Imagine if Giles came in and dominated the finals series

A fit Barrass for Nelson - sucks to be Jacko but to combat a taller forward line I feel the need for Barrass is there. Tonight was a good chance to give Barrass a rest against the smaller more mobile Hawks.

Giles for NN - Pessimist me says it has to happen although the Crows really only play one genuine ruck in Sauce Jacobs. Think we need to find a makeshift ruckman to back u Lycett eirther way.

i agree but with jacobs being a premier ruckmen, it would be handy to get gile in. also jacobs is coming back from injuries and those two could really work him over. Lycett to spend a bit more time forward and jk will get an under strength lever.
No.

Giles is not even a witches hat. I get the need for a big experienced body in there but half his ruck duels are against his opponent and the other half are against his own goofy body.

I don't rate Mcinnes one bit but please, I've seen enough of Giles.

OUT: Natanui, Hill
IN: Barrass, Duggan*

Hill maybe a little unlucky given his good year.

* In the hope that Duggan has a good game with East Perth tomorrow.

Thought nelson was good today.
Maybe Hilly can have a rest.

do we need hutchings next week. I see us going head2head with the crows mids, rather than having a tagger. Hutchings is a bit of a liability offensively. I would rather we play nelson or even duggan (depends how he goes for ep) in the middle. Someone like yeo or nelson could do a close check on sloane if he gets off the leash.

Giles is not worth playing.

Spot on. Only change should be Barrass in for Nic. When you lose a player as good as Nic you find a way to adapt with your best available 22 not bring in WAFL level to play a position he'll lose all day. The lesson of 2015 is that collective effort is how you cover for injuries.

A huge positive tonight was I think this was the first game this year we played our smaller 2015 defensive lineup, they were epic down back today with Shep/Wellingham looking the most settled and most dangerous they have been all season. We lost a god but found a lot of form too. Adelaide are a better forward line than Hawks but we should still go in small because Eddie Betts is no different to Rioli, extra tall is just a liability so if we stick with this set up we should be able to find a lot of run that's been missing.

Where it gets interesting is how do we cope in the ruck? I've been a staunch leave Gov where he is person all season but this is a desperate situation, Barrass just has to step into his shoes now. So Gov to the ruck but with a caveat, Lycett to contest all centre square work then head to interchange. Between them there should be enough minutes for both to be on the ground at the same time a fair bit in which case Gov can pop up down forward or plug a hole in defence as required when not following the ball as a small ruckman.

The reality is if the news is devastating on Nic [still need to wait for actual confirmation on this] we can actually cover him despite the negativity of many on here. This isn't the end of our season by a long shot. We have depth in the ruck. [probably the best ruck depth in the comp] If the whole team lifts across the board which they needed to do anyway we can still match it with anyone. Not sure if anyone noticed but Hawks lost their ruckman tonight as well and have been playing all season without Roughhead. Sydney have been playing without their no 1 and 2 rucks for weeks, Bulldogs are.. suffice to say everyone gets injuries including obviously the teams we'll be meeting in September.

Finals are about character and team effort, as to brilliant individual performances well Nic brings that so it sucks but there's still some pretty handy players in this side who will be there next week.

I know we haven't really heard much news, but how long do you reckon Nic Nat might be out for?

I'm just really hoping he'll be there for the finals. I've pretty much conceded Adelaide will win next week, though if we really put up a fight who knows. I think trying to retain percentage, no more injuries and not be trounced would be a win in my book.

I didn't watch closely enough, but wasn't Nelson playing on Cyril? If so, he doesn't deserved to be dropped on that performance, barely saw Cyril all night. If he wasnt, then he's probably on the chopping block.

What do you mean we have rich depth? We have Nairanui and Lycett with no depth after that. The reality is we have a horrendous "depth" ruck in Giles then 2 or 3 makeshift ruckman. That's not depth, let alone the best depth in the league.

Yep, really gave Cyril a bath last night. Helped by his mates up the ground too. Great team defence

The club might pull the trigger on Tim English with our first pick now with Nic having serious injury concerns .
