Guess you didn't see him stuff it up the few times he had the ball. Which is kicking it to no mans land. Needs to lower his vision and actually pin point his passes. Guess you didn't notice as we were playing Brisbane and were in front by a fair margin for the most part.

I thought it wasn't a great game for Nelson but more in terms of his work rate than anything else. He also got the ball once or twice in positions where he could have had a dash but passed off which was a little disappointing. He will need to take the game on a bit more as he develops.

His mongrel is top notch. You can't coach that into a player.

Every time there was a bit of push and shove, Nelson and Duggan were right there in the oppositions faces. I loved it! They should stay in for this alone, how long have we bemoaned the fact our players show little passion? These two have it in spades.

This game will be won in the midfield. I'd even bring Masten in for Bennell if he was right to go, but he performed poorly in the Prelim against Norf after being rushed back from injury so I don't think he should be considered for the seniors.

Nelson and Cole are going to be a fantastic combination to replace Butler and Ellis in the side.

I thought Bennell's first half was good. I thought his second he was a bit fumbly for his role. He was given a few Joe the gooses which he took full advantage of in the first but in the second he started to second grab them and not finish them.
To me he played the kind of game that he could against weak opposition, and may not be able to be replicated against tougher opposition.

I don't think he best 22 and I think we now have enough small forwards in Lecras, Cripps, Hill & potentially Jetta replacing him.

So I would go with Jetta for Bennell.
I love Nelson's commitment to defence & tackling and think perhaps there is a spot for him from here on perhaps kicked out for only Wellingham's return. Depending on Butler's form.

Spot on, Cole really looks good down back in his first few games against men. Fingers crossed he can stay fit and get a game or two in the ones this year. The club is doing well picking the right kids with late draft picks.

Hutchings has to play, even if we only pick him for team balance in certain games than Hawthorn is one of those games. Was a bit of a rabbit in the headlights when we played them in the GF but I think if we give him a defined role he will make good against certain teams with a leaning to contested midfielders. If Mitchell or Lewis are getting off the leash than Hutch shifts onto one and just clamps down. Sacrifice winning your own ball for the greater good of the team.

If fit I'm 50/50 currently on Jetta. Definitely needs to come under consideration but at the same time I'd like to see him have a solid run at East Perth as well against Souths.

I'm treading on eggshells a bit with the outs. Did't watch enough of last nights game to make an accurate assessment but for balance and the need for some experience in one of Ellis or Butler I'll say Ellis and Duggan to make way. Duggan travelling emergency

Really? Considering he was one of the few blokes that actually did anything half decent in the GF id be interested to hear why the rest of the team who shat themselves on GF day deserve a game currently..

FWIW i dont think anyone who hasnt shown good form in the WAFL or pr-season should come straight back into the side, that includes Masten, but you cant blame the GF for not adding Hutch who was better than most on the day.

I think of them over the tops was where he started the movement from the HBF then ran the length of the field to be on the end of it. Yes it technically was over the top but it wasn't a cheapie.

A fair few goals (from both teams) were like that. Yes it looks easy to recieve the handball but the running to get into space is something a lot of people miss.

Yeah thats right one of them started with him at half back but overall I found him fumbly and that his game won't translate against better opposition.

I just saw your second para. My argument is that you don't get that space against better opposition and you aren't quite so confident to run off of them to do so hence what I mean by not translating.

I watched the EP game on the tv as I couldn't get to the ground but I thought Hutch was fine - 23 disposals, 8 tackles and easily one of the BOG imo. I don't think him playing or not will be about him needing another run, I think it will be more whether we feel we need an extra inside mid in our team. Gaff started and played a lot in the middle on Sunday (vs on a wing), and I think he had a pretty good game but I thought he had very little impact in the centre square. Yeo and Ellis were in there quite a bit as well and thought the same of them.

I think Priddis, Shuey, Redden and Hutch is possibly our best inside group (very defensively slanted but plenty of extraction capability to get the ball out to our outside mids). The possible downside is can Hutch play anywhere other than inside effectively? His lack of versatility seems a big consideration in him playing as well as Priddis (Shuey and Redden can both play inside or outside). Cripps could be a good pinch hitting option in the middle (and I remember him in there a few times on the w/e) but think he is is still a work in progress for that role (one worth pursuing though).

I think we need to take advantage of Nic's dominance in the ruck, so adding Hutch might help that (more to negate the Hawk's mids sharking Nic's taps). Gaff, Yeo and Jetta I still don't rate as inside mids yet - but all three are exceptional on the outside (plus Masten if/when he is fit). And we've got some good outside pinch hitters in Hill and LeCras.

Keep Hutch inside and send Shuey out? I love Shuey but I don't like it when I see a big pack and his body at the bottom of it. That's not where he does his best work.

Yeah thats what I am thinking. He just won't get that space for one reason or another i.e. having to be more accountable against a better opponent or better opponents not letting him link up the length of the field.

He was one of many in the same boat, not singling Hutch out in any way, shape or form. I know its only one instance from the game but that Rioli run down tackle in the centre square when Hutch just had zero awareness of what was around him still sticks in my brain from GF Day, hence my comment. I know he didn't have much support from his team mates around him telling him that Cyril was bearing down but in a GF more than any other game you really need to step it up a notch and keep your wits about you.

His added contested play along with the inclusion of Jack Redden will be worth a lot against Hawthorn this week but. I get the feeling they will be brutal against us, Clarko will have given them a bake for only playing one quarter against Geelong.

Without Shiels and Hill, Geelong found a chink in the Hawks armour but and that was speed on the inside and outside which Geelong had. If West Coast want to expose them in that way to than Jetta will need to play and Bennell will need to keep the 2 way running game up.

That will be the difference for Bennell for sure. When the heat is turned up will he be able to contribute the same way and keep that 2 way running game going. Similar story to Josh Hill

Would love to see JD getting alot more physical, especially if he's going to get a run in the mid, gotta start using his size and bulk more.
