Barassment for McGovern is a no brainer - he's basically govlite so our structures can remain unchanged. His WAFL form has also been good so he deserves his spot on merit and we can't go in with schoey as our only true KPD even with Tippett being out injured. Mciness as a make shift defender makes no sense when we have a guy available for that role and who has been groomed for it

Butler, if fit, will likely come straight back in probably for the unlucky hutch unless one of Ellis, hill or selwood who all were sore after Saturday don't get up

If more than one of those three aren't right (or someone else we aren't aware of doesn't) then in order of my preference we bring in:
Nelson
Lucas/colledge
Bennell

The Gov is a big loss but we proved in that last 1/4 that our backline is solid if we stick to structure. Butler in to help keep that structure and Barrass to come in and offer some height.

If Hill is sore and not able to get up this week i would give Newman a go..even though he has not been setting the world on fire in the WAFL he would be a good choice as sub this week.

I have defended Scooter for ages but that game was rubbish by him and i think we should either bring in Lucas or College.

Yeah, I thought Gov was quiet early on, possibly taken out of the play by Collingwood as a deliberate tactic? Anyway, when he went down it seemed like the other boys structured differently to fill the void. Wellingham and Shep doing a lot of it. Whereas if he wasn't injured, maybe they rely on him to do the role?

Sydney players on the senior list above 190cm who did not play last weekend:
Abaina Davis FORWARD - 192cm (played NEAFL on the weekend)

Aliir Aliir BACKMAN - 194cm (played NEAFL on the weekend)
Alex Johnson BACKMAN - 193cm (Unavailable?)
Xavier Richards BACKMAN - 196cm (played NEAFL on the weekend)
Mike Pyke RUCKMAN - 201cm (Unavailable?)

Has any got actual confirmation on how long the Gov is out for? I am hoping its only 3 week or 4 weeks a the most.

If Barrass and Butler come in, then

Sheed, Rosa, Hutchings and Selwood are fighting for two spots in the 21, and the sub role.

Think Sheed will definitely get a game.

Who would they select out of Rosa, Hutchings and Selwood. Or maybe two of them and have Ellis as sub.

They've been playing Rosa as another back.
I wouldn't have thought Rosa + Butler + Ellis in the same team is good balance.
In which case it's out of Hutchings and Selwood.
Selwood played injured on the weekend and was largely ineffective.
Hutchings was good as sub.

Simmo did say that a few boys were injured/sore - including Selwood. SHeed's form has been too good to consider dropping or green vesting.

I don't think we need to make too many changes so if everyone gets up - it will be Barrass and Butler for Gov Rosa/Selwood

No Tippet - Which means one less tall to worry about
No Craig Bird - Quality Mid
No Richards - KPD
No Pyke - Ruck

We have to go head to head with their mids

Kennedy, Hannerbury, Jack, Parker V Masten, Shuey, Gaff, Priddis

Geez Sydney's injuries have been timely to match our own.

If it does end up being NN v Nankervis we should dominate out of the square

Who else can it be atm?
Pyke is injured, Derickx doesn't have the form to be selected, they can't afford to play Reid outside of a key position and playing Towers in the ruck is just ludicrous.

Goodes to take the role of back-up ruckman?

Also: I'm tipping Murray Newman to get upgraded and picked to play

Sydney players above 190cm who did not play last weekend:

Abaina Davis - 192cm (played NEAFL on the weekend)
Tom Derickx - 204cm (played NEAFL on the weekend)
Aliir Aliir - 194cm (played NEAFL on the weekend)
Alex Johnson - 193cm (Unavailable?)
Xavier Richards - 196cm (played NEAFL on the weekend)
Mike Pyke - 201cm (Unavailable?)

PRESUMING THESE OUTS FOR SYDNEY: Richards (susp), Tippett (inj), Bird (inj), B. Jack

PRESUMABLE INS: Laidler (if fit), Pyke (if fit), Heeney, McGlynn/ Daniel Robinson

If fit Jeremy Laidler (190 cm, 89 kg defender) would be a straight return for Ted Richards and Myke Pyke (if fit) for Kurt Tippett, otherwise Sam Naismith if fitness allows or Derickx

Of the listed players

Abe Davis is a player who may travel and would make his debut if so as a taller defender/ forward. An academy pick for them last year he was an emergency for the game when Buddy and Tippett were suspended. Only a kid but 97 kg so he's no lightweight. 25 touches, 9 marks in the NEAFL last weekend. Looking at his form if Richards is suspended is a huge chance i think.

