Worried about Schoey...clearly not fully fit. Reeks of a paniced move to get another tall in the team.

On the other side of the spectrum...Duggo!!! :D

Simmo said that the next question for duggan is 'can he play a full game?'. To me that sounds like he's starting on the park. Tunbridge to sub, as he's versatile enough to play back or forward if someone inevitably goes down.

Butler "injured" and Bennell back in, as predicted. Have to wonder why they didn't just start Bennell in the first place last week FFS.

The Selwood thing isn't getting enough scrutiny. He's either been dropped, which would be hilarious, or he's actually injured the same ankle... again, coming back when he wasn't ready.... again. If that's the case, twice now he's returned under an injury cloud and severely underdone. Great leadership from him, or some outstanding wizardry from the medico's again :thumbsu:

On another note both Lamb and Selwood are in my SC team :(

Think thorne89 is right re: Duggan as sub. Simmo moreorless says as much in the presser - acknowledges running out a full game in the seniors is probably just outside his reach at this point.

Didn't say anything about Paddy kicking the ball. I give him two jobs to do

  • Come off the line Deledio like at the bounce and sniper some Carlton boys, than we will be forced not to pick him :D
  • Make sure his opponent doesn't kick a goal

If he does that I'll give him 10 votes Eagles P.O.T.Y. If he half completes it I'll give him a 7.5
I'll throw in some votes if he takes out Judas

Midfielder with utility to play on the flanks. Inside/ Outside but will probably have a strong outside bias early in his career. Which might be a little bit of problem given his average pace, but he's shown genuine class at WAFL level already so he might adapt to the speed of the game quickly and be useful on congestion rather than struggling on the outside looking for separation he can't necessarily generate easily.
Have you ever been told told that your avatar flashing on and off is really bloody annoying, I always have heaps of time for your comments, but that avatar gives me the shits.

Seriously, am I the only one who remembers the great defensive work Bennell has done in the seniors? Not to mention the times he has spoiled far bigger opponents to cover for the talls?
No your're not, he is an outstanding footballer. I'll be surprised if he's not named in our best Friday night.

Do you think he was dropped? I thought he was ok in the first half but not so much the second.

Selwood? Not sure. Last week he had no offensive effect on the game, and let Bonti run rampant in the second half. Not a good game at all from him.

Hutchings could have done a better job. Eaglemaniac and nobody says a thing!

Perhaps Selwood was playing sore? From reports he did well first half, maybe he played the 2nd half on 1 leg...fair effort if so.

Yeah but that's the point, he looked underdone from the start. In which case, should not have been in the team.

Who cares let's attack and try to win the game, Freo seemed to play just fine without that bloody idiot Crowley.
When Selwood is fit we want him to play attacking football.

We don't have the skill in our midfield to "just attack". Most other teams have more talented starting midfielders than we do. Tagging the oppositions A grader has been something we've done for years, ever since we lost all our own midfield talent in 2007. We don't even have our own A grade mid.

So do we have the worst midfield in the league and the worst medicos?

We are going to get smashed. Put your life savings on Carlton. The defence is a mess, an already undersized defence now has the 2 smallest, softest defenders together again - Bennell + Sheppard. Menzel is set to kick a bag of goals against that defence and if you add a clearly unfit Schofield and the fact that Hurn will cop a heavy fwd tag and will struggle to get touches, it is the worst defence in the league.

We already have the worst midfield in the league. Judd and Gibbs were always going to smash us and now without Selwood to keep Murphy down, Murphy will add to our pain. Shuey will get tagged out of it by Carrazzo so it will be Murphy, Gibbs and Judd up against Priddis, Sheed and Wellingham. We might as well concede now.

Up forward Kennedy will have to battle 3 key defenders all game because there is no one else down there to help out. And why are we dropping Lamb for Tunbridge. Lamb did more in 1 game than Tunbridge has ever done for us.

Schofield for brown - most logical replacement although the fact Schoey looked underdone for east Perth remains a concern
Bennell for butler - makes perfect sense. Just a week late
Duggan for selwood - good to see him get a crack at the big time even if it will be as sub. Selwoods continuing inability to fully recover from his ankle injury is troubling and a black mark on our medical and conditioning staff
Tunbridge for lamb - a bit disappointed in this. Tunbridge wasn't that great in the WAFL and I thought lamb did enough to get another game. Hopefully there just looking after him since they wouldn't have been planning on him coming on in the 1st quarter

Any side with mcginnity in it will look a player short

Simpson can't be accused of not giving the youngsters a go

Well, we're pulling the trigger early to see what he has, are we? Does not bode well that Colledge couldn't get a gig.
Don't think Tunners being included has anything to do with Colledge not being able to get a gig, I'm guessing that he'll be used as a tall, given that Lamb is out and Colledge is really only a mid. Gotta say I'm very surprised with Tunners' inclusion, wouldn't have thought he was in contention unlike Duggan, has been okay though, I guess Read on here that he was gonna be rubbed out after the last match? Also, I don't understand Lamb's omission since he certainly tried very hard against WB without making much of an impact and there's no EP game this weekend, I guess it must be something to do with the rain. Hope that he gets back into the team soon, especially if Tunners doesn't impress enough, we'll need a 2nd tall in Darling's absence (not counting the rucks).

On the other hand, really looking forward to Duggan's debut, hopefully he's not overawed and that we'll be patient with him. In the WAFL, he seems to handle pressure very well and never stops trying to get possesion. I think that being the sub will help him to ease him into the AFL, since some have said that there may have been an issue with him not beng able to run out a game. Hope that Schoey comes through unscathed as well.
