Changes vs Collingwood @ MCG

We need a scapegoat when the leaders let the team down for another loss this year don't we!
Experience says the leaders will let us down in the middle, with the forwards getting minimal / poor supply. Then rather than drop an underperforming small Eddy will be the sacrificial lamb, with Ken pointing to his lack of goals as justification. We've done this dance too many times under Hinkley to know that smalls its share/pass the blame, but talls, everything that isn't perfect is their fault. The Butcher Chronicles 2, coming to an MCG near you.

It is a new tactic. It involves Robbie and S Rgay constantly and deliberately missing set shots from 20m directly in front in an effort to lock the ball in the forward line.

Hahaha exactly. Best way to the lock the ball in is to keep missing shots.

Young, Neade and Impey all played their best matches last season against the opposition we play this week and at the same venue.

It'll be Pittard for Polec.

Collingwood now play mainly one tall forward moore and richmond reiwoldt, so it can be all about forward pressure. Similar to our last week forward set up.

May I pose two simple questions?

Question 1. Do we have currently have in our AFL side a forward who can take a mark (contested/uncontested) and can confidently kick for goal from 50 metres out - including anywhere on the 50 metre arc.
Answer: No

Question 2. Do we currently have a player currently in the 2's who can do all of Question 1?
Answer: Yes, his name is Brett Eddy

Memo to Selection Committee:

Please select Eddy for the side to play Collingwood this Saturday. The cheer squad already have a special song when he kicks a six pointer. "We have the best Eddy in the State" sung to the tune of "He's got the whole world in his hand".
Please surprise us!!

I just went to check Brett Eddy's accuracy in the sanfl this year and found this on the sanfl website

Do you think we should let them know about the change of club?

Grundy is pretty good at falling over.

I'm trying to think of what part of your criteria you're going to argue that Charlie Dixon doesn't meet and I honestly have no idea.

And Brett Eddy has been surprisingly inaccurate this year, so I'm not sure how confident I would be with him kicking for goal from 50. Certainly no more than Charlie.

Dixon for clutch goals maybe. He's not alone there. And even though that area could be improved, he's certainly not in the Hoff 'bank a miss and don't even bother watching the kick' category.

Please don't get me wrong about Charlie - I proudly wear his number on my guernsey. Charlie could make the distance from 50 out but would you be confident that the ball would go between the two large uprights. During a game I would not be confident.
I purposely watch the kicking for goal during the prematch warm up. Players who get the yips during the game, namely Charlie, R & S Gray and Westhoff always seem to kick goals 40 out during the warm up, but under game conditions I'm never confident.
I'm always confident when our other main forward, Chad, is lining up 40 to 50 out.
Brett, is the real deal for the Maggies, let's now give him gig with the Power.

And that, that is why he is so frustrating. He does something at least once a game that makes you think, 'this kid could really be a weapon.' Even during his much derided game on Saturday, his handball into space for Chad's goal was fantastic. It was something that was different from all our other handballs in the forward line, which usually go a metre or so to a bloke under the same pressure as the handballer. But then, he goes missing for 90% of the game.

I am Neade supporter. I like what he brings to the side in his tackling but I don't think we can carry him with SGray, Young and Impey. They are all too similar in their weaknesses.

All that said, I am disgusted by the level of vitriol here directed at individual players. Since he was picked in the side, there has been a stream of negativity with Neade as the punchline. It is over the top and extremely boring.
