Expect hawthorn to concede that they'll likely lose the clearances so they will try to pressure our best ball users to force indiscriminate kicks so that the likes of Mitchell, Burgoyne and Birchall can counter punch from half back in the hope they can slingshot the ball into an open forward line for their smalls to expose us with their pace running toward goal

They'll turn it into a slog. 12-14 goals will win it

If im not wronng Simpsons said Masten is ready for round 2?? Nice link player we missed this past weekend

There is a guy arguing how its unfair that the Bulldogs have a higher % because the Eagles had to work harder in a tighter game or something.

Facebook comments are where hope goes to die.
There are so many idiots in this world, but at least here on bigfooty people for the most part actually pay attention to the specifics of Aussie Rules rather than just venting a moronic and unfounded view of the game. That guy on our board reporting on the imbecile at the game who was yelling at Jamie Bennell, calling him Harvey...I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

As people have already posted - Jetta and/or Masten in for one or two unlucky blokes. I agree with some people here in their sentiment that having Nelson's attitude out there on Sunday may be beneficial, so I'd prefer we keep him at the expense of Butts or Ellis (who both provide class and a level head down there, so we shouldn't omit both of them IMO).

Hawthorn is fielding a lot of average players atm.
Langford, O'Rourke, Litherland, Sicily, Pittonet and Schoenmakers are all suspect atm.
And they'll now need to replace Hodge.
See the other thread for my thoughts regarding the forward/back comparison between the teams.
Unless we are off our game a shoot out should favour us.

Litherland was serviceable today and Langford had a cracker of a game. Their 3rd qtr was testament to their scoring potential. They have a level that many teams have still yet to match. I still think this is the last team you want to challenge in front of goal.

On 6PR Simpson specifically mentioned hawthorns 3rd quarter and how damaging they are at their best. Said we were preparing for that

We have never really had the pace in the back line. Butler, Ellis, Shep et al just can not go with the likes of Poppy, Bruest and Rioli when the forward fifty is open. Its super important we play the game in our forward 50 or we will get carved up with that 'kick over the top'

The problem is that next gear that the Hawks have only be maintained for short periods now.

I think they just ran out of steam but the ability and class is still there. They will adapt and will probably be there at the end of the year. I really expect them to come out next week and put it to us and if we are not ready we will be embarrassed.

I expect them to come out hard as well especially early. The real question is how long can they maintain it?

Well thats the real question. Are we good enough to adapt and counter punch? Our leaders really need to have a good game. I think the next 2 rounds are important and will define our season.

Funny how when masten's in the team people on the board want him out but when we have injuries and etc, he is one of the players that we want asap.

Bennell and Butler stay in, Masten to have a week in the WAFL, isn't normally great first up.

I meant that I got the impression Jetta may still not play this weekend at all. Agree with you that if he's right he might as well play against the Hawks
I also got the impression that Jetta should be right to play this weekend but that he may only get a Guernsey playing for East Perth instead to ease him back due to limited time playing NAB. Simpson said it would depend upon how all the other players pulled up after the game yesterday.

Yeah Nelsom to get dropped. Was a liability against Brisbane with skill errors. Still not there yet. Needs to work on decision making. In a big game he will get found out. Play Nelson against poor side for experience but not against the Hawks.

Jetta in Nelson out

Naitanui/Lycett v Ceglar/Pittonet.
The hawks may as well enrol in the Stephan Martin school of ruck. (ie, how to give in)
Some may say it was a clever tactic but it reminded me of Martina Hingis serving under arm in a grand slam final. Poo.

If Jetta is fit, then give the old Butler a week off.

I'd give Nelson first crack at Rioli, can only learn from the experience, plus he has a little bit of mongrel in him. No one really try's to rough Cyril up. Can only try and see what happens.

out ; Ellis ,Butler or Bennell
In ; Jetta
I think Bennell will probably be the unlucky one to miss even though I do like that he`s responded to the competition for spots by running some PB`s over the preseason and is working hard fwd to provide a scoring option .
The calls for Hutchy are a little premature and he will need to find good form in the WAFL .

News to me.

Guess you didn't see him stuff it up the few times he had the ball. Which is kicking it to no mans land. Needs to lower his vision and actually pin point his passes. Guess you didn't notice as we were playing Brisbane and were in front by a fair margin for the most part.

I don't think he was as bad as you are saying.

Also kicking it high up into the air to me a lot of the time is a turn over. Hate that when there are options about. It's under 18 type stuff and doesn't really help for the most part. Stats don't pick that up and that is why Scott Selwood is such a dud player.