Derickx is really a ruck only option along with Naismith. If they threw him back Darling and Kennedy would have a field day. Quiet in the NEAFL last weekend.

The man with two first names Allir Allir would have the chance to debut in front of family and friends in the West. Played fwd I presume in the NEAFL having kicked a goal, 18 touches and 2 marks.

Alex Johnson won't play although he would be handy for them. Recovering from another knee reco. In early career including under 16 and 18 level Johnson and Darling have been matched up on each other.

X. Richards if the Swans wanted to go for a taller KPD would be definitely in the mix. From your list he is the only one with defensive experience in AFL and long term is arguably there next FB/ CHB.

Pyke was injured last weekend against the Lions so wouldn't have fronted up in the NEAFL.

McGlynn may be an inclusion for the Swans after a while out with injury but will be managed as well. McGlynn got through a NEAFL game last weekend.

Heeney would be a LOCK in. Swans board will be in absolute meltdown if Heeney doesn't get picked this week. Am i right vonn?

Goodes to take the role of back-up ruckman?

That would be excellent.
If Goodes is playing in the ruck who would be Sydney's next tallest player behind Franklin in their forward line?
Isaac Heeney - 184cm
Luke Parker - 184cm
Brandon Jack - 182cm
Lewis Jetta - 181cm
Harry Cunningham - 181cm
Daniel Hannebery - 181cm
Jake Lloyd - 180cm
Tom Mitchell - 180cm
Kieren Jack - 178cm
Ben McGlynn - 172cm

Here are the heights of our backs:
Matt Rosa - 191cm
Elliot Yeo - 190cm
Xavier Ellis - 187cm
Sam Butler - 187cm
Shannon Hurn - 187cm
Brad Sheppard - 186cm
Sharrod Wellingham - 185cm

They don't have a single player at the same height or taller than any of our backmen (excluding Franklin, Goodes and Nankervis).
We may not even have to consider bringing in another tall for McGovern.

God (Heeney to you mortals) has played two full games in the reserves. I imagine he may start and McGlynn may be sub FWIW.
For ruck I wonder if we will go with a Nankervis/Reid split or something. I hate both Towers & Derickahwoeheksnduah with a passion but it'll probably be Towers/Nankervis and Reid as CH-something.

Pyke is touch and go isn't he?

Doubt it very very much. Think we'll go Buddy - Goodes - Reid for forward line if X.Richards gets promoted. Or swap out Reid as a CHB and chuck in the resting ruck, Nankervis or something.

If Richards misses a week and Tippett injured - I don't think you can spare Reid in the ruck TBH

Now you've got me hoping for a Towers v Naitanui centre ruck contest.

This will be unpopular, but I don't think Selwood was that bad today. That being said, Hutchings was really impressive when he came on.

Hope Gov gets up, seems unlikely. It's Barrass time!!!!
Very unpopular. Nearly lost us the game. I thought he was returning to form last week against Adelaide but he was horrible on Saturday. He got bowled over easily by varcoe and then varcoe set up the goal 100 meters on. He then fumbles the ball in front of goal and he missed a sitter as well. His 3rd quarter was a disgrace. 12 possessions and 0 Tackles, cant get much worse than that unless you are mcginnity. The only players that had less possessions were McGovern 11 (subbed out), Kennedy 11 (kicked 3), and Hutchings 7 (sub).

I like selwood but he needs to return to form and get some composure or we should play college or lucas (if dug and butler are injured)

So you'll go
Grundy - X Richards - Nankervis - Franklin - Reid with Goodes resting forward.
We might be forced to play another tall back (like Barrass) however it is such a good forward setup for us:
Grundy v Kennedy
Laidler v Darling
X Richards v resting ruckman
We should be able to exploit that big time if we are dominating the midfield.

Naitanui to leap towers in a single bound

Yep, cost us 2-3 gettable goals and gave Collingwood 1-2 goals with his turnovers.
