very quick hands and good delivery.
Is fourth on our list for score involvements. He has a specific role to play and does it well.
Is a very good link when the team is transitioning forward and is a vital cog in the switch which is an integral part of our game plan.
He creates his own space as well as anyone in the team and draws the opposition players while creating space for others.
There are not too many others on our list that have these same attributes.
He's no Patrick Dangerfield but that not his role.

Mastens gut running to link up play has been massive this year. This has allowed Gaff to play more inside and allowed Jetta to play a new and better role down back. Unless there is a player in the reserves that can match that sort of output right now Masten stays in.... Start of the season i was all for Masten not playing in the senior side but his role has been vital.

Jetta has been used on the wing for the last couple of years and hasnt been great. There isn't much room for him to run either. Probably more to do with the way the game is going these days than anything.

Yeah there’s no wide open wings anymore. The only run and carry and multiple bounces that tend to happen anymore start from within the defensive 50 through to the centre square - ie Saad and other running backs

Gov for Schoey and NN for Large Frase are the easy ones.

I would bring in Jetta but keep Nelson as he will be handy against Richmond's smaller fwd line. I'd take Ah Chee out.

It sounds to me like Sheed won't get up, but if he does then he comes back in and Ainsworth goes out.

Looked pretty good in the snap chats but i guess hard to judge when its a small clip.

Dont know if this is better or worse but Vozzo did say in his video it was a ‘toe’ injury and not foot. Wonder if it was a similar injury to shuey’s due to the turf

Again - playing well, still cops it.

How predictable.

Masten is physically weak. Fact. That's not to say that he isn't playing well atm, but he is the physically weakest guy of our best 22.

You would be hard pressed to find even the most ardent Masten supporter who disagrees with that statement, despite his current vein of good form. If you disagree, please elaborate; today is a slow day and i could use some amusement.

I like how bolding it wasn't enough and you had to underline words.

Makes it much more authoritative.

And yet i am still yet to hear any valid counter argument against Masten being physically weak.

Telling, very telling.

By all means disagree, if you have anything productive to offer. Which given that you would have to, by implication, be arguing that Masten is strong over the ball...........well, good luck.

"Please prove it...??" I'm bored too, and would like nothing more than to read another tirade against Masten...not really.
Look, the coach keeps him as long as he serves his role efficiently. If he stops doing that, he'll be replaced...or if he shoots himself in the foot too often (turnovers etc) which he is prone to do.
Maybe he will surprise us this Sunday with a monster tackle on Dusty and kick 2 goals? Or......

It's looking like NN, Gov, Jets and Dom..but if no Dom, then hope AhChee gets another gig..

His legacy was so powerful that when he stuffs up the memories flood back. The camera cues to Simpsons reaction. Everybody knows he can kill momentum the tv camera bloke is right.

What is your point though? Yes he has a weak contested game but that's not why he is in the current side. He's playing for his endurance running and kicking efficiency. He's averaging 20 disposals a game at 78% efficiency, 4th at the club for scoring involvements and one of the highest for direct goal assists. Replacing him with another inside toiler isn't going to help us much.

He killed momentum against GWS with a pathetic pass to Gaff . Twice in a chain of contests or rather at the end of the chain he was totally useless like he wasnt there so that was 3 times he peed me off against GWS . He still holds his spot but he better watch out.

My point is that whilst Mastens form is presently good and he doesnt warranted replacing, he still very much lacks physical presence.

Thats not a point of conjecture, its a fact.

The counter statement was that I was still bagging Masten when we were winning, which I wasnt as such, rather, i was highlighting something which is true.

Thats akin to saying Priddis is super slow, or ainsworth needs to work on his disposal by foot. We all very much want them to play their role for the team and by extension, for us to win. But it still doesnt change the aforementioned.

This is hardly new ground, Chris has hardly been Mr Contested. Its all good whilst the boys win, but i will be very curious to see the sentiment if we start losing.

Masten's stoppage play isn't why he's in the team. It's his gut running into space for the whole game and accurate disposal by foot when in space.

Players who can run all day are valuable. Masten does plenty of unrewarded running but keeps running to the right places. Cripps is similar and he cops a lot too.

Jetta is playing as a defender because it keeps him involved longer in the game. When he was playing the Masten role he had a tendency to go missing.

One of the things our coaches have really seemed to manage this year is getting inconsistent players playing to their strengths.

If all Masten did was add to the blooper reel every game he'd be out of this side like a shot.

Adam Simpson is also the coach - fact. Is he the inside bull we've all been looking for? I don't think so.

Iirc Masten even lost weight over the pre-season. He's probably even weaker now.

It all means absolutely nothing. Masten's role is to run all day, link up and create space. He's doing that wonderfully.

Simpson has acknowledged that he's stopped trying to make players into something they aren't and instead using them for their strengths. It's working great.

Yeah I think Masten said he tried to bulk up last season to play more inside and that was responsible for his form going into the toilet.

It's just too tough to argue with something that's bolded AND underlined AND italicised.

And yet we still won against one of the premiership faves at their home? Talk about cherry picking your argument! pretty sure Kennedy dropped a mark too, you gonna get on his back?
Masten (not Marsdon) played well on the weekend, was pretty effective at pumping the ball to good positions.

edit: no clangers either. zero

Only way to beat The wily weagle's tactics is by bringing out the big guns.

Full capitals, maximum size font.

MASTEN ISN'T PHYSICALLY WEAK. IT'S A MOOT POINT
