Changes vs Carlton

I reckon our backline functions a lot better with Schoey in the team. He's got a tonne of experience and takes the opposition's best forward, allowing Gov and Tb to be a little more freewheeling. I'd feel more confident taking him into the finals than any of the others who're pressing for a spot, and I think our best back 7 at the moment would be: Hurn, Tb, Gov, Jetta, Duggan, Schoey, Sheppard.

Yep because a lot of our defenders want to attack like Hurn or Jetta or zone like McGovern. You need a 'boring' guy to just defend.

Add to that he is pretty flexible. Can play on DeGoey or Ben Brown.

I agree that we want Schoey in when there's a focal point inside 50 we wanna shut down.

But that's simply not the case this week. Carlton don't have a gun forward that kicks bags, unless Curnow is on-song. Their scoring since Teague has come in has been highly distributed across the team; the closest they've had to a dominate key forward is Casboult, who you'd think Barrass would be fine to deal with.

I want Schoey in to play on Tom Lynch (Richmond variety). But other than that, I doubt we'll see him before finals (pending injuries). There's just not the need for a taller dour stopper otherwise.

Nelson, Watson, Cole, Schoey - depth for this last defensive spot is looking good.

Good call on Schofield I would like him to stay in as well ..

NAh he'll stay in the side and get Casboult this week.
At this stage I think we will be looking to stabilise the team as much as possible and have only forced changes. Every team has a key forward that needs attention. Im fairly sure the coaches will have seen and liked what Schoey brings to the back 6 and will have big plans for him in the finals. I dont see him going out of the team.
Nelson has done an admirable job tagging the past 2 weeks (well week and 1 qtr) but as soon as Hutch and Duggan come in he (and a small forward) goes out of the team for mine. He has been solid in the back line but both Duggan and Schofield bring more.

Jack Redden's name shouldn't appear in this thread. Not even close to being dropped.

Masten on current form won't be dropped, this is the football everyone expected of him and he's doing it well. Have seen him put his body on the line a few times and even take marks going back with the flight, what a time to be alive!

Cripps is good enough to be an automatic inclusion, has a history of being slow to get going off injury but he's just too good and sets such a good example for everyone in that forward line. Can't wait until he's back.

I think Cripps will be in for Petch/Cameron eventually.

This week Hurn in, possibly Schoey or Watson the outs. Duggan may or may not come through the WAFL.

I may be in the minority, but I am not convinced that Duggan, if fit, is an automatic inclusion.

I would be bring him back via the WAFL to build some form and match fitness

100% agree. Looking at our run home & teams still in running for finals, pretty much all of them have a forward matchup that needs close attention.
Even if the talls aren't that good on paper I'd like to keep Schoey for stability as you said & we will make the 3 tall defenders work.

Carlton: Casboult
Adelaide: Jenkins/Walker
Richmond: Lynch/Riewoldt
Hawthorn: Lewis/Gunston
Geelong: Hawkins/Ratugolea
Brisbane: Hipwood
Collingwood: De Goey
GWS: Cameron/Finlayson
Essendon: McKernan/Hooker
Bulldogs: Naughton

Can't see too many changes, particularly after a good win.
Not known for a lot of changes in one week so thinking maybe just Hurn in for Watson/Nelson, neither of whom deserve to be dropped. When it get's hard you would go last in first out I guess.
If Duggo and Hutch fit I wouldn't be surprised to see them have a hit out in the 2's putting further pressure on guy's to perform to try hold their spot.

Oh and what's with all this "Carlton are a chance" crap.
If we don't win by 40+ points we should hang our heads in shame.

It's important to lay the ground work for a solid game-day thread meltdown.

Only two teams you can put down as a certain win at this point, Freo and Gold Coast, every one else has to be respected as far as i'm concerned, in saying that if we cannot win by more than 5 goals it will be disappointing given what we have to play for.

Look it's mainly just the ex-player media personalities who overreact to everything.

If you look at our BFooty board, most of us are just hoping to be competitive against you, Geelong and Tiges...and then pinch one final win against Saints.

Wouldn't be surprised if we get spanked given you are a top 4 team and we are dealing with a massive injury list.

Both statements are true. Top 2, top 4, top 18.

What on earth are you talking about? Schofield is claiming credit for the play that lead to Sheed's winning grand final goal because his attacking run up the ground created the space for Vardy/Ryan/Sheed.

Schofield is our most attacking defender in history.
